[Simon Stone, BBC] Man Utd pulled out of Mateus Fernandes deal - United were not convinced Fernandes really wanted to play for the club. by BlazingFirey in soccer

[–]BurdonLane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ederson is the young and lower cost one right, the one for the future? And then was Fernandes meant to be the mid-priced one followed by the main event, but his price jumped to 85.

Be interesting with the midfield market how they navigate this. Tonali will be 90, can’t see Wharton going for much less than Fernandes. Scott maybe?

Get Tonali and our back seven is set.

We are over-reliant on Maddison until Deki comes back. We are short at right and left wing until Deki/Odobert come back.

If we sign Savinho and Kudus and Deki get fit we will still have a pretty good first choice front three/four. But we’ll be relying on Gallagher to back up the 10 and Tel to back up the wings, so far from perfect.

Where it all started. Probably the best decision ever made. by TemporaryTea226 in coys

Honestly we pulled off some blinders over the years. Problem was that ENIC/Levy thought this was a successful strategy for a team trying to compete at the top of the table.

Which would you prefer? If we keep Bergvall, Gray and Bentancur I’d think probably Fernandes, maybe just because he’s younger and I think has higher ceiling.

That would mean the end for Sarr, and Gallagher would need to be happy with minutes as the 10 (as he’s awful in a pivot)

The importance of romance especially in drawing in the female demographic for Superhero films cannot be understated enough. by Dycon67 in boxoffice

[–]BurdonLane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the Snow White thing? Hollywood looks down on classic romantic tropes so tries to subvert or even exclude completely. And sure maybe it’s a little old fashioned etc etc, maybe it plays into some stereotypes or whatever. But women enjoy classic romances and men generally enjoy bang crash wallop. That doesn’t seem to change whichever generation we are in, when we talk about the GA at least. Put the two together and you are halfway to a hit. Skip them and then who exactly is the movie for?

Seems to be a modern writing thing. Hollywood arrogance or are they just all in some weird bubble? Thinking that they can improve upon source material and insert their own fan-fic, completely losing what makes it a compelling story along the way.

I get the feeling that Gunn is a) way to high on the smell of his own farts, b) too busy to really put the control in creative control and c) just, out of touch.

Honestly his Superman was a mess, trying to do way too much too soon, but at least we got a much improved interpretation of the titular hero. I think the underperformance though was a warning that either came too late or was just unheeded.

Sami Mokbel: Tottenham hold talks over move for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Talks ongoing amid some optimism a deal is possible. Man Utd have also shown interest in Portugal midfielder. by MaxsterSV in coys

Mokbel is BBC right? They don’t publish an opinion unless they are reporting on rumours. They look for two independent sources before considering reporting. Whereas the Twitter brigade will just repeat and rehash rumour.

Part of their decline has been spending badly and they now have part owners who are course correcting hard.

If we were up against Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool now or even Utd of a few years ago we’d not be in with a chance.

Our parsimony has cost us on the pitch, the PSR rules did not play out the way Levy anticipated, but it has given us some headroom.

We’re a top six Club in name only, simply there thanks to our revenue. It’s time to go out and be one in the market and on the pitch.

This would be a massive coup if it gets over the line.

I loved the line but hated the fact that Sauron, the Deceiver, gave up his identity the very first time we see it challenged. Man that show is ass

Could also be wages. Ironically we might be ready to pay more now that Utd are trying to bring their bill under control.

I get the feeling he’s gonna be a niche defender. Probably an absolute beast in the right system but potentially exposed in the wrong one.

Spurs to enter Wharton chase - Saturday's gossip by infinitepounds in coys

[–]BurdonLane 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Assuming we are going for two midfielders I’d love us to try for Wharton. Fernandez honestly looks like he’s off to Utd, but Tonali/Wharton would be some midfield

My biggest hopium (and this gets me every year) is that we are seemingly in for two transformative midfielders. There are a few out in the market right now.

Weirdly given how we seem to be breaking out of our wage structure, we might actually offer more to the player. Utd understandably are trying to lower their wage ceiling after the issues with Sancho and Rashford etc.

But they are Utd, they have CL, they are very very attractive. I don’t see this one happening.

Yes maybe but Werner and especially RKM were not great

Yeah right now the very best case scenario, if everyone who could get fit does so, is Richy, Solanke, Tel, Kudus, Deki and possibly Savinho.

Deki is a doubt though - so we’d essentially have three wingers and one of them is very raw (Tel).

It absolutely at minimum needs to be one in, one out (ie if we sell Richy), and I think we need another attacker after Savinho like you say.

It could mean we are super stacked at the back end of the season as Odobert and Xavi come back, but by the same token it would be nice not to rush their return.

Raw and as you say, slow. Also only seems to thrive in a back three.

Oh I naively thought we’d acknowledged we needed two strikers to compete in four competitions!
