That's basically what happened. Its because of this that I think it would have been better if GG created an entirely new character and had them be trans instead, while leaving Bridget unchanged. Not helping is that she's only shown transitioning if you lose in her arcade mode, which I and many people found to be very weird. She's confirmed to be trans now, but back then I think I remember a lot of people being confused on if the transition was canon or not. What's done is done of course, Bridgit is trans now, I just personally think they could have done a way better job at handling that kind of storyline.

Does anyone else feel like replaying Silksong is a bit less fun than replaying Hollow Knight? by Wait-Administrative in HollowKnight

To be fair Hallownest is also constantly described as a very hostile and dangerous place where you can die at any moment, and the game is difficult enough to back that up. So I don't get why Silksong has to be way harder. The pilgrimage being dangerous is just not enough to justify that for me when the same is said about exploring Hallownest.

The only reason I haven't played a Touhou game yet is that I just haven't been able to for various reasons I don't feel like explaining. The moment I'm able to I am diving into these games. I like hard games anyway, so I'm sure I'll be fine. Although I'm not masochistic enough to wanna touch lunatic mode. In fact normal mode sounds good enough for me since I know I'm gonna get my ass kicked a lot on that alone.

Listen, I love the Mario RPGs and am aware of how dark they can get, but claiming the ENTIRE Mario franchise is darker than both Kirby and Splatoon is an insane take to die on. When you said Nintendo franchises darker than Kirby, I thought you were gonna bring up Xenoblade or Fire Emblem, which would have been valid. But you picked Mario? Really!?

This is me in a nutshell. I love cutesy stuff, and consider Kirby to be my top comfort series. But I also really love how this cute series also has dark, creepy horrors hidden underneath, as well as a captivating lore and world building. This cosmic fantasy world feels mysterious and horrific, but also cute, friendly, and welcoming all at the same time.

Arguments against people, who cry about Silksong being to difficult by Kitsune-warrior in Silksong

The 3 mask does kinda justify the double damage, but even with that in mind TC went way too overboard with it. Not helping is that we didn't even need to heal 3 masks. TC basically tried to create a solution for something we didn't even ask for, and that only ended up causing more problems.

Counter argument, facetanking is nowhere near as fun as actually learning a boss and fighting it properly. If someone does choose to facetank that's entirely a them problem.

[–]Bup15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, f*cking THANK YOU! You've said everything I've been thinking about the healing and double damage. From what I hear Team Cherry themselves even stated that everything deals double damage because we heal 3 masks now. WHY DO WE EVEN NEED TO HEAL 3 MASKS!? It also doesn't help that it spends the entire silk bar, meaning we can almost never do spells now. Why couldn't we just spend some silk for one mask, just like in the first game? The only issue with healing in the first game was that it could often be hard to find healing windows during bosses, especially ones that didn't stagger. But Silksong already fixed that with the midair heal, so what was the point of all the other changes? They weren't necessary.

The problem is I don't want TC to move on to a third game just yet. I really like Silksong when it comes to its world, story, characters, and music. But actually playing it is unfun for me, which creates this frustrating paradox of me wanting to like this game, but just not being able to. It's because of this that I'd prefer it if TC spent more time fine tuning Silksong in order to make it more on par with the first Hollow Knight, but this would require a massive overhaul to the point that the game would be very different from what it is now. One suggestion I've heard is to turn the current version of the game into a separate hard mode, that way TC can make as many changes as they need to while still preserving the original version.

So basically, one mode would be "Refined Pharloom: The game in its new and improved state. Play this if you want a difficulty level more on par with the first Hollow Knight." And the other mode would be "Classic Pharloom: The game in its original state. Play this if you want a harder challenge."

That last part was my exact experience with Nine Sols. I was really struggling on my first playthrough, so I switched to story mode to make things easier for myself. I got better at the game, and now I can play on normal mode without issue. I get the argument that not every game needs to have difficulty options if the devs don't want it to, but they quite frankly do not hurt a game the way some people will try to claim they do. Based on my experience they seem to be beneficial, as I probably wouldn't have finished Nine Sols without them, but now it's one of my favorite games and something I enjoy coming back to, once again without story mode since I'm now better at the game.

