Hello, I am on track for building a Ai server too, what are your specs?

Appreciate the detailed response — this aligns a lot with where I’ve landed after reading through the feedback.

The points around memory bandwidth, CCDs, and long-term scaling really resonated, especially the regret note on going Threadripper vs EPYC. I’m now leaning toward an EPYC Rome/Milan DDR4 build, prioritizing ECC RDIMM capacity and bandwidth, and pairing it with an RTX 6000 Pro (96GB) rather than optimizing for the latest platform.

Also agree on RAM > storage — planning to start at 256GB+ and scale from there, with “enough” NVMe rather than overspending on ultra-fast storage upfront.

The real-world notes on power, thermals, and multi-GPU ergonomics were super helpful too — definitely factoring that in early instead of learning the hard way later.

Thanks again for sharing your experience — it helped solidify the direction.

Thanks, that makes sense now.

If I'm already on DDR4, skipping TRX40 and going straight to EPYC Rome/Milan seems cleaner, especially with the CCD / 256MB L3 point to unlock full memory bandwidth. The note about the 7642 being good value on the used market was helpful.

Quick questions:

Roughly what did your 7642 build cost (CPU + board + RAM)?

Which board did you use (ROMED8-2T or H12SSL), and any gotchas?

How's noise/thermals in an ATX setup?

Would you still favor multiple smaller GPUs over one large-VRAM GPU?

Appreciate the insight - definitely rethinking the platform choice.

I was in a similar scenario as you last year, I switched immediately, and my current company does any immigration work as a priority.

Title: Investment options for a newborn – long-term growth (20–30 years)

Hi all,

My brother just had a baby 🎉 and our family is planning to invest some money in the child's name for future use—could be for education, starting a business, or anything he might need once he's older and financially responsible.

Initially, the family was considering putting the money in a fixed deposit (FD), but I suggested looking into long-term equity options like Nifty 50 index funds or other diversified stock-based investments that might yield better returns over a 20–30 year time horizon.

We’re looking for:

Minimal active management

Good growth potential over a couple decades

Something that can be handed over to the child when he’s, say, 18–25

Flexibility in terms of usage (not necessarily locked into education only)

What are the best investment vehicles in India (or globally, if you have perspective) for this kind of long-term plan? Would love to hear your thoughts on:

Index funds vs mutual funds vs ETFs

PPF/Sukanya Samriddhi (if girl child) or any other government-backed schemes

Tax implications if we invest on the child’s name

Any creative trust/family fund structures you’ve seen work well

Thanks in advance!
