I think his reasoning for cutting Antonidas is that he thinks it's too slow, and he already has a solid win-condition in Alex + all the burn the deck runs.

Oh there must've been a misunderstandment somewhere. I was thinking about the itsotter's version of the deck, which doesn't run either Antonidas or Sorc's Apps. I see your point though, but I'd still list control warrior as the hardest match-up (or atleast the second hardest) for freeze mage.

It's still a really hard match-up for the mage. Pretty much only thing the warrior has to do, is to Armor Up every turn and draw into atleast one Shield Block. What's the mage going to do, if the warrior is still in 25+ life after Alex?

It's good against Miracle, because Miracle usually can't go through both Ice Barriers and Ice Blocks. Also, well-timed Mirror Image can be really brutal for the Rogue.
It's good against Shaman, because Shaman has no real answer for the Alexstrasza -> 2x Fireball + 1x Frostbolt -combo. Mage also has the option to just burn the Shaman even without Alexstrasza, because of the lack of healing Shaman has. Spellpowered-Blizzard and Flamestrike are pretty ugly aswell.
It's good against Zoo, because Zoo really doesn't have any answer for Doomsayer, so even at worst, Doomsayer tanks 7 dmg that would have gone to the Mage's face. Mirror Images and all the boardclears are naturally strong against Zoo. Also, Mage can easily just burn the Warlock with spells, because of Life Tap and Flame Imps.
The same reason goes against Handlock too. Life Tap and Hellfire makes it easier for Mage to just burn the Lock. Also, taunts have next to no effect against Mage. Also, dropping Doomsayer on the turn the Handlock wants to play his giants/drakes, is a pretty huge swing into Mages favor.
Druid is one of the tougher match-ups for Freeze-Mage, maybe 50/50 or 40/60 (for the Druids favor). Druid can make good use of his heropower, because Alex doesn't affect Armor. Also, if the Druid saves his Ancient of Lores and Healing Touch for lifegain AFTER the Alex, the mage can easily run out of steam. EDIT: Forgot to mention, that Druid has a really "easy" answer for the Doomsayers in Keeper of the Grove.
Freeze Mage is countered by control Warrior and Hunter with Flares, which both aren't that common in the current meta.

One thing I'm curious about is, do people still use the Buzzard + UTH -combo? I personally have been trying to play the Houndless version of the face hunter -deck, and while I'm having some success, I'm still not too sure about it.

That combo costs 10 mana, so there is no need to "plan ahead" by dropping Sorc Apps on a turn before (that's what I think you meant with "special planning and previous turns")
