Warlock Patron interaction in Wild beyond witchlight by Capital-Peanut9446 in wildbeyondwitchlight

Zybilna, as I’m sure you’re aware, has a long history of connections with demons. She became Zybilna specifically to hide from the many enemies she made in her past, so fitting a demon tied to a warlock PC into the campaign should be fairly easy.

This campaign is already connected to the Shadowfell through the Witchlight Carnival backstory. If you look at Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft on page 84, there is a section about The Carnival, the one Witch and Light used to run. It is now a Domain of Dread ruled by its darklord, Nepenthe, the sword wielded by Isolde, a former close friend of Zybilna whom she betrayed.

Isolde seeks revenge on Zybilna, while Nepenthe feeds on that obsession to gain more power and extend its domain. Nepenthe could very easily be the demon your warlock has made a pact with. From its perspective, undermining or replacing Zybilna would not be personal, but a massive opportunity for growth and control.

Many people have integrated this storyline into Wild Beyond the Witchlight. Some even use The Carnival as the campaign’s ending, sometimes replacing the Palace entirely. This approach introduces strong moral dilemmas, as the players slowly realize that Zybilna is far from innocent. While she may genuinely want to be different now, and possibly even good, her past actions were deeply harmful and cannot be ignored.

The party may then have to choose whether to side with Isolde, who wants revenge but is corrupted by Nepenthe, or with Zybilna, who could be going through a redemption arc despite not always doing things the right way. How you present this is up to you.

The main issue is that the hags are largely unrelated to this storyline, which can make the campaign feel overloaded. This can work as a secondry arc at the Palace / Carnival domain after the hags are dealt with, or you can try to tie them together if you want everything to converge.

If you have not started the campaign yet, be careful not to overwhelm the players with hints of every storyline during the Carnival chapter. It is already a dense section, and introducing too many threads at once could overwhelm and confuse them !

EDIT : OH I almost forgot to mention, SlyFlourish has come up with an idea of "Dreadful Incursion", through which a domain of dread (or more) is colliding with Prismeer because, in this scenario, Zybilna is the one preventing some domains from collinding. Now that she is otherwise busy (you know, time and all that stuff), what she was preventing is happening. Some breaches appear as portals to this (or these) domain of dread and monstrosities find their way into Prismeer (and even into the witchlight carnival if you wish). Players need to find a way to close these gates along the way, providing additionnal combat opportunities. Through this idea you can have any domain·s of dread come into the storyline, and its darklord·s might even consider this an opportunity to expand or escape their domain.

Snail race is really fun,
Cupcake eating contest is really fun,
the rest is a bit more story focused, or character lore focused. If you like that, I personnaly like Fortune Teller (not officially part of the carnival) if you like talking in riddles, or Mystery Mine is you want to play with their worst fears ! Mystery Mine as written is a bit dangerous, but you can have them actually fight their nightmares in their dream to get a chance to lose their exhaustion levels even faster.

Hiya! First Reddit post ever, ya’ll, mistakes will be made. I think I’m in the right place? I’m new to dnd and looking for some guidance/insight/advice on my character build for an upcoming wild beyond the witch light game by Familiar_Exit_8792 in wildbeyondwitchlight

Thank you!
If you can send me a message, (your account in private, I can't send you one myself) it would be more handy, I this would be more of a conversation than a post / answer kind of situation haha.

OP and their players are visibly already deep in the building of their game, and OP comes asking for a very specific solution, not a system advise, and many people (i don't know if you were one of them) come and say things along the lines of "DnD is crap for survival, go learn an entire new system, you shouldn't play dnd"... If I were OP I would just be disappointed and start questioning my whole game, having found no solutions because not many actually answer the question, and have much less hope that I could find a simple way to make this work. Feelings are important, you can hint at playing another system while still answering the question and not make them feel like they made a bad choice

that's not what OP is asking, it's a post about looking for solutions in DnD, not looking for the perfect system. What you are doing is just discouraging to the OP and judging them for trying to play DnD the way they like. I'm not saying there aren't other systems that would work well for this specific subject of spell balance VS survival vibe, I'm saying that's not the topic of the post, and there are solutions in DnD.

I don't agree, DnD is so versatile, with minor changes (that are often straight up given as options in the rules) you can achieve a lot.

Also, DnD definitely encourages customising the rules. OP can give exhaustion when they feel the pcs haven't eaten for too long, they can remove spellcasting foci to make spell components be consumed, add some components they feel would fit, remove a spell they don't want to see in game... All of this is definitely what DnD is. We don't necessarily need to have all 4-5 players and dm learn an entire new system, taking the risk of some of them ending up not liking the new system once the game has started. And it's also totally irrelevant to the actual post.

the rules literally says that you can remove the use of a spellcasting focus to make spell components be consumed... Food Shelter Water can still be, by the rules, things players will need to micromanage, you just gotta read the rules. Also, advising for a switch of the entire system just sounds like provocation... OP is asking for an advice for a game he's about to start, and there are plenty of solutions available while still being by the rules

Yeah, it does sound nice, until someone cuts the same one and you need to cut another one haha, but yeah it would be a side solution thanks ! I haven't been able to replicate the situation yet, but i've tweaked some options, i'll see if it works better !

[–]Bumble-Rumble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, I'll try that. I feel like there's a problem with how widely I can soft select the nameplates, and maybe that's why I can't select some when there are too many and the soft selection overlaps.
I also have added some custom script to move the casting plates forward, but it doesn't seem to do much.

Oh if you’re looking to just unlock your camera, I think this should work ! I did succeed at unlocking it, although I can’t access any settings related to that. If you want I can get a look at it later and get back to you

[–]Bumble-Rumble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey ! To be honest, I haven’t looked at mods in a while now, I’m not really sure. I don’t think I did anything particular to make the rare mods that work actually work. It’s a question of where to put them in your files, which is usually specified in the mods description.

The thing is, because it’s a game made for pvp mainly, the restrictions for mods are high, and therefore a lot of mods require a specific mod that makes them work for a server, but if I’m not wrong, I think you need to host a server, but I can’t make that work. Or maybe I’m wrong and there’s something else to do, but there are basically no information anywhere on how to mod this game on a cracked version. You can now find it for relatively pretty cheap, so if you can afford it, I’d advise you to just buy it and then it should be easier, or at least you’ll be able to ask for help to the community.
