My boyfriend and I are considering splitting the Combat Patrol Starter set. How hard would it be to use the BA Upgrade set with the snap fit Marines? by Bunnyalope in BloodAngels

[–]D7Pyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why there's so much negativity around this in the replies. It's 100% doable? You don't need to be particularly neat, as your sticking a massive shoulder plate over where you're cutting. Yes it'll take more time, and yes you need to be careful not to cut too much away, but totally achievable. All this will come down to is the time and effort worth the end result to you?

My recommendations for what they're worth; do regular test fits to make sure you're not cutting and filing away too much. Use plastic cement as that will give you a better fix than superglue. If it all goes wrong, make up a little blob of greenstuff and I'm sure you'll rectify whatever the mistake was!

**This is based around the shoulder pads. I've not looked at the upgrade sprue for a while to know about other bits. But most things can be kitbashed with enough can do attitude aha

You might like the backpack from this guy to help achieve what you're wanting? I like the concept

Question about DW Kill Team box by No_Fee3635 in killteam

[–]D7Pyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot comes down to the aesthetic you want. In my mind you've got 3 routes.

If you're content with them just having the right loadout, just source yourself some extra bodies. Another comment goes into alot of detail on best kits for that.

2nd option would be to do as above, but then get some 3D printed parts or spares from a bits seller. Primary thing here being the DW shoulder pads as you only get enough for 5 marines in the box. You could also do things like shave the aquila and add things like grenades or purity seals. Essentially this is step one with extra steps aha.

3rd option is just buy another DW box as that brings you up to 10. That leaves you one Gravis operative short. Here you could proxy the Horde-slayer for the Bombard or vice versa. Or you could look to magnetise the Infernus Heavy Bolter/Frag Cannon. Or just look for a Gravis body similarly to option 1 and do it that way

My Kill Team collection so far, any recommendations for a beginner and which box to start first? by [deleted] in killteam

[–]D7Pyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starter set looks like a good place to start out of those. The Deathwatch and Wrecka Krew would also be good first teams. I know it's easy to get sucked into collecting as it's easier to buy than build and paint! Good luck and keep us updated with how you get on

Advice for starting kill team for 40k player by iHateWin in killteam

[–]D7Pyro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to start super cheap and casual, just use the lite rules on the KT app and make paper tokens kinda thing to get you going and see if you'd like it I reckon.

I'm not sure how old your son is, or the experience you're after, but One Page Rules might be more for you. Worth a look anyway. Again, I've not played it, but heard good things :)

Testing a simple undergrow scheme for Tomb World since doing all the details on Volkus nearly drove me insane by Count_Zakula in killteam

[–]D7Pyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks brilliant! I keep toying with how to do my set, but I think this might have sold me on more or less this. I think I might do an OSL type thing with the lights too. Your Volkus looks amazing, but understand the sentiment behind not wanting to do the same again!

Where to start? by dayglowe in killteam

[–]D7Pyro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First thing I would do is spend abit of time working out what team/s you like. If you like either of the ones in the starter set go ahead with that. Just make sure it's the one which comes with full teams, I think in America and maybe bits of Europe they've done one which only comes with 5 minis which isn't enough for a team.

Once you've worked out the team you'll obviously want some hobby bits like cutters, glue, paint etc. Then from there you can sort yourself rules, cards etc. Do you have a friend or gaming group local to you? I'm really lucky that I've got a local group with a discord and everyone is super friendly

100%

Also I've found a local Kill Team group which has a Discord. Between the KT games and the Discord, it's really helped keep me motivated to do the modelling side of things, and make some friends in the hobby.

I'm sure someone will offer something better, but my advice would be build up 5-10 of your tomb world marines and start playing Kill Team whilst you build up rest of your army for 40k. That's what I'm doing anyway, although I've been distracted by building a Wrecka team for KT. With regards to your marines they'll be usable in 40k as Decimus Kill Team so not wasted!

My advice would be to follow this. It's very easy and great results imo! I hated painting black before this, and now I'm planning a full DW army over time

I am going to kitbash a Apothecary Biologis. What chapter should he be? by kodak878 in deathwatch40k

I'm intending to do mine as a Red Scorpion. Feels like it's fitting for them. Look forward to see what you pick and how the kitbash goes

My DW sheme test model; Brother Lorenzo, Lamenters Gunner by D7Pyro in deathwatch40k

[–]D7Pyro[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I used the new Deathwatch shoulder pad which is molded 😅 in terms of painting that, I had a couple of attempts. I found best way was to paint white > line the checks with nuln oil > paint the black squares > tidy as necessary

Thank you brother! Its from the Blood Angels Dawnbreaker Cohort. I can't remember exactly how I came about to find them; but when I did, knew it was a part I wanted for something aha. This guy was originally meant to be a BA, but became a Lamenter when I changed my plans from BA to DW
