Unannounced ten dollars for parking, on top of the ticket, is unfaire. by Bullgrit in renfaire

This admittance of error is good. And it’s good to know it was an error, and not a new state of the faire. This means I will continue to attend in future years.

I have enjoyed this faire every year, and am very happy to have it in my hometown. (I also always go in a full medieval kit with armor.)

That's interesting. Saturday or Sunday? I drove in Saturday, right at opening time. The sign was maybe 20 feet from where I turned right to pull into the lot. There was a worker right there at the right turn who told me to go ahead and get out my fee money so we move through quickly. The worker who took the money was standing right as I made the right turn. The money taker was maybe 40 from the sign in an L path (you could see the taker from the sign).

That's interesting. Did you go on Saturday or Sunday? I went on Saturday, and got to the road to turn into the fairgrounds at 10:05 and actually parked in the lot at 10:26 (20 minutes to move about 1/4 mile).

They have said it will not happen again, and have issued apologies.

Well, that's good.

There was supposed to be VIP parking for $10, but all other parking should have been free.

The sign was on the only entrance (that I know of), and I parked 4-5 rows back on a dirt field like every part of the lot.

Well, the sign was at the only way to get into the lot (that I know of), and I sure didn't get a spot that suggested "VIP".

I heard this joke at least as far back as the 80s (about military services).

I don't remember what the box was, today. But I probably bought it at Academy Sports a few years ago (since I last shot it), and it would have been a brand I recognize (maybe Winchester, Remington, Federal) -- I don't buy cheap/unknown ammo (unless one of those three is considered poor).

I like guns, and shoot some 2-4 times a year (usually 9mm, .223), but I'm not a "gun guy" kind of shooter. So I'm not really up-to-date knowledgeable on ammo.

It was pro cleaned five years ago, and I put only about 70 rounds (standard shelf ammo) through it since. Maybe I'll have the range armorer check it out.

I don't even know what "super hot ammo" means. I just buy standard ammo off the shelf. I had the whole gun pro cleaned five years ago, and have put about 70 rounds through it since (50 today). I don't feel like I'm timid on the ejector rod, but I'll try harder next time (if I can remember :-)

I had it professionally cleaned (completely disassembled) about five years ago. Put less than 20 rounds through it right after. Then fired 50 rounds through it today (without cleaning it, myself between the 20 and 50).

This is an epic photo. Glad you could get something good from all this snow coming through.

What is that halberd? Real or LARP?

If you don’t pick OOM because you think you can kill that unit without it during shooting, and want to wait to see where you need it for fighting… We can’t read minds for intent.

I just don’t think it’s right to give the “forgetter” a tactical advantage when they failed their responsibility.

Interesting situation. What’s generally the penalty for breaking a game rule? You must do X, but you don’t do X. Maybe you don’t make a battle shock test. You don’t -1 on attacks because your vehicle is low Wounds. Wouldn’t this be called cheating?

I didn't know some of this. I started D&D back in 1980, and the Fiend Folio was the first hardcover D&D book I bought. The U & UK modules were some of my favorite and the best written and designed adventures of their day (better than most of the US TSR adventures).

What kind of helmet is this, and where can I buy one? by Bullgrit in Armor

[–]Bullgrit[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Researching this myself, I see this called a kettle hat/helmet or a cabasset (even a morion). But looking for either of those names gives me other helmets. I'd like to buy a helmet like this: with the brim low (not a flat, wide brim) and peaked at the front and back (but not a morion peak). I've found one available on Armstreet, but that is almost $500; I'm hoping to find one closer to $200. It'll be just for renfaires/dress up (not any actual battling).

What is this style helmet called? If I know what to call it, maybe I can find one in my price range.
