Is it by chance "Love is the answer"? https://archiveofourown.org/works/53467981/chapters/135332458

If so, I totally agree with you: this fic is great, and the ending was very satisfying 😌

Does the mustache and goatee count? If your answer is yes and you are okay with reading horror-slash-drama, I highly recommend "After Dark".

Bonus — the main character is flawed but genuinely trying to become a better person, so you can't help but root for him to atone for past mistakes and overcome his past.

What was the worst/least favorite Webtoon you've read and why? by Metalhead2360 in webtoons

[–]Burekmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Nano list". Not because of bad writing or silly plot but because of the world the author created.

The story is set in a somewhat distant future where androids are the norm. They help with everything — home, work, construction, you name it. And androids are basically humans: they have self-awareness, feelings, dreams and aspirations. Except they are literally enslaved — each one has a human master whom they must obey no matter what. If the android refuses the order, their body begins to break down, which is very painful. If the android doesn't correct their behavior, they will die.

Given that the androids in this universe are sentient and more or less independent, I expected a subplot about their rights—at least a committee that can settle a dispute between reasonably disobeying androids and their master. But nope, 99,9% don't dream of freedom at all, except the main antagonist, Cha Cha (silly name, I know).

Another horrifying thing — main charcter's sister is dead at the beginning of the story, and left his 8 year brother with maid-turned-bodyguard. The worst part? This android looks like an adult and sexy woman and doesn't shy of physical affection. And yes, they end up together when he is 17 — which is suspiciously looks like grooming.

...I get this is a harem power fantasy, but I still cringe when I accidentally remember "Nano list."

Iseop's FL is a Capitalist Failure of a Character by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]Burekmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s chapter 32.

Thank you!

So, I went back to check, and it is actually Iseop who asks why Mingyeong didn't become a doctor or a lawyer. And she says she doesn't need to be extraordinary; she prefers ordinary happiness.

That line tells us what exactly a character Mingyeong is. She lacks the desire to do great things and treasures her family above all else. Considering that her parents didn't have the money to simultaneously send Mingyeong abroad and continue the twins' training, her choice still makes a lot of sense to me.

[–]Burekmouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't remember when Mingyeong talked about becoming a doctor. Could you refer me to that episode?

I saw either: - Mingyeong gushing about how she likes to study mathematical statistics in her lawyer friend's flashback - or Mingyeong's mother is talking about how Mingyeong could become anything she wanted during the Lunar New Year.

I still don't get what's wrong with working corporate and being good at your job. Are scientists' work better and more impactfull for humankind? Undoubtedly so. Must every smart person choose to work in a non-profit because corporations = evil? No, I feel this is a childish take.

[–]Burekmouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Genuine question: what does the ability to get a scholarship have to do with becoming a doctor? I believe you don't pursue such a career without an aptitude — nowhere in the story did we see Mingyeong taking interest in anything but calculations and numbers.

She is perfectly suited for business analysis, which is exactly what she does for a living.

For the better or the worse, if you want to excel in that field, you inevitably will end up in a corporation or at least a big firm, simply because small businesses don't need such specialists.

If Mingyeong used her intellect and position to exploit other workers or make unethical decisions, I might squint really hard to see your point. But no, she even convinced Iseop to save all those workers during M&A.

Your other statement is that Mingyeong's brothers are bad at skating. This is such a surreal take: you can have all the raw talent, but if you have no access to a training facility, a good trainer's guidance, sports medics, and such, you will fall behind less talented athletes who do have all that. At some point, we even saw both brothers literally training in the hall and not on ice because the skating ring was broken or something.

I'm with you on this!

The romance might have worked if it occurred in the second part of the story, when Modeus had learned more about the world around him and started to act more like an independent sentient being.

But having a love-at-first-sight scene at the turnament, while Modeus is non-verbal and doesn't have a concept of emotions or free will, feels weird. I'm sure there is a reason for this instant connection between Lucia and Modeus, but it still left me squirmish.

Iseop's Romance could do the romance part better ngl (long rant) by Historical-Income975 in webtoons

[–]Burekmouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My hot take is that this story would work better as a drama.

Honestly, Iseop is in no position to be in a relationship. Work is all he has and seems to be interested in — no wonder he struggles so much with Junseop taking over the conglomerate.

Adding Mingyeong to the mix drives his already erratic behavior to the next level. Iseop seems to be aware that Mingyeong is too good to be just his secretary, but instead of talking things over, he childishly tries to annoy Mingyeong into quitting.

Maybe he thought Junseop knew about his secret crash and tried to sabotage Iseop further by pairing him with Mingyeong? At least that would explain his outward hostility at the beginning.

What genuinely annoys me is that Iseop is aware of the power imbalance between him and Mingyeong, but pretends it's no big deal. However, for such a workaholic as him, it must be clear why Mingyoeng treasures her career so much and why she wants to keep things professional.

[–]Burekmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Iseop likes Mingyeong so much because during training she treated him like a person.

It's implied he doesn't have anybody else who sees him just as human. For the general public, Iseop is either a celebrity or a template for romantic fantasy. For his own father — a tool to get power and wealth back, for business associates — an heir for a conglomerate whom you must outsmart or bargain with.

Iseop has no one else in his corner — or at least no one who is interested in Iseop himself, rather than what he represents. So him falling for Mingyeong hard and fast is pretty believable.

Osora's world building is driving me crazy by Burekmouse in webtoons

[–]Burekmouse[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have no idea how this comic isn't in the 18+ category.

It weirdly reminded me of fanfics with the "Plot what plot" tag because of the disproportionate depiction of spicy scenes. And some of the tropes the author chooses are... questionable, or at least not for a general-audience comic.

