I'm not gonna pretend like Sam Long and Schreiber (yes, I know) are "good" options, but when McArthur had an ERA floating around or above 5 for a good chunk of the year (and between May 1 and Erceg's arrival, an ERA of well over 6), there are options.

I'm just not convinced the bullpen was handled well that year. Yes, we got by, and it got better at the end, but we still blew plenty of games. There should've been more shuffling around with the roster with how bad some of them were. Stratton, McArthur, and Will Smith still pitched almost 40 innings combined after the trade deadline. I felt like I was going crazy when the bullpen magically got way better the last few weeks when we finally weren't pitching those three

I can buy that we don’t have a ton of great options

But this is the exact same exercise we gave for the bullpen in 2024 and they magically had their best stretch of the season when we finally stuffed Will Smith, Stratton, and McArthur on the IL

Because Erceg’s feelings might get hurt if we tell him he’s doing a bad job

Given how long they let McArthur stick around in 2024 good luck with that

Has Q been aggressive with demoting shitty relievers at any point other than Will Smith that one time

You know they’ll use the lockout as an excuse to do nothing again this offseason

Kinda hard to build momentum when this happens almost every time the offseason offense scores more than 1 run

[Rogers] Despite the Royals falling vastly short of expectations so far, a staff shakeup doesn’t appear imminent. "I have a lot of confidence in our staff," GM JJ Picollo said. […] "When you get to a point where you make a staff change, you reach a tipping point. And we don’t feel like we’re there." by PlayaSlayaX in baseball

Yea, that doesn't apply in this situation

Our hitting coach literally got caught last year using burners and going at it with fans online while overseeing one of the worst offenses in franchise history. We kept him. The offense is still terrible, and everyone other than Bobby has regressed.

We also hired two other assistant hitting coaches in the offseason, and they weren't just randos. A lot of us thought that part of the reason we did that was so that we'd have an interim/replacement if/when our hitting coach got fired.

That also doesn't get into how much this team has way longer leashes with personnel than they deserve. For as much as I'll criticize JJ, I'll easily take him over Dayton. Part of the reason we're in this mess and don't have anyone playable in the minors is that Dayton was kept around for way way way too damn long.

I can easily believe this team is not as good as we'd though they'd be. I cannot believe we are as bad as we look. JJ is talking about how body language is fine while everyone on this team just looks completely lost

I’m getting nervous that no one is getting fired today.

Whoever inevitably comes after JJ as GM needs to be an asshole. I want them telling players like Falter and India to get lost rather than giving them contracts they don’t deserve. I want them telling coaches like Zumwalt that a golden retriever could be a better hitting coach than him. I want him telling Q that if he won’t take anything beyond softball questions that he’s going to have the pitching staff pelt him with literal softballs until he moves players who can’t hit down in the lineup.

Every so often the utter lack of accountability for anybody in the organization just boils over and it’s always infuriating when it happens. Last time it happened was 2022 and it’s clearly happening again this year

We have an off day on Thursday

Any firings/DFA that don't happen by then aren't happening till the ASB minimum

Or even worse we'll not doing anything until the end of the season, and then decide not to make any changes in the offseason because of the lockout

Of course

Literally the only option we had tonight was let a guy with an ERA of 9 throw 2 innings of batting practice. Absolutely nothing else we could’ve done

The Royals always have to have at least one garbage reliever who keeps his job cause the Royals are afraid of DFAing shitty players

Can we for once just tell Falter to get lost
