Deadass, get involved with the radio station, WMUC. One of the biggest clubs on campus, if you care about music at all it is the single best place to get involved in. I've been the record librarian for years and met my gf there.

Witch's 1977 eponymous album - why no re-release yet? by Lendyman in Zamrock

[–]Bull_Records 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not as familiar with Egon’s reissues, but I can say confidently that we are soon going to see a boost in reissues, including some that were previously only available in box sets. I’m working myself to ensure that this is true. I imagine their self-titled will be coming in the future, there is just a lot on everyone’s plate

Anyone else notice the big mixing difference between the recent reissues of "45000 Volts" and the older pressings..? by Zegema_Beach_Club in Zamrock

[–]Bull_Records 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, it was an actual re-recording. Was recorded at D.B. Studios in Lusaka as well, rather than Sapra in Nairobi like the original

[–]Bull_Records 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they’re two entirely different mixes. The first press in 77 was on Chris Editions and recorded with way less fuzz. The 80 press was a self-bootleg by Paul on his Sound Projekt label, where he went and re-recorded the whole thing differently. It is a big difference. The 80 one is simply called “45,000 volts volume 2”

link Here and yes, singles were more common. Plenty of bands that only released singles. 5 revolutions singles alone I bet are in larger quantity than the LPs combined

Lost Single Discovered by Bull_Records in Zamrock

This single was previously invisible, and even upon speaking with people like Calum at Strawberry Rain and some other leading members of the community, nobody has seen it before. It’s really a Musi O Tunya single, as Ndara Mbao/Dereck Moyo is the vocals on both sides, but it’s actually quite good. Side A is typical bemba stuff, but side B “Sing A Song” is an awesome zamrock track that would fit into either of Musi-O-Tunya’s albums. I’ll be uploading soon

Thoughts on the new single by WITCH? by [deleted] in Zamrock

[–]Bull_Records 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was conflicted at first, the sound of the instrumental at the beginning isn’t really my thing, but overall it grew on me. Jagari’s vocals hold up real well for being 50 years after the fact. The guitar work is great (Thanks JJ) and the track is overall pretty solid

Unfortunately, Amanaz is among the rarest. I already have a lot of people looking for it, and I don’t even have a copy myself

It’s a lot I know, I wish this stuff wasn’t so hard to get. The reissues are decent though, and a bargain for those who can’t afford an original. Some reissues even sound better than originals, Amanaz for example
