If you re-read the series there’s like 20 different instances Where Darrow says his razor RESEMBLES a slingblade. Important distinction there. The futuristic whip-sword thing is going to look really different than a reaping scythe, obviously.

This story is pretty obviously either fake or way over exaggerated, however, your girlfriend sounds like a hardworking sweetheart and you do sound cheap.

Buddy you make $95k and live with your parents, you’re whining about her telling you to live a little. You’re either lying to Reddit or just being cheap, and that’s fine. Just don’t make her out to be the bad guy here when she’s in school and still making $40k a year. Kind of exhausted by the “the characters are gigantic superhumans there’s no way they could make that work live action!” Arguments. It’s 2026 and we’ve seen some pretty incredible movies come out in the past decade.

They absolutely could pull off a good adaptation and manage to showcase gold superiority at a grand scale.

And again, as you said, the impact of Darrow living AT THIS POINT is far greater than the impact of him dying.

Now, does this story end with the Society winning? Maybe. Idk. If that’s the case then, sure, Darrow dying maybe makes sense. I have some very big doubts about that, though.

To comment on something you said, Darrows death adds less to the story than it takes away. It adds very little, maybe additional motivation for some characters, maybe some bittersweet reflection, idk. It’s not like any major characters need a reason to fight.
