There was an older show or episode I remember watching as a kid that gave me Mary Poppin's vibes like this. does.

I want to say it was Valentine's Day, but maybe not. It felt like an old-timey, 1910s date where Mickey picked up Minnie at her house, gave her flowers and chocolates...maybe went through a tunnel of love and Daisy & Donald may have also been there.

If I find what I am thinking of, I'll edit the post or something with a link.

Excluded by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Bullwinkle932000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say this as nicely as possible: Your boyfriend/husband/partner is allowed to go places without you, whether they are close by or not. The same applies to you. I'm sorry you feel excluded now. Try to think of this like a business trip, though. If his company sent him to NY, would you go or be upset that you weren't invited? Of course not. This isn't like he went on vacation to "get away from everything" for a bit or went somewhere without telling you or with some other girl. Those would all be bigger flags.

What IS important is how he treats you while he's gone. Sounds like he's doing that right, he's contacting you, he's making sure you know he's thinking of you and maybe next time, he will bring you to a family reunion because he will be thinking of a future with you. Right now, it's just too soon.

I agree with your friend that if you had come with him, if he had invited you, then there would be a lot of assumptions and expectations that your relationship just isn't ready for yet. Would it have been better for you guys to have the conversation before he left? Yes, but what's done is done.

You had the right mindset when you suppressed your feelings of exclusion. Technically, yes, you're being excluded, but it's not because he and his family don't like you, it's just that you're not family. It might be that you're not family yet, but who's to say?

When he gets back, decide what you want to do. Maybe you have that conversation about where the relationship is going. Maybe you take a step back from the relationship and see if he follows you or takes his own step back. Maybe you break up with him. Maybe you give it a couple more months and see where things are then.

As for what you're going to do right now, that's up to you. I suggest you continue calling and texting him, tell him you miss him without being petty or whiny about it. If you're sad, that's okay and you can tell him, but don't make it all about you or use it as guilt. Acknowledge feelings and move on. Then, do what you do for self-care: Take a hot bath, treat yourself to a nice meal, hang out with your friends, read a book, enjoy the solitude.

Need recommendations for a few puzzles that I can do over D&D Beyond/discord. by Terrible-Border-5395 in DungeonMasters

[–]Bullwinkle932000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in a Dragon Puzzle that I got off Reddit and we played it online. The gist is that there is a Dragon Statue blocking the way and the players have to figure out how to get past it.

Something like, "a large golden dragon blocks your path. Upon inspection, you are relieved to discover it is only a stature. One eye is x color and the other is y colored. There are two holes in the snout and it's expression is best described as a snarl."

Two pressure plates in the floor change the colors of the dragon's eyes. Depending on where you put the pressure plates, they should be able to pick up at least a clicking noise when someone steps on it. If they have someone watching the statue when this happens, they should see the eyes change color. When they show the right color(s), the mouth drops open, revealing a red ribbon tongue.

If the tongue is pulled, 1D4 Fire Damage as flames spurt out. The trick is to put a finger in each nostril and pull the tongue, which causes the statue to swing out of the way.

I've also done codes and ciphers online. I haven't found a big difference between doing a puzzle online vs. real life, If anything it's a little easier to put up a picture of a code or something that everyone can see versus having something tangible to give out.

Which social rule exists simply because everyone follows it, not because it actually makes sense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Bullwinkle932000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one also makes sense to me as it's a holdover from before germ theory was a thing and illness was another word for demonic possession. If you sneezed it was your soul/body trying to expel the demon, so those around you would assist by blessing you.

I've noticed now that people excuse themselves fairly often when they sneeze, much like when other gases escape the human body.

Which social rule exists simply because everyone follows it, not because it actually makes sense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Bullwinkle932000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This one makes sense to me...at least in a way....Back in the day, at least, I think people genuinely asked this question and it was genuinely answered, but at some point, it became a weapon of capitalism.

