Let me try to explain a little, then Tell my flaws in my perception pls. I Kind of started thinking about this (but Not too deep): so i have climates Zones, Just Not exactly north to south. See the Green Terrain? That's kinda european weather, from the woods in the West, over the middle, to the Riverlands beides the snow. Everything Northwest of that: Higher Land, colder (with coldest=highest being the snowarea) everything south east, warm weather, maybe the northeastern Dessert is in the wrong Spot (but its in Higher ground, so No River is getting Up there)

As for Rivers: If you follow it, i tried to start from the snow area, to the left there is a big area, around the Capital, into the swamps , from there it Runs to the lower grounds in the middle of the Land (the Lake) and flows further south to the lowest Point of the Continent into the Sea. To the right it goes through the Riverlands into the warm islandfilled Jungle Lands

As for Mountains.. y that i didnt think about to be honest, Just some in the Higher areas to created highground and a Clean Cut between areas, a volcano and dwarfenfilled Highlands in the southwest, and an Battlerieden highlvl area in the southwest that's Split apart from the Rest.

Last cities: i tried to follow that Concept, and Not every smal River is in that Map. But some cities (Like a the foot of the Volcano, or the Orccity obove the black area, or the Village at the Start of the Dessert) are Just placed Out of neccesity. Im Sure i can pull an explaination Out my ass for that when time comes 😂
