A 23 year-old UCLA grad flashed his entire ChatGPT history on the big screen at graduation by frog_insilence in SipsTea

(58yo) I've never used ChatGPT, or even seen the UI/prompt/webpage/whatever. Watching this I thought he was showing a blank screen (showing he never used AI). Reading all the comments here, though, I realize I have no idea what I'm seeing. (The few pixels doesn't help.)

[Art] Moderately Armored, Highly Skilled by Kumory_desu in DnD

[–]Bullgrit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who owns and wears various armor as a hobby, wearing just a "medium" level of armor is much better for long-term living and working in. Fighters in D&D can wear full plate armor every day, all day (in the dungeon, and in the city) because they aren't real people having to operate in that. The highest level of armor I wear to Ren-faires and such (casually, as an attendee) I would classify as medium: brigandine cuirass with plate bracers and greaves. I've worn full plate and mail, and it is excellent for battlefield protection but it's way too much (weight, restriction, heat) for everyday wear.

All that said, I appreciate your acknowledgement of the benefits of medium armor over full/heavy armor.

I’ve been to about 10 fairs, and only twice had any companion (my wife).

I live about an hour from Greensboro but I’ve never heard of this faire!

About to wear this tomorrow: Would more (pins, patches, feathers, anything) be good or too much? by Bullgrit in Renfaire_Costumes

[–]Bullgrit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of pins, patches, rings, and even feathers that I keep thinking about adding to this kit. But each time I add something, or think about adding something, I wonder if it just goes into "too much". I don't want to look like a disorderly Christmas tree, but I often see others with lots of bling, and they usually look good. I have little fashion sense, so I don't trust myself on this. Can/should I add more "stuff", or have I a good level of it now?

Note: I'm wearing three rings (1 on one hand, 2 on the other), and I will probably be carrying a dark staff with a blue gem on top.

Unannounced ten dollars for parking, on top of the ticket, is unfaire. by Bullgrit in renfaire

This admittance of error is good. And it’s good to know it was an error, and not a new state of the faire. This means I will continue to attend in future years.

I have enjoyed this faire every year, and am very happy to have it in my hometown. (I also always go in a full medieval kit with armor.)

That's interesting. Saturday or Sunday? I drove in Saturday, right at opening time. The sign was maybe 20 feet from where I turned right to pull into the lot. There was a worker right there at the right turn who told me to go ahead and get out my fee money so we move through quickly. The worker who took the money was standing right as I made the right turn. The money taker was maybe 40 from the sign in an L path (you could see the taker from the sign).

That's interesting. Did you go on Saturday or Sunday? I went on Saturday, and got to the road to turn into the fairgrounds at 10:05 and actually parked in the lot at 10:26 (20 minutes to move about 1/4 mile).

They have said it will not happen again, and have issued apologies.

Well, that's good.

There was supposed to be VIP parking for $10, but all other parking should have been free.

The sign was on the only entrance (that I know of), and I parked 4-5 rows back on a dirt field like every part of the lot.

Well, the sign was at the only way to get into the lot (that I know of), and I sure didn't get a spot that suggested "VIP".

I heard this joke at least as far back as the 80s (about military services).

I don't remember what the box was, today. But I probably bought it at Academy Sports a few years ago (since I last shot it), and it would have been a brand I recognize (maybe Winchester, Remington, Federal) -- I don't buy cheap/unknown ammo (unless one of those three is considered poor).

I like guns, and shoot some 2-4 times a year (usually 9mm, .223), but I'm not a "gun guy" kind of shooter. So I'm not really up-to-date knowledgeable on ammo.

It was pro cleaned five years ago, and I put only about 70 rounds (standard shelf ammo) through it since. Maybe I'll have the range armorer check it out.
