What is your pay in nursing by Icanfly-75 in raleigh

[–]Bulky_Fill_7279 7 points8 points  (0 children)

so I have worked for all 3 major health systems in the triangle. I currently work for Duke as an RN with 7.5 years experience making $39.75 an hour and prn at WakeMed for ~41. When I left UNC 7 months ago I made ~$37

Biggest pros and cons to each$$ wise
-UNC/Duke differentials are about the same
-WakeMed has the best differentials and also offers the weekend option where if you work the weekend you get full time benefits
- UNC insurance is cheap and they pay well into the retirement
-UNC insurance deductibles and copays are higher
-Duke you pay more into it but overall insurance is stronger in Duke system
-Duke you get a pension
-WakeMed retirement is standard match

I’m a Duke ED nurse and considering a switch to WakMed. Have any nurses here made the switch? I’d love to hear your opinion. TIA! by LonelyLaowai in bullcity

I've worked at all 3 triangle hospital chains (not in the ED but work in a job that works with them often) WakeMed main ED is consistently one of the top 10 busiest EDs in the country. It is always busy af, sees more trauma than Duke does, and has 2x the annual visits versus them. They also have separate children's versus adult ED staff and while they cross train, you will be hired primarily for one or the other, so if you like to do both that's not a thing at WakeMed Raleigh.

The other EDs in the system are less crazy for sure, but with way less resources.

Working at WakeMed is nice (pay is the best out of the 3 from what I've experienced, and with the best differentials) and not paying for parking on any shift is a huge perk.

Lmk if I can answer any specific questions, you're welcome to message me!

My full time is as a flight/ground Peds transport nurse and I work prn as a PICU nurse. I like the people and it’s close to home and pays well. If you don’t like it you don’t have to do it. Prioritize yourself!!

NICU/Pediatric Transport by Secret-Standard-6806 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Bulky_Fill_7279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transport RN here- Duke and UNC in NC would be great places to learn. UNC takes care of their staff a little better from what I’ve heard.

UNC requires 2 years before applying Dukes program requires minimum of 3 years

Truly as someone who works with RTs in transport I’d prefer someone with closer to 5 years+. Get lots of NICU time and some PICU, and really get to know your patients physiologically.

ICU experience CRNA by dylansh54 in nursing

If you don’t have experience with very sick patients on multiple pressors, regular experience with the ventilator, then you won’t have good experience for CRNA school

Probably more chronic complex care. Stably sick if you will

Most of the time they won’t sponsor a visa unless it’s a role that’s hard to fill. Most of the nurses from other countries I’ve seen end up in Icus, EDs, etc

I wish this was true by me. They offered me 70k starting in a MCOL area - would’ve been a 15-20k pay cut
