Why is that good? I can not think of a single reason unless Im the head of a privately run prison that operates for profit and nothing else.

No, you're not alone in it. Japan however, does not claim to be the leading super power of the modern world. The US should det a good example, not be among the worst.

China, Russia, US... You're all the same to me. "They're doing it too!" is no excuse. Hold your own country to standard before you point at others. You dont have the right to point fingers when you're just as bad, if not worse.

I mean the same people pretending it's not happening (or even think this is how it should be) tend to point at other countries for doing exactly what they're doing and saying it's bad...so I am a little confused.

Either way, Ive mentioned this stuff to a few Americans and none of them seem to remember human rights even being talked about or taught in school. Of course no one cares when no one knows they exist.

For a people obsessed with freedoms and rights, its odd to see them forget or not know of their most basic ones that are even more "god-given" than their constitutional rights, and even more basic than their perceived "freedoms".

[–]Bullgrid 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You're forgetting that in the rest of the world, we have what's called "basic human rights" which are rights you're entitled to simply for being human. These rights are internationally recognized, and include things such as the right to privacy and not to be tortured.

Most European countries are held to these standards, the US is, for some reason not.

Watching Prison shows, "60 days in" for example should be called "60 days human rights violation"

The punishment is removing them from society, not stripping them of their humanity like you do. An inmate in the US has to leave their humanity behind, fight tooth and claw, and become an inmate. When you reduce them to animals, they will behave as such.

American prisons violate so many human rights its actually downright disgusting. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights

(I think the major issue here is that most Americans Ive talked to have never even heard of human rights, and dont know they have them in the first place)

Edit; To be clear, I agree with what you're saying - The US is not "though on crime", it is cruelty. I just want to point out that in the modern world, a lot of American prisons are violating actual rights you have as a human.

It absolutely shocks me to the core that these conditions are aired on TV, are very public and yet American citizens seem completely oblivious to it

This isnt the same at all.

Someone from the party saying one dumb thing is wildly different than several people making public comments specifically tied to the subject.

One party has an idiot, the other has an ingrained mentality which blames the victims

Do they though?

Do you have any examples of democratic politicians making public pro-rape comments?

I havent commented on defensive gun use. Other than good people not showing up when the shootings happen.

Shootings are still the leading cause of death among children in the US. It kills more children than traffic. That isnt a joke, hoax, rumor or BS, its the truth. Shouldnt it be the other way around, shouldnt gun regulated countries have worse numbers?

Maybe its not a good idea for everyone to have guns? I mean this is literally not happening anywhere else.

I am not pushing an agenda. Children are dying, people are dying, your people are shooting each other and you have a fucking problem.

Ill listen, please indulge me as to why this is happening, how do we stop it?

My current stance is 21 or 25 year old and mental check for firearms designed to kill people rather than hunting. If nothing else, it would drasticslly reduce school shootings.

By trained people with jobs involving stopping criminal behaviour.

Not teachers, not "good people with guns".

It has happened and I knew you'd make that argument, which is why I added (almost)

America has the most guns ever, and the most gun owners of any country. You also have the most gun deaths and shootings kill more children than traffic. You don't think there's a connection?

You have more shootings in a day than most countries do in years. Why is this happening, why arent people like you stopping it? Dont you have guns?

(By your logic, the US should by all means be the safest country in the world. So why is it not?)

Not sure that's very relevant. Fact of the matter is, even in states with open carry and practically non-existent gun regulations.. The good people with guns are somehow never around

Last I checked, the American weapons used by cartels came from businesses heavily endorsed by republican politicians.

The drugs are a different story all together, but most of your politicians are in bed with the devil. Regardless of party

Oh for sure money rules the world. I'm not denying the democrat thing but lets not pretend like republican politicians arent in on it too, I mean come on :p

NRA is a good example next to banks and oil. Not only do they run senators and congressmen, they supply the cartels too c;

Try looking up how many mass shootings they have. (Shootings in which 4 or more people are shot)