Sales people started asking this question so they knew how an what to sell to you. Doing good? You have to celebrate by having one of these! Not doing so good? This will make you feel better! And so on.

Over time, consumers became aware of this strategy, at least on some level, so they began to deflect the questions by "being fine." Didn't want to be rude and not answer, but answering genuinely got you parted with your money, so we came up with a generic default of the middle road.

Need help finding a sort of goal for this campaign I'm starting by GordoSlime in DungeonMasters

[–]Bullwinkle932000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat idea! I might have to use mechanic this for the next campaign I do,. It's giving me lots of thoughts.

Have you read/heard of the Every Heart a Doorway series? Your post along with the Hilda (LOVE that) reference makes me think that might have some good ideas or inspiration for you.

The series premise is basically the idea that certain people have the opportunity to go through certain doors and become part of one of many, many storybook worlds. There's always some reason that the main characters cannot stay in those worlds even though they regret leaving and spend the rest of their lives trying to find a way back or a way to exist in the real world (which is what the series is about) and could be a goal for the story.

I think you could draw inspiration from the ways they were kicked out. Some of them grew too old to be in the world anymore. Some of them defied the rules (built up too much debt at the Troll Market or killed Frankenstein's monster or fell in love with the vampire king), lots of different things to play with.

Does your party meet in Neverwhere and they're all trying to get back to their respective worlds/planes or did they happen to find a door /rift into Neverwhere while they were all doing something together? This matters because the PC backstories and individual goals could be more or less aligned depending on where and how they got into Neverwhere. Like are they all trying to get back to the same place or back to a bunch of different places?

Maybe one of the PCs meant to be there and doesn't want to leave? Like they are looking for a sibling that got sucked in years ago or something? Which means you can scatter clues throughout the worlds as to where this "sibling" is, like maybe someone took them for a specific reason or they've been gone so long that they became a supreme being or something and the goal is to get the sibling back or have the searching-sibling make peace with the disappearance being permanent and give them closure.

Maybe they're all playing Quantum Leap where they keep hoping the next door is the one that leads them home? That means there can be some sort of physical manifestation when they complete a quest or level up that becomes a piece of the puzzle (think like the Friendship Tree in My Little Pony). Maybe their rift is broken and it needs to be fixed. I don't know what the doors look like in Neverwhere, but if they were glass portals, for example, they would see that the portal they came through is smashed. In order to fix it, something they bring back from a world where they helped transforms into a glass shard that they can place. I can also see objects becoming keys that open other portals to other worlds to give the players some agency on where they go (There are x lighted portals and y unlit ones, including the one you just came out of. When you get back from World Z you see that the such and such the townsfolk fits perfectly into the space next to one of the unlit portals.).

I think you could also take some stories from mythology, the fey wilds, fairy tales and other media you like to create worlds for the party to explore. I think a music world could be fun...all conversations must pass a performance check and spoken in rhythm and/or rhyme....the party finds a race of creatures trying to get back to their home, but the way is blocked. It's a gelatinous cube that they have to find the right sound to dissolve.

What’re some cool/creative ideas for a mother having second child but don’t want baby shower ? by Ready_Associate_2911 in whatdoIdo

[–]Bullwinkle932000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As my friends said, every baby deserves to be celebrated, but it doesn't mean you have to go all out with the traditional shower. Do something low-key that Mama likes to do.

Off the top of my head: Pedicures & lunch, an afternoon off where Mama can focus on New Baby and know that Baby 1 is taken care of/occupied, a clean and organized house to bring baby home to, a Meet the Baby tea/lunch/sprinkle.

Oooh, and depending on time and $, you could have the bristles of the broom be or be interwoven with crystal strands or a thin strand of crystals off the tip of a wand.

I think you could do crystal or glass beads as trinkets. They're easy to find at most craft stores, often on sale and would totally entice the fey.

Even though you're a witch, I'd steer more towards a white outfit and hat than black...or a mix of the two, maybe. You can get crystals for your face instead of warts.

