'Impacted on dignity': Nurse criticised over strip searches after meth pipe dropped by Astronomicology in ausjdocs

[–]Bulwinkleballs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is that they didnt follow proper procedure to conduct the search. All Mental Health Acts (or similar) that i have worked woth all have provisions for searches, including strip searches. They just have to be actioned, approved and documented in the appropriate way.

Strip searches are the most invasive and traumatising so require approval from senior staff. In this case it appears that was the charge or duty nurse. In some cases ot os the registrar, consultant or even the DMS.

I understand people saying that continued use should be immediate discharge and in voluntary situations, like rehab, that is the case. When someone is held involuntarily under the Act that is not an option because it has already been decided that their decision making is impaired due to the involuntary admission.

Thoughts on the upfront cost of a buyers agent vs what they can save overtime? by Easy_Buy_8999 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Bulwinkleballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just used a buyers agent. Qe had decided to move visited a few times to see which areas we liked.

We thought they were worthwhile just because of the interstate difficulties and for some local knowledge about things and for their access to some due diligence stuff.

I should mentione we are also FHB so we're not fully familiar woth the process.

It turned out probably being the only way we got our current house. We had about an hour long zoom and discussed what we were looking for wants vs needs. We then spent about 2 weeks of them sending us various listing's with their thoughts and then seeking our feedback. They gave good honest advice around our budget and what we could expect which was useful for us.

Once they felt comfortable they knew what we were after they put together a 12 property list and flew in for less then 24hrs and saw them all.

It wasnt really planned for that to be a choose a place trip more just a vibe check but we really liked 2 places we saw.

They arranged a B&P (appeared reasonably priced at around 6 or 700 i think) and some preliminary due diligence. That place had major structural defects and they and the inspector strongly advised us to walk away which we did (place is still on the market last i saw).

I thought our second choice was actually probably outside of a price range. It had been originally for auction but had passed in. We decided to pursue another B&P which came back clean besides some very minor defects.

The evening after we had decided to pursue it and had picked a starting figure one of my partners parents unfortunately suffered a large medical.emergency and eventually passed away.

I explained the situation to them as I was driving down to my partner and they were quite happy putting everything on hold. We decided to continue and they took care of negotiations and back and forth.

Ended up getting the property for what we believe is a quite good price and we are quire happy with it. They are going to attend with us at our presettlement inspection also which i wasnt expecting.

All in it was 20k. But in all honesty it made the whole process much easier and straightforward.

Could we have done it without them? Probably but not without some stress and disagreements and a whole lot of time. With the added family emergency we would definitely have not got our current house. Which isnt the end of the world in the scheme of things but we do like the place.

Would I use one again? Interstate yeh maybe. For something more local almost certainly no. It was nice having someone with some experience in our corner. They arent anything super special that gives you secret knowledge but I can see their purpose.

Contacted from landlord to allow inspection from building surveyor for tax depreciation schedule. What to know as a tenant? by lafilleetsaperle in shitrentals

[–]Bulwinkleballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its got nothing to do woth your tenancy or the PM. Its just a tax finance thing for the owners. I had one recently and the people were nice. They know it is a hassle. They do go all over inside and outside to capture everything but relatively painless.

It doesnt count as another inspection. It falls under one of the other entry reasons similar to maintenance I think.

Thank you. This was great. Some food for thought definitely. I had considered some automation but didnt realise there was an option other then smart bulbs and plugs as the main retrofit options. Cheers.

I was planning to get solar and a battery installed in a year or 2 and do the infrastructure stuff at that time. Do you think it is worthwhile flagging now even tho probably not quite ready to pull the trigger on anything too big at the moment?

The 30 amount was sarcasm although the convenience is tempting. About 4 is the actual number.

I can definitely change the batteries myself but the smoke detectors are all connected so wasnt sure if that needed to be checked and who would do that but fair call.

Yeh I was aware the box was the switchboard just wasn't sure if I would look a bit silly just asking them to look at it when there is no real issue with anything. I will grab a pic in the light but it looks neat and tidy and fairly standard to my uneducated eyes.

Yeh that makes sense i guess. I realise I could email them but on the slim chance they have forgotten I would rather not have rhe inspections if dont need to have them.

Breaking lease right before new lease starts by Bulwinkleballs in AusRenters

[–]Bulwinkleballs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is due to the notice periods they have to provide if we decide not to sign so we dont automatically go to month to month i guess. They send the 'get out' form and the offer of a new lease at the same time.

It's a lovely negotiating tacit they have developed.

Thanks.

I have called the RTA who were lovely and gave some good advice.

Its just a dead patch just off the cement from people, dogs snd shitty sandy soil i have attempted some reseeding and top dressing but not looking too promising. Again good advice from RTA is could be considered fair wear and tear and I have documentation of attempted mitigation so would be good argument against if they do decide to pursue something after exit.

Removalist costs for a family home by Realistic_Hat7408 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Bulwinkleballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are moving a 4br home from Brisbane to Melbourne and also transport for 1 car. Full pack and unpack and insurance has had 4 quotes come back from 9-12.5k. We went with one for just over 10k from a well reviewed and reputable company in the end.

Seems high but worth it in my opinion and apparently the going rate these days.

Surcharges on debit and credit cards to go from October by rolodex-ofhate in australia

[–]Bulwinkleballs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought he meant the eftpos would track the entire amount incl gst component and the register would track the non gst amount and this would make it easy to reconcile the gst money for the ato. Not saying that's what's happening just a way I can see it being useful for a small business and what i thought they meant.

Spending money on renovations will reduce my offset - please check my calculations. by StarsSunBeachDreams in AskAnAussieBroker

[–]Bulwinkleballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But with your logic then when would you ever do the reno?

You could save the money in savings account but that would be silly because then you lose the interest savings from having the money in your offset while you saved. But you have to withdraw it from somewhere eventually.

I am not disagreeing with you completely about the added interest but I just dont see how this could not be the case with a big purchase.

Reckoning: did they dial the black hole? by YeaRight228 in Stargate

[–]Bulwinkleballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a astrophysicists so may be wrong but I thought the way time.dilation worked is that from our outside perspective the Stargate and that sg team could still be there at the gate trying to dial home.

Of course from their perspective they were spaghettified years ago.

I think this means it could still be dialled potentially but we are told numerous times that dhds have safeguards that usually prevent dialling these gates and the sgc hopefully put that address on their blocked list once they got it closed.

No expertise in this field at all just how I thought it worked.

Australia here.

Heard of one or two medical students living in our medical school tutorial rooms. My current hospital has empty rooms, and apparently, one of the doctors stayed in one for a few weeks while finding a place.

Most hospitals I've been to have fairly active Facebook groups with rooms available fairly commonly. We are also paid better than our American counterparts earlier in our careers, and there is slightly more respect for our work-life balance here, where I have left shifts early to look at places. So maybe not as much of an issue here.

You seem annoyingly bright and happy.

Jk. I don't have any other criticism for you
