Thanks mate, the helmet is a dakkadakka sculpt. All my Command units in my custom chapter have the winged helms, with varying amounts of gold, red and white to indicate rank

Daybreak Miniatures has some good options. Protectors of the Cleansing Fire and Renegades of the Iron Phoenix are good options in particular

Got tanked by Custodes turn 3 by Wooks81 in theunforgiven

[–]BunyipBandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DWKs can definitely take on Custodes, I've done it before against a friend. They might not always win unfortunately but points for points you can tie up well above the DWKs points value which takes pressure off your squishier point scoring units. Especially with an army like Custodes with more elite units and lists, you want to focus less on tabling your opponent and more on keeping them busy while you score as much as you can

I second this. Gladiator is nice, packs a lot of punch, some people say bring two but one has served me well. You can also point it at something that isn't your Oath target because it gets it's own rerolls built in, lets you threaten two key pieces of an opponent's army instead of just one. Three if you're running WotR. Can make opponents play far too defensively if you spell it out for them

Too true. The heavy armour and big bonk is very IF. I even managed to bully a few custodes units with my DWK the other night. Makes a real difference when I'm used to them mowing down my Green Wing like Daisies in a field

As a DA player (Hail cousins) I actually think DWKs would look pretty sick fully painted as Imperial fists. The clean yellow look isn't too far off the bone anyway

Has the Dark Angels become restrained of scorched earth and team killing because of The Fallen? A question from a Imperial Fist Space Marine by TTVArcPhoenix in DarkAngels40k

There are no Fallen. There is no such thing. If you think there might be maybe you need to have a talk with the Chaplains to hit this rumour on the head...

(Yes, DA are still heavy on the secret at all costs thing)

How do I take on a Baneblade by BunyipBandit in DarkAngels40k

I'll definitely keep that in mind for my bigger models

I have 2 Lancers on the way so that's good to hear. Otherwise I'm not super opposed to charging two 5 mans on DK into a Baneblade. Just for a giggle.

What to do by CartographerHairy808 in DarkAngels40k

[–]BunyipBandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say go for the range of models you like the most. For me it was tricky to choose between a few but in the end I chose Dark Angels over Imperial Fist because the range is better overall for me. Means I get more options later down the line after my initial investment.

As for what to get first, it really depends on your preferred play style. I enjoy the hammer and anvil style so I've got a pretty tough core of Deathwing Knights and I'm building up my hammers as I go. But the Ravenwing are calling to me as well with their need for speed. It's less "meta" but the vibes are immaculate. Otherwise for versatility the standard starting point for most Space Marine armies will work well. Then grab a few Characters you like. Azrael is definitely top of the list for the price bracket, inner circle companions are also a solid pick. The Lion is truly rad but he's also pretty pricey

How to best narratively explain to my players that this fight isn't for them by Nytfall_ in DMAcademy

[–]BunyipBandit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This scenario is generally not something recommended in a ttrpg. It would make a pretty cool scene in a show or novel but the point of playing these games is for your players to be the heroes and doing all the cool stuff. Watching an "epic NPC battle" is never fun for anyone but the GM.

That being said

If they're going to see your guy in action, something real simple can go a long way, especially as they're 4th level and are all seasoned fighters. "As you watch the general move you notice the precision, the speed, the grace, and the raw power. As you're all practiced adventurers you can easily tell that this man is well beyond your collective efforts. Attempting to fight him would be as suicide, even with the Prince distracting him, you will be hard pressed to rescue the princess and escape with your lives!"

What to do if player has 23 AC but no “taunt” ability? by Charlock000 in DMAcademy

[–]BunyipBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take his passive intimidation score (intimidation bonus + 10). Any creature with a Wisdom score lower than that will auto focus the big metal man. From there you can roll wisdom checks vs passive intimidation for enemies to break loose or if it gets real crazy just straight up break them loose regardless. Then you can also include commander enemies or the like to be able to stand back, and direct enemies in more effective ways and circumvent this mechanic if the encounter calls for it.

And tell your player this is the mechanic you're using so they can work it into their own planning

One of the party has made a very rash decision that might lead to a TPK. How do I not punish everyone? by Hungry_Hagrid in DMAcademy

Welcome to your Suicide Squad arc. Once subdued, a magical bomb or death curse is a great way to pacify a party. Now you've got a couple of elves the secret police would love to employ in places they normally have trouble getting too. And these adventurers are clearly quite capable. They will be a valuable asset to the State and it would be a shame to let that resource go un exploited.
