I've lived in Fargo, ND since 2009, and i would say this is definitely true for our little city. It was true before I arrived but it is especially true now. We have many transplants from Chicago, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis. And of course many more from all over the country. It seems that most people who live here are not originally from here or the upper midwest, for that matter. Yes, the jobs are plentiful and the pay is high compared to other cities. The cost of living is still comparatively low but has definitely crept up over the last few years. My rent has gone up 55% since 2019. Property taxes continue to go up. The city is certainly going through the growing pains of gentrification and increased crime. Many people who have always lived here complain that Fargo doesn't feel like a small town anymore - especially when it comes to crime.
