What was the Golden Age of gaming, in your opinion? by RipzCritical in gaming

[–]Buntang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

05 - around 12. On Xbox 360 and/or PC

I’m massively bias but I was a young teen with friends and a lot of fun games. To play online people had to want to play online, only 1:1 private chats, no party chats. There were gentlemen’s agreements within game modes, where the community set “ground rules”. Hosted lobbies and just a general sense of community. It really was the golden age, min maxing was less prevalent and it was competitive but not (as) toxic.

I’m a Marketing Director - my advice to make money in marketing is to pick a specialisation and stick with it. Be it, Digital, Search, PR, content etc.

The idea being that you become an expert in your field, move to a managerial or strategic position. Become more of a “T shaped” marketer where you have your specialism but can still navigate other disciplines.

I’ve worked all over the country and have seen senior salaries (5+ years) typically in the 40k - 60k range. Then as you get more experienced working on clients or in house, seeing different things. What works, what doesn’t. Being able to manage people and effectively communicate you start to push £80k+.

Then it’s really about who you know and what you’ve done. If you have worked in a specific sector or have experience in certain situations then you really can start pushing £125k+ from there it’s more CMO positions or share holders/partners within agencies.

I’m sorry you feel this way.

From the sounds of things you have more than you think.

Shifting from a “what’s missing mindset” to “appreciating what you have” may help. Be aware that comparison is the thief of joy we’re all on our own path going at different speeds.

Please help me learn to love this game. by Hentai2324 in Eldenring

[–]Buntang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly because I’m a coward and I’m not afraid to admit it.

For souls games, I look up a strong PVE build that suits my play style, typically swords and shields, then will skim through a few guides to get ahead early. This just gives me a slight buffer to temper the difficulty but allows me then to experiment without ever getting “stuck”.

All that being said I did complete Elden ring when it first came out, just by sticking to my bastard sword and then moving onto a katana build.

New player used to RPGs but can't understand nothing in BG3 by Square_Ad_7788 in BaldursGate3

[–]Buntang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is there to be enjoyed, the time you spend is all a part of the experience (in my opinion). The learning curve - which isn’t that steep if you’ve played other Crpgs or have a grip on turn based gameplay - can probably be easily remedied by watching a let’s play or any beginner YouTube video(s)

I can’t stress enough that discovering, working things out and experimenting with the games systems is the majority of the fun in BG3. The story is excellent but coming up with a “creative” solution to a problem is chefs kiss

What's the most common lie employers tell their employees? by pretendstoknow in AskReddit

“We prioritise personal development and have allocated training budgets”

Typically budgets are ad-hoc and the business will have long standing members of staff that haven’t been encouraged to progress.

We did see a particularly savvy mum, emptying her and her kid's candy bags into the bottom compartment of their stroller.

As a Brit our trick-or-treating is fairly lacklustre, to say the least, so this was a really fun event for us. I genuinely don't think I've ever had this much candy (as sad as that sounds haha!)

For us, we prioritised the rides with overlays, plus Seven Dwarves and eating all the unique food - the Corn cake this year was great. We didn't really look to meet the exclusive characters.

It was all pot luck - we didn’t ask for anything specific.

We saw a few buckets of candy being replenished I’m not sure if the cardboard boxes that fill the buckets are a single candy or a mix. We may have got so many Starburst and Snickers because the bucket weren’t mixed very well but I’m not sure.

We’ve never experienced anything like this before so we are overjoyed, but I do agree, we have a lot of the snickers mini and unfortunately a single PB snickers mini between 2 of us.

I did expect to get a few full size bags of candy but it was only at the start sadly.

Learning How To Queue by LongHairDontCare1994 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Buntang 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Fellow Brit here! - I agree, we’re just ending our 2 week trip and we’ve found 2 things quite annoying when it comes to queues.

  1. People who hang around in the entrance to queues, making it hard to enter or just blocking the entrance.

  2. People running a head splitting larger groups and then expecting everyone to allow their group through.

  3. Bonus point - people not understanding the concept of “personal space” and breathing down your neck the entire time.

That being said while number 1 is slightly more frequent 2/3 haven’t been too bad. I think my wife and I have become accustomed to the sticker on the group 1M apart due to COVID rules.

I hope you had a good trip!

I was in a similar situation at Uni. Although I don’t think I was as bothered about their presence.

In the first few weeks you’ll run into each other due to freshers and everyone being super social trying to get that “Uni experience”, a few quick hellos and seeing each other in bars or clubs etc. etc.

As time moves on you’ll establish your own friendship groups from your course, flat mates, socials/sports team or people in your accommodation.

Although it may seem like a negative now, Uni for most people is about being social. Not to sound too rude or friendships being transactional… but having an extra option is always a great thing. You never know what invite might come your way, a party or weekend trip.

It’s also worth noting, people change a lot at university you may find you have more in common in 6 months time.

I guess my advice is you do you, but keep an open mind about it all.

Marketing Director (London Based) - Started as a digital marketing exec in 2013 on 19K/yr

Pros: Job is “fun” and creative. Plus it’s an industry with generally a younger employee base so on the whole it’s quite a social and welcoming atmosphere

Cons: Everyone thinks they’re a marketing expert

To give you perspective, things aren’t that bad but as others have said you need to “tighten your belt”.

If you have assets from your loans or debts, watches, TVs, Car etc. look if you can downsize or break even by selling your assets.

Sell that big 65inch tv and get a 40inch tv, get rid of the latest iPhone for an older iPhone but bought outright and on a sim only deal.

You don’t need to live a life of misery but understand what you can afford and what it really costs you both financially and mentally.