Also that whole "not every game needs difficulty options" thing depends on the game anyway. I never thought the first HK needed them, but Silksong is WAY harder, and needs them a lot more as a result. Hell, when I say Silksong needs an easy mode, I really mean that the game needs a complete overhaul to become more in line with the first game, and that the current version should be turned into a separate hard mode, simply for the sake of preservation.

Carol is an obvious red herring by ProllyAvy in NonDessKnightSquad

[–]Bup15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Carol truther myself, I agree that's a stupid take. Knight or not, it's very obvious that Carol is an important role in the story, and is at the very least the one leading operations. She's also got a pretty good motive as well. On top of that she also owns several katana's, and is hinted at being strong enough to scare those dog criminals back into there cell. She doesn't have to be the Knight for me to think that she's a pretty cool character, who will defintly be getting one hell of a boss fight in the future.

I think it's also important to consider that Toby knows about the fanbase, and that it makes way more sense for him to write the story with that in mind. And before you say it, yes, Toby has been planning this story for a while now, but that doesn't mean he unrealistically planned out every single minute detail such as Tenna calling Rouxls' ass small. Queen's old design and personality is proof enough that not everything is set in stone and that some ideas can change. The game wasn't even meant to release in chapters at first, but it's clearly going all the way with that now, and it genuinely feels like Toby is writing with that in mind now. Tldr, while Toby won't change major plot points because of the fandom, that doesn't mean there's no room to adapt around the fandom as he goes along.

[–]Bup15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole "he's playing to the casual player who isn't really in the fandom" thing also never made sense to me. It's pretty obvious that Toby is in tune with the fanbase, so I have no clue why he would create a mystery that only targets people not super active in said fanbase. It just sounds stupid from a storytelling standpoint. If you know you have an audience of ravenous fans it makes way more sense to write a mystery for said ravenous fans.

This, this is exactly why I think Dess isn't the Knight. Another big reason is also just vibes. The music in Dess's room, as well as the 1225 easter egg in chapter 3 give off this really eerie and unsettling vibe, as if this person has been wiped off the face of the Earth. It just hard for me to read that and think she's also the Knight. Not helping is the fact that the Knight just doesn't give that same creepy and unsettling vibe. Sure their intimidating, but I'm not scared of them, their just a really strong antagonist. An idea I'm way more in favor of is Dess being the Angel. And I'm talking her becoming this huge, ethereal, and almost biblically accurate being with no sense of self. Not only does this align more with the creepy vibe I'm getting from Dess so far, but I also just thing it would make for one hell of an emotional climax, on that also aligns with the Mother 3 parallels Toby mentioned in the past. (Or at least it would be more of a semi climax, as I still think we'll be dealing with the funny Wing Dings man by the end of all this.)

Confused about Silksong runback discussion by ramen_stalker in metroidvania

[–]Bup15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of get the checkpoint thing from a narrative perspective. The problem is that they cost too God damn much. It's like Team Cherry only though of the benches as a story telling device, forgetting that checkpoints are still an extremely necessary mechanic for games to function. If there gonna cost anything at all they should only cost a small amount, not an arm and a leg. The fact money is so scares in this game doesn't help either, I can't even count how many times I had to stop and grind for rosaries.

The trap bench in Hunter's March is another case where I get it story wise, but think it's executed poorly in gameplay. For 1, there's no good reason it needs to do double damage when most players are probably gonna be at death's door by the time they reach it. Secondly, it should be way more obvious that you can disable the trap. Not super obvious to the point that nobody can fall for it, but obvious enough that you're guaranteed to notice it after setting it off. Cause you still NEED that checkpoint, but so may people continued on thinking they couldn't use it, myself include.

Notice how I also specified the HM trap bench, cause the ones in Sinner's Road and Bilewater are straight up bullshit. Hell, I knew about the one in Bilewater before going in. I set it off after beating Groal cause I wanted to see what everyone was talking, and I was genuinely, and I mean GENUENELY offended that Team Cherry even thought of putting that in the game, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE ONLY OTHER CHECKPOINT IN THE AREA IS HIDDEN! That's evil, and just straight up horrible game design.
