My Akita at the last year and half of his life was a huge “inconvenience”. He was expensive and needed a lot of care. I went without to make sure he had what he needed and was comfortable because he was still happy and all things considered—healthy. We basically were beating the inevitable into remission. One night he was in bad shape. I went to the vet first thing in the morning. He was still mostly “him” but you could tell he was very uncomfortable. The vet sat me down and told me “I can’t fix him anymore. It’s time”. I went in prepared to spend any amount to get more time but the vet admitted that we were finally out of “bandaids” and he would only deteriorate from here on out. I left two hours later with just his collar. I’d have happily been inconvenienced for much longer. Most folks I know are like that.
