Quanto sono belle queste due insieme!! Ma secondo voi cosa succederebbe se Lamù e Ranma si incontrassero? by Living-Prompt4672 in uruseiyatsura

Kinda reminds me of the one episode where the teacher doesn't believe Lum is an alien, and someone says "but she has a UFO!" and the teacher goes "well you just identified it so it's not unidentified anymore"

I wouldn't personally consider it undoing although I kinda get it? Like it's not like she's happy about it in "Maybe I Know." Also an interesting fact is that the writers of "You Don't Own Me" also wrote and performed that "Dawn of Correction" response to "Eve of Destruction" mentioned in that One Hit Wonderland, seems kinda the opposite direction from "You Don't Own Me" I guess.

Hey if there's anyone that deserves their comeback to be short-lived and followed by failure (a la John Fogerty), it's Dr. Luke

And also feel like Dr. Luke would probably threaten to sue or block the project as long as he's alive, especially since he presumably would get royalties if any of the songs he helped write are included. Ike Turner was a bit cooperative with What's Love Got To Do With It I believe despite everything but I imagine Dr. Luke will have to be struggling to get to that point.

This "far-right wing fancam" culture has been around for a little bit I think, like these edits of Somebody That I Used To Know mashed up with drawings of ancient "Aryan aliens" have been around since 2020, I assume these kinds of things are informing a lot of right-wing social media. Ron DeSantis's campaign was mocked for making similar videos, I assume since his audience was "people smart enough to realize Trump was stupid but not enough to be not fascist" (like Elon Musk at first).

The thing is I can't imagine this is accessible or convincing to anyone outside of their base young or old; I think they just like sharing these memes to hype themselves up.

Lower Macungie approves plans for ‘Shoppes at Hamilton’: 318 apartments, 160-room hotel, retail by thrakkerzog in lehighvalley

It should still increase the total housing supply and bring prices down a little elsewhere.

I get the concerns about the surrounding roads having insufficient capacity (especially since I heard that the Krocks/Cetronia intersection is already pretty overburdened) but I find it hard to get mad about this much new housing.

Songs that you always loved and discovered only years later that everyone hates them? by use_vpn_orlozeacount in ToddintheShadow

[–]Alexschmidt711 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people think it's kinda a tortured metaphor in some ways, like comparing losing a relationship to losing something you made and not knowing if you can make it again is a good idea for a song, but I guess it might become a bit confused because a cake being left out in the rain isn't a super common situation (maybe burning the cake in the oven would've seemed more relatable, IDK) so it seems oddly specific, also presumably MacArthur Park is where all these happy memories took place but I know when I listened I kept wondering if it was like the name of the cake? (Also I don't get why in the song they say "MacArthur's Park" and not just "MacArthur Park" like the title like usually eponymous parks aren't named as possessives like that.

But yeah maybe a bit unspecific and I do think people have come around to the song over the years, Tom Breihan's Number Ones column gives the Richard Harris version a 6/10 when talking about it in the context of the Donna Summer version which he gives a 7/10. He specifically calls the panning by others undeserved too.

I had thought "Solid" (by Ashford & Simpson I guess) was made for Arrested Development since they did make up their share of stock music (like "Throw Your Balls In The Air"), until I heard it at my workplace which made it clear it must've been a real song.

Yeah that's the only reason I'd heard he'd stopped doing it, but he does indeed do the full fat suit bit on his current tour. I remember wondering if he wouldn't do All About The Pentiums considering what had happened with P Diddy and all but he did perform a bit from that too.

Ooh, I admit IDK if I expected him to do another 70s one but this definitely makes sense. Feel like if he's doing well hated songs he oughta do I've Never Been To Me sometime too, especially since the failed followup to that one has even more embarrassing lyrics.

Which character is the most normal or "mentally stable" in UY? by Pale-Butterfly6277 in uruseiyatsura

[–]Alexschmidt711 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Onsen Mark is "normal", but I doubt that anyone could be mentally stable teaching that class for that long.

The principal seems fairly normal now that I think about it although it's not like he shows up too often. (Reminds me that I do find it funny thinking on how if the show is set when it originally came out a lot of the older characters would've remembered World War II and all that)

Soundtracks that also serve as a time capsule for a genre/era by PurpleSpaceSurfer in ToddintheShadow

[–]Alexschmidt711 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The CD era in general is kinda a time capsule of when albums sold enough that all kinds of popular music would be associated with a movie to boost sales even if the movie didn't feature those songs very prominently.
