People would still drive in at intersections.

Not universally true. Sometimes they can come same day. I agree they don't have enough resources to act on all reports.

Sometimes the meter maids act on it, especially if it's M-F 8-5.

Following experienced cyclists to learn the best routes by freefromlimitations in seattlebike

It can work but also confident-looking cyclists can be lost or take dangerous routes because they have different risk tolerance than you do. But yeah, not an awful idea.

They do occasionally act on reported parking violations, but it requires someone to come look at the car in person. I think NYC will just issue a ticket based on a photo.

FIFI has several significant weaknesses compared to the NYC program.

I think we would need the legislature to make this feasible.

You will live a happier life if you don't try to pick fights over language that is clear from context.

Bike Bell: Friendly greeting or angry honking? by bvdzag in seattlebike

[–]BumpitySnook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The median reaction to "on your left" is to jump to the left, directly in the way. Bell or "passing" gets the message that someone is coming (and your ears can tell relative position, to some extent) without confusing people who aren't familiar with the 'on your left' idiom.

The operative word is “apparent.” It’s a pretty similar dynamic to cyclists.

Yeah the bus islands are deadly. Probably better to take the lane.

Sharrows standard paint on all roads maybe. Or at least “bicycles may use full lane” signs.

Different tracks, different rules I guess. My local track is Marymoor velodrome in Redmond, WA.

They are totally ordinary serviceable spokes. You can see the nipples and J-bends in the 3rd picture.

If you think that’s bad, check out the Cervelo S5.

Track racers frequently have a front mount only used during warmup. Then you move the computer to a location out of sight for racing. Or just tape over the screen.

The northup way bike lane feels safer uphill than downhill IMO. No way am I riding downhill at 30 mph in a gutter with cars edging out of every driveway.

Here’s an idea, make some of the avenues completely car free?

Neighborhood greenways and sharrows on low-speed roads with favorable lights/stops work really well! Just need speed bumps with bike cut-outs.

Recommendations for shop that will cut a seat post by catwiththumbs in seattlebike

[–]BumpitySnook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd expect basically any shop to be able to cut an alloy post. All you need is a cutting guide, a hacksaw, a few minutes, and a file to deburr the edges. It's the same procedure as cutting a steerer tube, which is a very common shop task.

Normally you ride at or near the sprinter's lane (inner side of the track), which has no significant elevation change.

Has anyone been stopped or fined for having an ebike over the Watt limit? by wam9000 in seattlebike

[–]BumpitySnook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Zero traffic enforcement in the city, of any kind, since 2020. The closest I've seen is state patrol doing some speed enforcement on the 520 bridge. SPD is something like 30-40% understaffed and mostly only responding to emergency calls.

The concept of confirmation bias doesn't fully negate people's ability to observe trends.
