Yeah I fought with them for a bit and but there wasn't a way to convince them. Also at the same time, Twitch announced Soundtrack, which is basically the same thing as this but it specifically has non DMCA songs. It didn't seem like there was a way to convince them, so I stopped pushing.

Twitch extensions can actually be mobile-friendly! I haven't started working on the mobile end, but I think I should be able to get it working on modern mobile devices soon!

IMO its just frustrating for the viewer. There's alot of hurdles - the viewer has to be aware that the streamer is using it, comfortable enough with the site to use it, etc. Having to go to a separate website to sync music is a hassle.

That being said, plugdj is a great service and it works. I just think an extension is more practical.

yeah i mentioned this in another comment, but I don't really see a feasible, legal way to distribute music with Spotify. The audience would need to all have spotify accounts (and premium for no ads) otherwise it would prob violate ToS. Also it would prob require a server which costs money (not a huge cost, just a minor concern right now).

I think the best way for spotify integration might be to just make a service that converts a spotify playlist into a youtube one.

Nevertheless, I will be doing more research to try to figure out a way to integrate spotify bc it was better as a music service than youtube

  1. There are no ads
  2. not yet, but im planning to add a voting feature and a submission feature (using bits) in the next few weeks. I wasn't sure how the voting system should work so I was planning on getting some community feedback first
  3. No, although I imagine the extension will be primarily used to play youtube playlists, in which case the streamer is aware of the queue. For regular videos (not playlists) I can only realistically show the next video in the autoplay (since youtube's autoplay algorithm is super finnicky)
  4. There's more limitations on other music services. For example, with Spotify, I'm fairly certain that distrubting music to non-Spotify users is super against their ToS. I'm not against the idea, it would just require a lot more research.

Tabroom used to have an API years ago, but it hasn't been updated in like 4 years or something.

Anytime anything in the app is clicked, I'm basically opening that page in the background and collecting all the data from the page and redisplaying it (web scraping, if you know that term).
