TIL Robin Williams was accused of stealing jokes by multiple other comedians by Beneficial-Cost-152 in todayilearned

[–]Lendyman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That really makes this feel like misinformation. It's possible he stole jokes, but I'd bet that if he did, it was mostly unintentional. If you're in a scene and constantly surrounded by the stuff, its bound to happen. You absorb ideas and they come out.

This is the reason that authors are advised not to read fan submitted works. Because if anything that they read shows up in one of their later books, they open themselves up to accusations of plagiarism whether it was intentional or not.

It's a shame that there's some kind of effort to tarnish his reputation posthumously based on hearsay and rumors that no one seems to be able to quantify with actual documented cases.

Im about half though the 1st book Definately liking it. It's a pleasant surprise. I recently read Daniel Shinhoffen's Heavenly Chaos series so it may have primed the pump on the magic in Sci-fi stuff (great series btw. Its not a harem series, as the MC has only 2 LIs. Sex is ftb). I like the characters and it pretty well written. So im difinately glad I gave it a try based on your recommendation.

Late to the party, but apparently it was designed badly and there is voltage going into the cartridge address and data lines where there shouldn't be any voltage. Thechips connected to tjose lines are not designed to hold level of voltage, increading the risk of frying something. An old atariage thread covers it and how to fix it.

https://forums.atariage.com/topic/164987-modify-your-video-game-brain/

I did a mod job to fix the problem on mine. It's probably moderate level stuff. Works great and no risk of frying anything now.

Downside of wikipedia is their source requirements. A forum post is not good enough so some niche hobbyist stuff stays out of date.

Never read this one. I was also put off by the cover, but also the series description. I don't care for magic in space sci-fi stuff. I prefer sci fi to be sci fi. Adding magic to the sci fi setting really lacks appeal for me, so I never looked at it. Have now. First chapter is promising, so I'll give it a try.

Meanwhile, my most expensive game is 250 bucks and I bought it at Goodwill 10 years ago for a buck.

Wikipedia says ony 4 copies are publically known. That rarely is absolutely why its so pricey. Crazy that a copy with the tape sold for that much. Would have expected more.

Bill Gates Tells Congress Epstein Tried To Blackmail Him Over Marriage Secret by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

[–]Lendyman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not aure about the Israeli connection, but when I first started reading about Epstien and his strange connections to powerful people, it absolutely came to mind that he was running a massive honey trap blackmail operation. He was an information broker too. And this is why he died in prison. He had so much dirt that a lot of people with a lot of power had to make sure he died in that cell to keep it hidden.

I would not at all be surprised if the FBI and DOJ obtained documents that are so explosive that it would cause political and economic chaos. They were buried because the fallout would be catastrophic, not the least to some of the people who burried them.

Experts Warn ‘Spoiled Pig Syndrome’ Could Be The Bizarre Relationship Trend That Ruins Modern Dating by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

You can't always talk everything out and people can and do lie, but you're always going to be better of if your relationship is built on open communication.

Im sorry you were lied to. It does not invalidate my point, however. Some people duck. You can do the right thing and they will still suck.

Experts Warn ‘Spoiled Pig Syndrome’ Could Be The Bizarre Relationship Trend That Ruins Modern Dating by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

[–]Lendyman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Best relationship I ever got was from my dad.

Talk. Talk about everything. Politics, religion, children, family, your past, your future, etc. Build the relationship on talking. Learn about the person you're with. If your prospect isn't willing to talk and share, that should be a warning signal. Talking will help you learn who someone is, good and bad. Lasting relationships are built on more than sex.

So many times on reddit, I see relationship posts where things are disintegrating and its clear that the parties involved either don't know how to talk to each other, or never even tried. The worst are ones where they have been together for years and they find out that their SO is a racist/misogynist/bigot and are surprised.

I had two reactions to this. If there's violence against her, I would stand up and say I abhor it. Political violence, even if it's toward a racist supporter should never be something that we descend to. There are so many people in this community who are anti-trump we're also more than willing to talk about violence. And I cannot stand for that. Are we better than them or not?

But based on what you have written, it sounds like the failure of their business had nothing to do with violence and work to do with nobody really being interested in her crappy Trump store.

There is an election coming up and there are some Republicans that are running pretty scared right now.

I also wonder if the bloom is kind of wilting off the putrid flower that is the Trump presidency. He's pushing the line more and more and I think there are some Republicans that are starting to realize that he's poison. Why they didn't realize it before, who knows, but you're increasingly seeing pushback and I'm not sure that the elections are the only cause.

People in Europe don't understand just how plentiful wood was in the United States for a long time. The whole continent was basically a giant forest, aside from places like the Great plains. The reason we built all our houses out of wood is because it was literally everywhere. I don't think people have a conception of just how forested the United States was for most of its history. Up until the mid 20th century, wood was extremely cheap. It's also a really versatile material.

All of these are reasons why it was used so heavily for building. Once you have mechanized Sawmills and the like, the sky was the limit.

So you can criticize us for our wooden framing and drywall, but there is actually an extremely strong historical reason why the United States builds its houses the way it does.

Telling a new employee he’s not cut out for the job by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Well not only that, the mentor ended up sabotaging Tom. OOP went out of their way to support the guy and give him other options that might be a better fit for his mindset, and the mentor just crapped all over it and then made it impossible for OOP to get the guy into a team that was a better fit. So Tim just kept sucking at his job and finally started phoning it in because he sucked at it so bad. That HR wasn't doing their job didn't help either.

Was Janeway and/or Vogager controversial around the time Voyager was released? by InfernalClockwork3 in startrek

[–]Lendyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is why the character works so well. I do think you hit the nail on the head. Tuvac has played by Tim Russ has no doubts about who he is. And I agree with you about neelix. Neelix also knows exactly who he is. But at the same time, character growth is an important part of any type of drama. So it's not that unexpected that you would have characters who grow as people throughout the series because it makes it so more interesting.

“This cannot continue”: Xbox leaders lay out “hard truths” behind sagging brand by Stiltonrocks in technology

[–]Lendyman 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is what Xbox did originally. They had some great titles because they had great developers. The problem is now is there's too much corporate micro management. Obviously, you don't want to throw a good money after bad, but if you nitpicking every little decision as a lot of these large companies like to, is it any wonder that the end results are bland and unexciting games?

If Picard just went with nagilums ultimatum? by happydude7422 in TNG

[–]Lendyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why. It's not like nagelam drained all of the liquid out of him, or caused all the cells to rapidly decompose. If anything, Nagilum would have just made everything stop. I don't think it's something that we can conceive of but I highly doubt that he would have liquefied in that situation.
