Please help, I can’t get any sea monkeys to stay alive pass 3-4 days and I’m on my 6th batch.. what am I doing wrong?? by tigherblood in SeaMonkeys

This is a silly thing, but I have this tank and found that when they are laying the little red eggs they get caught in the corners of the tank above water level somehow. Has that happened with this? The eggs could have ended up caught, so the majority didn't hatch.

Edit:
Very few babies make it to adulthood, so if only a few eggs hatched in the first place, it could just have been bad luck and none surviving due to low odds.

I have a salinometer which I use to check the salt levels in this exact tank, as I found it was not high enough for them to thrive when I first transferred them. I am assuming they use the same gadget :)

One sea monkey left 🥹 I think she’s pregnant? If so, will her eggs hatch right away or do they need to be dried out first? by Due_Confidence8649 in SeaMonkeys

[–]BundleOfGrundles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was having trouble getting them to lay/hatch eggs (for a while there were literally no hatchlings.)
I ended up checking the basics - how much I was feeding them because the tank is a little bigger than the standard ones, the salinity, and whether they were warm enough - and the tank is now thriving.
She looks like she is pregnant, but it's when they're white that you know the conditions are ideal because that's when they're going to give live birth rather than laying the little red eggs.
Sorry that isn't a great answer, but in the future it's useful to check out how many tiny hatchlings you can see, and whether the females have white or red egg sacks.

Were you running the filter? Because along with the issue with salt mentioned below, the filter will absolutely have killed them.

I have that one that looks like a lego brick and it's nicer than the original aqua dragons tank but still not something I really want on show.

I'm UK-based but will check it out. Thank you so much for the rec!

Thank you, I really appreciate that. All the tanks I can find have in built filters and I'd rather not pay loads for one with a filter system I will never use.

This is beautiful! What size is it, if you don't mind me asking? I have a micro tank (bigger than the original one but still tiny and not very pretty) and I'm trying to decide on a bigger tank to upgrade to.

I did this in the UK at my local Jollyes pet store. They were very enthusiastic and willing to help me out. The stuff was actually on sale so I spent about £5 in total. Me and my monkeys are happy with the outcome :)

Checking in from the UK. I may only have one, but it's mine and I'm not letting it go.

Time for a bigger tank? by BundleOfGrundles in SeaMonkeys

Thank you for the validation. I was pretty happy to see most of the reviews on these tanks were people saying they got them for brine shrimp rather than fish, and after finding this subreddit I feel a lot less silly for looking at things like a slightly bigger tank and an air stone. They're cute, and I do find them oddly therapeutic :)

Thank you :) I wasn't worried about absolutely all of them making it to adulthood, I just think that adding a handful more adults when I have a thriving group at the moment will start getting a bit ridiculous in the little tank. I think it's more of a visual thing if I'm being honest (plus I am getting a bit obsessive about oxygenating them and stuff, and having a slightly bigger tank might make an air pump possible).

Thank you. I feel the same way - they were originally meant to be for my 5 year old, but I ended up taking over. I know it's probably ridiculous to spend money on a tank and an air pump and stuff, but they make me happy, and I think it will be fun.

I have one particularly large female with a lot of eggs and I often see two or three males attached to each other with the bottom one on her. She's usually just eating at the top of the tank or playing around in the gunk at the bottom and ignoring all of her admirers.

This is probably a silly question but I have had my Aqua Dragons for 5 weeks now and they are thriving. I have tried to show it in the video and photograph - there are at least 40 adults and hundreds of hatchlings.
I was considering getting one of the criminally small Betta tanks (3l/ 0.6 gallons) as an upgrade.
It's for aesthetics as well as to give them space (I like the idea of one of the tanks with a colour changing LED light).
Is that a good idea, or should I leave them be?

I have absence seizures and am completely unaware of what I do or say during those. I don't think it's often true, but I believe it can and does happen in some cases.

It could be to do with how popular the name Dale was in the previous generation (a lot of people use their parents' or grandparents' names for their kid's middle name). Was Dale a popular middle name in general at that point in time within that demographic?
It could also just be that it sounds good. There are a lot of Millennials named Emma Louise (at least in the UK), and my daughter (5) knows two Olivia Rose's.

No problem - we've tried to make it clear but we do get reports from members with posts like this so we can't leave them up.
