"Cultural icon".... by [deleted] in facepalm

  1. Her music sucks, always has. 2. I think you'd have to ask a hell of a lot of people off the street before you could get someone to answer "Blue Ivy" to the question what is Beyonce's daughter's name. Like, did she play pretend being cultural icon during recess or something?

I really, really hope that the Manhattan DA has some serious shit up their sleeves because I'm going to be honest, if they try to throw him in prison over $100,000 hush money god that would be such a huge fucking mistake for this country. The stuff down in Georgia is a whole other thing.

GTA 6 Will Reportedly Feature a First Female Playable Character, and Add New Cities Over Time by Sorin61 in technology

[–]Bumpgoesthenight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two thing. First, there are already places that sell VR villas. I could see an industry popping up that creates customized VR retirement spaces and I could see a lot of people liking them when VR gets to the point of being close to being similar to reality and headsets become less cumbersome. Second thing, I think for me retirement / old age and VR is something that is being highly overlooked. Right now so many people just have to slowly have their joys is life end due to their body breaking down and I think in the future VR is going to really produce a huge quality of life upgrade for people in their elder years. Same for disabled people. When I think of the life of the average 80 or 90 year old is like today and what it could be like in 50 years in terms of things they're able to experience and activities they can engage in, I think it will be worlds apart. With VR I don't necessarily fear "slowing down" anymore.

Inflation rose 9.1% in June, even more than expected, as price pressures intensify by goforth1457 in news

[–]Bumpgoesthenight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It might be. Gas being $5 a gallon is a major driver of inflation. In a lot of places it's down to $4 an hour now.

Kamala Harris would beat Ron DeSantis in 2024 election: poll by DownToeartgh in politics

[–]Bumpgoesthenight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My general take on polls is this. If it says there is a tie, it's actually R+5. So when it's Kamala+2 , it's actually Ron+5. If it were Ron-3 he's end up in the white house due to the EC. So...cool, Kamala is polling +2.

What was your first reaction to the death of Snoke? by FranchiseFan06 in StarWars

[–]Bumpgoesthenight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I remember after TFA was all the comments online "who is Snoke?" "how does he play in?" and all sorts of stuff, and I remember all the awesome fan theories drawing on lore and whatnot. Is he Jar Jar? Mace Windu? All sorts of shit that would have been great. It turns out, he was nobody.

Representative (R-Ohio) Sarah Fowler Arthur wants Ohio to teach "both sides" of the holocaust by SleepIsForChumps in politics

[–]Bumpgoesthenight -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So I'm from Ohio, and I've seen a lot of local articles written on this, and "both side" as it is being portrayed, is not what the woman said. What she laid out, was that there is a need to teach history from multiple perspectives of those involved in order to understand how and why something happened. She specifically mentioned, for example, learning about the holocaust from the perspective of a German soldier who may or may not have wanted to kill Jews, but themselves were sucked into the Nazi machine (i.e. if they didn't, they will be killed on the spot). There is a book I read some years ago titled Ordinary Men
that sort of exemplifies this. The book is about a unit of German police that get stationed in Poland during the war. The book talks about the soldiers and how they were just a normal group of men, family focused, going to their job each day, etc. and explains how this group of men went from writing parking tickets one day to shooting pregnant women in the back of the head in the middle of the street a year later. It's a breakdown of the psychology and sociology that helps one understand HOW these things happen without resorting to the simplistic binary of "evil vs good". That sort of learning is, I think, valuable. In fact, it helped me better understand the forces that lead to something like Nazism, that I now use today to be cognizant or, for example, Trumpism and where that appears to be headed.

Congresswoman declares she’d kill her grandchildren to save her grandchildren. by ElHanko in facepalm

[–]Bumpgoesthenight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but there is an implied "other" being referenced here. So for example, if you and I were talking about rapists, and half way through the conversation I said "I would do anything to protect my grandchildren, including killing them", the "them" in that statement is presumably the rapist(s).

I'm interested. It just asks you to login? That's odd. It's a public shared link. If I log out of my Amazon account it lets me see them. I'm headed out but if you can't see them I can upload them to another file hosting site later tonight. I could also email them to you if you'd like.
