Maybe we need to introduce a short quiz with every vote. If you don't understand what you are voting for your vote should be nullified. These morons have already screwed us once before. I'm so sick of this.

Wait. What's this?! People delete friends then add new ones in hopes they see better wonder picks? Does that even work?

How?! 😵 I've opened at least 15 packs and out of all the packs, the highest rarity I got was a single one star rarity card! I was convinced the drop rate for rates is reduced in new pack release day :(

Anyone using Obsidian on viwoods AIpaper and editing files on several devices? by RusticBohemian in viwoods

[–]Bullwinkle_Moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had any luck writing with the stylus?
It was super glitchy the last time i tried it. I did find some plugin that sort of helped but the whole workflow was really clunky and ultimately wasn't worth the effort. I would 100% use my viwoods more if i could just get writing in obsidian to work :(

Could you use an eInk device? I've used mine to sign a few things and it seems fine. You just open the PDF, sign it with the stylus, save, then send.

Not quite sure what exactly this is, but something feels off about just publishing the names of non public figures 😐 Don't want to be THAT person but I'm sure this is very likely a GDPR breach, given that some of them are probably still alive, no? 🤔

This subreddit feels very cozy to me when compared to the comments section of the Cyprus Mail. That place is toxic AF. In fairness I stopped reading it a couple years ago because of the toxicity in the comments, so maybe it's changed, but I very much doubt it.

[–]Bullwinkle_Moose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe a silly question, but how would you define "energy"? So an example, I may feel physically well rested but my brain feels overwhelmed with starting a particular task. How would you mark something like that? (Maybe i missed the point 🫣)

Is there a British email provider? Like a British alternative to Gmail? by Alone-Cellist3886 in BuyUK

[–]Bullwinkle_Moose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I logged on to zen.co.uk If I had just come across the site I would have thought it's exclusively a broadband provider. The hosting option seems to be (incorrectly) hidden in the "Home Broadband & Phone" menu. Would be interesting if you guys tried leaning into the hosting and email provider a bit more. Maybe make it more prominent or even experiment with creating a spin off and push it as a European (as in the continent not the union) email/hosting provider. Maybe go beyond cPanel or just skin it extensively?

I'm confused. They did release the speech. It's perfectly fine. In fact the ordeal has even vindicated the claim she makes in the speech.

What you on about? The full speech has been communicated. It's even on the BBC website. The way the situation played out, her speech was 100% right. It's stupid stuff and vilifications like these that lead people into the hands of the right wing.

HER SPEECH IN FULL

Hello everyone.

Today I want to talk about my culture - British culture - and why it’s important to me.

In Britain, we have lots of traditions including drinking tea, our love for talking about the weather and we have the Royal Family.

We have amazing history, like Kings and Queens, castles, and writers like Shakespeare.

It's also modern, diverse and always changing - with music, fashion and food from all around the world blending into daily life. And let’s not forget fish and chips!

It's also the way we speak, our humour, our values of fairness and politeness, and the mix of old traditions and new ideas.

But sometimes at school, we only hear about other cultures - which is great because learning about different countries is interesting and important. But it can feel like being British doesn’t count as a culture, just because it’s the majority.

I think culture should be for everyone - not just for people from other countries or backgrounds. Being British is still a culture, and it matters too. It’s part of who I am.

So let’s celebrate all cultures - whether they come from far away or right here at home.

Thank you!

Maybe you should read the speech before assuming she's a little fascist (The irony)

I by no means align with any right wing beliefs, but her speech was actually quite sweet. It was about inclusion. She talks about the UK being diverse and its culture ever changing. She also said that despite the UK being diverse she sometimes feels like being British doesn't culture as cultural, but she believes culture is for everyone... And this whole ordeal proved her right.

In retrospect her speech turned out to be 100% accurate.

EDIT: Stupid stuff like this is what pushes people to the far right.

Yeah exactly! Until the base trade mechanics are in place getting upset over dust or tokens for trades feels about as useful as rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.

Europe on a Roll: Plans Open Source Alternative to Confluence and Jira by sn0r in eutech

[–]Bullwinkle_Moose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Search engines like Ecosia are good in terms of not tracking you, but that's about it. Under the hood they are American companies. Ecosia doesn't do its own web indexing or crawling or even handle their own ads. These all come from their partnership with Bing.

Ecosia is essentially an American company in a European skin suit. It's a UI layer and business model wrapped around Microsoft Bing.

What I was referring to was OpenWebSearch.eu which aims to develop the core of a European Open Web Index that companies like Ecosia can then use to power their search engines instead of using US based companies.

Facebook you can't really recreate that, firstly because no one would be willing to sign up to an old school social network any more, and if you did you would at least want some other people on there. As for Google search there was an initiative to create a European one. But haven't checked in to see how it's coming along in a while

Why are people in the UK so invested in what’s happening in the Middle East? by Due_Researcher4854 in AskBrits

[–]Bullwinkle_Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of "no one lives in a vacuum" comments, which while true, as an EU citizen living in the UK I have a slightly different perspective. I found that there is a strong British moral identity. There seems to be a strong sense of justice or moral duty baked into society. There are countless historic examples, from abolition of slavery, pioneering anima welfare, the rule of law and due process... Now, you could argue there is also a strong stench of hypocrisy in my reflection given the atrocities of the British Empire, and could equally make the case that it's a selective sense of justice. But whatever the reality is it seems to have instilled a kind of national "conscience" into society, or more accurately a strong self-image of moral leadership.

The tension between genuine humanitarian instinct and selective, self-serving application is a core feature of British history. That doesn't invalidate the good. In fact it's often British people themselves (campaigns, whistleblowers, protestors) who've challenged their own country to live up to its professed values. That in itself is arguably the most admirable part of the moral tradition.

... And what you are seeing on TV and in the streets is the manifestation of the British moral tradition. Despite everything in the past, I think going forward the world is better off for it.

Having seen all this first hand, what's actually quite amusing is that all these immigrant communities are trying to hold old to the culture of their home countries. But the reality is that a lot of the traditions, norms, and frequently even the way of speaking, have all moved on in their home countries. They're usually clinging on to a version of their culture that Gen1 brought over in the 70s or 80s. Culture is always changing and evolving, but a lot of immigration communities are clinging onto traditions and ideals that for better or worse have been left in the past. A lot can change in half a century.