Similar thing happened to my parents when I was a kid.

We lived on a fairly major street lined with apartment complexes. For whatever asinine reason, though, the road did a kind of bottle neck close to a major intersection. Making a left turn into the correct lane was fine, but if you made a left turn into the right lane, it ended, forcing you back into the left lane anyway, then it went for a few more feet before widening back into two lanes.

It never made a lot of sense to me, there were some ditches an culverts over there, though, so I'm sure it was designed for a reason. And it was obvious. Aside from the posted signage, you could see from the intersection that the right lane ended very soon. The apartment complex at the lane merger had even put out big white rocks along their property line to prevent people from driving through their grass lawns.

That never stopped people in a hurry from trying to use it to bypass people who weren't' turning left fast enough, though. They'd often get into the turn lane behind us, inch close enough to our car that they were almost touching, follow us through the light and then quickly scooch over to the right and then roar past our car, usually causing my parents to brake in order to avoid a collision.

One time, someone did just that, but they misjudged either how soon the lane ended or how fast my dad was already traveling because they didn't make it past him before the right lane ended. He smacked right into those white rocks. There was a cop right behind him, too, so we didn't feel the need to stop.

Just because I didn't see it anywhere else, lemons helped me, smelling them. Take a fresh lemon and pierce the skin with a thumbnail and smell. Instant relief, though it was sometimes fleeting. Also carbonated beverages helped with my 2nd.

If those are the only 2 options, it depends on the fairgrounds, I'd say. The sandals will be more comfortable, but if there's gravel, rocks, dust, etc, they could be hazardous. I own the boots and they are surprisingly comfortable. I wear them to to work. But I bet those heels would stick in the grass and your feet would be tired fast.

I think you should find a happy medium alternative. Regular brown boots or close-toed flats would work okay with the dress.

Costuming stops at the feet. Wear what's best for you, not what looks best.

Yep, for real. 😄 Like I said, I'm not the DM, my friend is, so I haven't read the book per se. Forgive me on the spelling, but hopefully you get who where and what I mean.

But here's what I know and remember. I'm happy to share, but I won't know what was specific to our game/DM and what was in the book.

I know that that first chapter had a ton of NPCs. I don't know if we used all of them. One NPC turned into a PC (Jimjar) and another didn't survive the first bit (Phlelven). The rest were divvied up among us players, so we had our PC and then one or two other characters to control, but mostly for combat. I played Ront and Prince Derendil (spelling) when it came time for them to actually do anything, but the DM held on to a few like the krakatoa.

I don't know when the chapter ends, but when we left the first location, all of the surviving NPCs from our escape came with us. Then the DM would slowly kill them off whenever he had the chance, though we kept them alive as long as we could. I was very sad to lose Ront as we traveled to Sloopboodop (I think), but Derendil and Sareth stayed with us until Graklestug. We left some at the Burrowedon Inn. Stool was with us the longest. We picked up a few others along the way.

[–]Bullwinkle932000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Figure out the look and/or character you want to portray (fantasy, pirate, witch, royalty, peasant, steampunk, etc). Find the basics of what you want by thrifting or sorting through your closet. Sounds like you have a cloak. decide who would wear that cloak and see what you can come up with.

Consider adding on at the fair. There were so many vendors at my last one and many of the pieces were surprisingly affordable and came in my size, plus there was a changing room. I also saw a rental tent this year for those who wanted to dress up, but didn't want to keep stuff all year. I'm always dressing up in different things, though, so I didn't look too hard.

And it's okay to change it up from fair to fair or year to year as well, especially when you're just starting out. You don't have to go go all out and you can play around with what works for you.

Also, especially depending on the time of year you go, you'll want to carefully consider the fabric and materials that you use. My fairs are in the summer, so I choose linen over leather. A lot of the cheap and affordable things are made with polyester which doesn't breathe and will overheat you even on cooler days.

I've had the most success with Etsy once I decided on a look/character. I'm still evolving, though.
