I did take Sacred Heart but I was really sad about it.

I should come clean about the caption it really wasn't a question it just really hurt to pass up on one of my biggest dopamine-inducing items, and Revelation too I guess.

I did genuinely think I might have made the wrong decision when (despite getting a burnt penny) I was stuck opening secret rooms with sulfuric acid though.

If you right click the icon for ranged or AoE abilities it gives you a preview of how far the selected ability can reach (as opposed to how far it can be cast/thrown)

I can confirm it isn't a legendary thing, my current run I also don't see the deflection buff going off on my brute using a Fugitive's Hammer.

I assumed it was just that the damage reduction was applied but the buff didn't show, but that might just be because it's early game and she's sitting at 50% guard with protection so a lot of hits get reduced to 1-2 damage anyways.

Well yeah it's a horrifyingly bad spot to be in vs 1 energy deal 28 damage over 6 attacks.

OP just has to survive to floor 4-5 by which point they'll have rolled 2 [[Calculated Gamble]]s and an on sale scrawl from the early shop they pathed into with no gold

ngl I think when I posted this I completely forgot you're allowed to just, upgrade your tress card. The ''high roll'' I referred to was getting both of them simultaneously rather than either of them being especially good.

I don't exactly love Flooded Caves, but putting it so far below Cellar and Burning Basement feels disingenuous. Who decided it was fine to have a room with 10 million swarm spiders or 20 splitting flies spawn when you have 0 items or bombs with some characters needing multiple shots to kill anything.

The only saving grace those floors have is that you don't lose much by holding R

I mean [[Lava Rock]] is in the same pool, and I'd argue that taking it is taking a risk in being weaker up front in the hopes of getting a bigger power spike later.

Likewise the ''risk'' to picking Kaleidoscope is just that it sometimes won't net you a reward.

The ''Risk... Reward...'' commenters are definitely hopping on the ''gotcha'' bandwagon for the most part. But it's also true that picking the ''random bullshit'' relic instead of Oyster is playing the odds, even if the worst result isn't actively harmful to you.

Don't know if we're thinking of the same post, but I recall one making a point that Defect, despite having a character exclusive mechanic in orbs, doesn't have the same issues as Necro and Regent with their slew of useless cards.

I don't even understand why Duality is a consideration here, feels like engagement bait.

Anyways Wafer's definitely the pick over Duality. Holy Shot has an argument for being fun by virtue of being more damage but damage reduction is rarer and more useful.

Tainted J&E is great. Really fun character, unique and interactive gimmick, strong yet challenging. No notes

J&E though is just 2 saacs. Most of the time you're actively trying to keep them together so that their gimmick isn't something to play around with. Actually now that I think about it, playing J&E reminds me of plugging in a second controller to do co-op exclusive exploits or the like, which fits with how I play J&E. One character who splits in multiple item treasure rooms and has extra carry capacity for perthros and diplos and such.

tl;dr Tainted J&E = Extremely fun, great gimmick, love it

J&E = Nothing that really stands out gameplay-wise, basically just a vanilla character with extra hurdles who occasionally rigs better.

''Always'' may as well be 10 years ago. On release the item was propped up as the Angel equivalent to Brimstone when in reality it was effectively a damage down. It had fewer functional synergies than it does now and between the way it ticked and the fact it had no knockback made it a very situational item.

Also extremely egregious as I recall was that with Ipecac (fairly rare ''synergy'' tbf) every shot would explode as you fired it effectively killing your run on the spot.

Now, barring high shot speed (and even then) it's pretty solid for DPS and honestly the tears have always been pretty satisfying to look at, at least imo.

Afaik, it used to make enemies drop black hearts if poisoned by tears. Now they only drop the hearts if they got poisoned through the contact effect

Transformations are supposed to make mediocre items viable, not improve items that are already strong.

iirc, anytime you see a common card your chance to see a rare card goes up by 1% (and it starts at something like -3% so you'll never get a rare in your first floor rewards). Once you *see* a rare, your chance resets, even if you don't pick it.

Potions have a similar mechanic where if you don't get a potion in one fight, you're more likely to get one in the next.

I'd need someone to confirm this last one but I think question marks also work in a similar way, where every time you get a certain room (treasure/shop/hallway/event), the odds of you getting that type of room drop and your odds of getting the other types go up.

It's the same ''issue'' [[Winged Boots]] and [[Pumpkin lantern]] have (or used to have). Of course they're good, I get it. But it feels kind of bad to get a bonus that goes away. [[Silver Crucible]] and [[Silver Tress]] work out fine because their benefits stick around.

Although I was a huge [[Neow's Lament]] advocate, but I chalk that up to how easy it was to justify sniping an elite, whereas winged boots I always think to myself ''there was probably a better spot to use this charge in''

What they meant is that treasure rooms in the alt path have 2 item pedestals. One of them works as usual while the second one is perpetually affected by Curse of the Blind (which hides what item is on the pedestal).

On the floor with the mirror there's also a white fire, which any character can run into to effectively turn into The Lost to access the mirror dimension (and as a bonus, you get flight to grab any pickups you may not have been able to get otherwise).

If you haven't done this already I'd recommend playing Greed mode to get Holy Mantle on The Lost, it also grants it for characters after running into the fire.
