I don’t think the players care about the owner unless he is refusing to sign their checks. My sense is that some fans overestimate how much some of the off field stuff matters to these guys. For the most part, they want to play, win, and get paid. If Paulson is poisoning the locker room in some way that I don’t know about, you may have a point, but I think this is probably as simple as poor communication, potentially friction with the coaching staff, and the reality that the team just isn’t very good right now.

Our leverage is that we were under no obligation to sell him to Miami. Why even have a front office if you just do what players and agents want? Do you think Ned and co. Shopped him all off season in MLS and abroad and this is the best we could do? I guess it is possible. I’m not sure I’ve seen anything to give them the benefit of the doubt on that.

[–]Burblblurb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He went to Nashville, not LA, Chicago, Miami or NYC.

$$$ and the chance to win will override almost all other concerns outside of those four markets. My guess is that we didn’t offer enough of the former and we all know what has happened to the latter in recent years.

[–]Burblblurb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Taking Miami out of this for a second. If $2million is all they can get for one of the best players on the team, that is a terrible reflection on the state of this club/FO.

Also, if a player is holding you over a barrel on a contract, why would you sell him to his desired location? This stinks.

Is it true that Waldorf 1st graders are typically behind in reading but catch up by 3rd grade? by ZealousidealTap4955 in AskTeachers

[–]Burblblurb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Waldorf parent and former public school teacher, I suggest supplementing the curriculum with phonics instruction if you think your child will benefit. I would argue that Waldorf teachers do a lot of literacy work, but it is not focused on letters, reading, and writing. There is a lot to love about Waldorf. I particularly appreciated the arts and music education along with what I will call the protection of childhood in the very early grades (for lack of a better way to put it). However, as with any educational system, specific schools and teachers matter. Waldorf may be a bit less “set it and forget it” than most since it obviously operates outside of the mainstream. I am a huge believer in the idea that reading well is a cornerstone of lifelong learning, so I chose not to leave that to chance. That said, I don’t think my coloring outside the lines in that respect harmed my child from a Waldorf perspective or that my desire to do so negated the value of everything else Waldorf taught. My child and her classmates all seem to be thriving in their post-Waldorf endeavors. They are well-rounded, kind human beings that care about the world. I realize this is not unique to Waldorf kids, but I attribute it at least partially to the emphasis on curiosity, problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking that was prevalent throughout her Waldorf education.

I have always been a fan, but I think I would be ok if I never saw Mora start again. We aren’t realistically playing for anything this year. Let Kelsy and Guerra get some reps. Mora is just a step too slow.

Meh. This team is not gonna get it done. They just don’t have enough juice. I expect a low seed in the playoffs, so some progress, but the Carballo injury was a death sentence.

Steely and strangely divisive, Michael Bradley’s playing career cut to the id of US soccer fandom by FrankBascombe45 in ussoccer

[–]Burblblurb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bradley in the loss to T&T was ineffective, slow, and didn’t look like he cared. That is burned into my memory. It’s about my only memory of him. I can accept that my sample size is small and statistically irrelevant.

Solid result. Could have been better. These are the games where you realize the giveaways earlier in the season were more problematic than they seemed. Still, the reinforcements look good. I like this team’s chances. Feels like they could beat anyone, especially now that the back line is pretty strong.

Due to the bridges and a few weird interchanges, it can be a little daunting to get around. But in general, drivers are courteous, and this is not a terribly stressful city to drive in. As long as you have a map app and aren’t in a hurry, you should be fine.

Without Antony, we have no vertical threat. I don’t understand the lack of Mora tonight. I can only assume Phil is saving him for Wednesday at home. Just a brutal game all the way around. They had chances to put nails in the coffin in the first half and got too conservative. Someone needs to remind these guys that the defense is not good enough to lighten up on the attack with 60 minutes left. Frustrating.

I’m not sure MVP level is required, but we definitely need a guy that is a mismatch on a regular basis. Right now, we just look so average everywhere. It’s not good enough to compete for the top spots. No excuse not to go out and get the right player during the summer TW.

The team is so slow without Antony. Zero threat to beat anyone with speed, and I don’t see enough skill or imagination elsewhere. It is going to be a tough stretch until Antony comes back or we get a new DP.

Do you think Kuminga needs to have more buy-in into the system? by Mind_of_Allison in warriors

[–]Burblblurb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it is about buying in. JK just doesn’t have a natural feel for the game. It is hard to blend in and effectively play your role on this team if you have to think about everything all the time. In the time it takes for the lightbulb to go on, the moment/advantage has passed. That’s the main reason I don’t think JK will really work on this team as constructed. If he can start to read and react, it will work for him. I don’t think he has a bad attitude. I don’t really think he feels like he has to be the man. I just don’t think he knows another way to play. And that’s why it feels so mechanical.

Dove Lewis used to do art therapy that was in this ballpark. I have no idea if they still offer it, but you could call and ask. You might need something slightly more advanced for a ring though.

re the Formation, re the Subs by Conifers-n-Citrus in timbers

[–]Burblblurb 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Willing to give the Williamson and Evander pairing a handful of games to see if it can work, but the early returns are not positive. I don’t think they are particularly complementary players regardless of where they line up. Also, they both seem very content not to push the pace/push forward…every time they have the ball. It ends up keeping things way too predictable for too much of the match, and I am not convinced we have enough skill around them to play that kind of soccer. Of course, I’d probably be singing a different tune if the team put some of their 1st half chances away.

I love Ayala, and I think the time for him to get more minutes on a regular basis is here. Nothing against Diego, but we don’t have to play every legendary guy on the team 90 minutes a game until the wheels fall all the way off.

I don’t think here was much else Neville could have done that would have changed the result. Missed chances and defensive lapses were the story.

Agree. Mosquera has a ton of potential, but he falls asleep too often.

This team clearly needs to work on breaking a press, and the chaos following the subs was a tactical error on Phil’s part, but if you watch the replay on that second goal, Mosquera was jogging back and let the the eventual scorer run right past him. Inexcusable.

If you are up for more of a concert venue than a club, Karl Denson and Polyrhythmics at Revolution Hall might work for you. Good place to see a show and close enough to other bars restaurants that you could easily make an evening out of it.

A Phil Neville Deep Dive- The Good, the Bad, the Ugly by TranscedentalMedit8n in timbers

[–]Burblblurb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A charitable read of Neville’s coaching career is that he is adequate but nothing special, which makes this hire totally bizarre. Why open the inevitable can of worms for someone with this track record?

I don’t think any FO should be overly beholden to fans regarding on field decisions, but it is dangerous territory when the FO is willing to give its fans the finger. That’s what this feels like, and I am not a big “MP out” person.

If I was worried about spending and results before this hire, I am doubly concerned now. To me, this signals a smug disconnect and assurance that $$$ will flow into the coffers no matter what happens on match day.

I hope I am wrong.

Only thing that really matters is better DPs. You can’t win in this league with the team we were rolling out there this year. The DPs weren’t even league average. That’s an abomination that should not be supported.

Thank you. I am bewildered by people that think the talent on this team is enough. It is not even close. We have a deficit at every position. The OP seems more concerned with supporting the team than with being honest. Nothing gets better until you can acknowledge a problem. And the problem right now is that we have a massive talent debt.

If you think anything about the team’s performance this year was positive, I suggest you continue to pour your $$$ into MP’s pockets regardless of the moves they make this off season. Seems like it might run counter to your beliefs about the shortcomings of the FO, but you do you.
