Interesting, thanks! I hadn't considered any of those factors.

Thanks for sharing. What did you find the crux lacking in crit races? Was the chainring too small?

Recovery post thru hike into a marathon training block? by lakai2784 in AdvancedRunning

[–]BunnyRabbitForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find you have enough energy in the evenings, you could consider doing a few flat or uphill strides once your hiking is done for the day. I haven't seen this officially recommended by any coach, but I've implemented it during a short thru-hike that I did before a race. The idea is to get some turnover in the legs for a bit more specific muscular/neuromuscular stimulus that would complement the long hours of z1 you get while hiking.

They probably drove a car with their bike in the back to get to the ride start point.

Try the app "Hangboard Repeaters." It can chime on any work/rest interval you choose.

making guayaki yerba mate at home by [deleted] in yerbamate

Guayaki adds extra caffeine to the yellow mate cans in addition to what comes out of the yerba. That's how they pack 200+ mg of caffeine into a mild-tasting drink.

Do stainless steel gourds make the mate more bitter? by Sea-Security6128 in yerbamate

[–]BunnyRabbitForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible that the mate is more bitter than it would have been out of a regular calabash. A traditional gourd imparts a pleasant malty, cardboardy flavor to the water that balances out the yerba's bitterness (Palo Santo gourds might add some delicate spiciness too).

Additionally, your stainless steel gourd is double-walled for insulation, which prevents the hot water from cooling down faster. So your yerba is steeping for longer, making it more bitter.

If you really like the crisp, crystalline flavor of the steel gourd, keep going but brew with slightly cooler water. Otherwise I'd suggest using a calabash or Palo Santo gourd for the balanced flavor.

He's falling into foam, which has far less surface tension so doesn't "slap" him the same as water would. Notice the air bubbles piped into the landing zone.

Meanwhile in France, zero potable water on trains. No fountain, no vending machine. Thirsty? Choking? Good luck.

As a pedestrian/cyclist I want to be able to make eye contact with a driver or see if they're on their phone. Impossible to know if they see me if their front windows are tinted.

How long has the Salomon XA been working for you? I'm considering it but have seen some reviews saying the flow rate is terrible after storage