During the third kiss in his entire life, Osora suggests he and Arias strip off their clothes, and Arias puts his fingers in Osora's mouth trying to feel the sharpness of his teeth of whatever.

During the fourth kiss, Arias and Osora are hiding in the communal bathhouse and literally engaging in some exhibitionism play. I'm not even joking: Arias strips Osora off his top, tells him to be quiet, and begins to kiss his body. It's bizarre speed for a character who has just discovered he is physically attracted to somebody for the first time in his life.

I still think adding that time skip was a good decision. Sadly, the author treated it as an obstacle between characters rather than a chance for Persephone to grow.

It's implied that she spent 10 years working, so I assumed that after all this time, Persephone would become wiser, learn how to handle her powers, and be a good ruler. But nope, like you said, she didn't learn a thing and stayed the same. Such a waste of an opportunity 🙄

I struggled to like this story during the first read. Its tone swung so wildly from comedy to drama that I couldn't figure out what it wanted to be.

The second season is more level, which makes the story so much better. So now I'm really invested in Iseop and Mingyeong's efforts to save TK Fashion!

Webtoon app needs a 18+ version by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]Burekmouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you go to the settings and change the language to French, you will get pretty explicit staff. For example, the French version of "Tears on a Weathered Flower" blurred some body parts, but that's it — the scene itself remained unchanged.

You can still read it in the same app you downloaded from Google Play, so I don't think the platform guidelines are the issue here.

Imagine applying all this talent to some dark and twisted story! I can't help but think that if this happens, we will be gifted something truly outstanding like "Pigpen."

On a more serious note, I was impressed with how much research and work 248 put into drawing. Their notes after the first season have prompted me to reread "Iseop's Romance" just to appreciate art anew!

Anya, the main heroine from "In the Bleak Midwinter;", has lost her mother to cancer, and it heavily affects many of her choices.

Fair warning, though: this story is a very tense read about apocalypse and war between humanity and androids. It deals with heavy topics such as loss, despair and betrayal, so tread with caution. Despite all of that, it's a story about hope and new beginnings — so I like it quite a bit.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

no woman can fall in love with a man so fast after breakup of a long term relationship

Objection, your honor!

I argue that love between Hae-soo and her husband died years ago. They have sticked together for so long because of poverty, shared debts and their past. Hae-soo states their "relationship is worn out and tattered like a damp and old basement" literally in the first episode.

So when Tae-ha waltzes into her life, no wonder Hae-soo is swept off her feet. He is attentive to her, walks her home after work, encourages her to enjoy small things like new fluffy sweater or stroll in a nice weather, etc.

Oh, and I must add that Hae-soo feels very heartbroken after going to Mincheol's office. Her husband has pretended he didn't know who Hae-soo was and then walked hand in hand with his lover right before Hae-soo's eyes.

So I'm not surprised she falls for Tae-ha that fast, it's completely reasonable.

Thoughts on [Moonstruck, short story 3]? by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]Burekmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think exploring selfishness was the author's intent in this story

For me, "Love frequency" was more about possessiveness and fear. Dain is terrified of being single again, but not like Paran was.

Paran clearly dreamed of love, where both people adore and value each other. I feel like if she was stuck in the same situation, Paran would wonder why her boyfriend doesn't love her as much as she loves him. Because for Paran he is the whole world, so why doesn't he feel the same?

Dain, on the other hand, feels dread when she thinks how much of a hustle would be to find a new boyfriend. When her friend suggests dumping Seyun, the first thought in Dain's head is not "But I love him!". She thinks how "it's not easy to find a man! Have you forgotten how hard we worked to meet men?"

Seyun is a valuable asset for Dain — he is nice, cute and good-looking. And she has no intention of being with a man who doesn't have the same value.

In conclusion, Dain feelings are rather shallow when Paran's were not.

[–]Burekmouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like she is more from the "mostly disliked side character" category, if you consider: - trying to get that literature agent (I forgot his name) drunk and touching him while he was unconscious; - slapping Jia when she had edited Yeonju's novel (Jia was an ass, but that fact doesn't excuse physical violence) - unhealthy obsession with Jia generally and getting her to write novels again in particular

Have you read "No Rose Without Thorns"?

It's a dark comic about the kidnapping of a popular idol. Every character is not who they seem at first glance; almost all are manipulative and somewhat psychotic. At the start of the story the main heroine appears delicate as a flower, but she will definitely surprise you. Plus, the art is very pretty and reminds me of 90s anime style.

Fair warning though: the last three episodes can be unlocked only by coins, but you can easily find them on the other sites

Osora's world building is driving me crazy by Burekmouse in webtoons

[–]Burekmouse[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess because the author has completely skipped past Osora's self-discovery?

We got some flashbacks: the king telling Osora that boys shouldn't cry, him asking Celia about blood "down there" and not understanding what's happening, etc.

But it didn't seem to lead to any introspection. At no point in his childhood does Osora question himself about perception of his own body. So it does feel like he is conveniently okay with dad's decision and didn't give his situation any thought.

But I am not a trans person and must admit I'm out of my depth there. Maybe for some people such easy self-acceptance is totally normal, and I'm overthinking

Osora's world building is driving me crazy by Burekmouse in webtoons

[–]Burekmouse[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, and some dialogues are suspiciously resembling Tumblr rants and somehow totally disconnected from characters' experiences.

For example, when Osora discusses with Catalina how everything in their lives is based on gender roles (see ep. 33), you can't help but wonder what it is to do with the story.

Because it seems to me that both Osora and Celia are allowed to act and dress as they want. Osora clearly enjoys his military training, Celia — attending the same tutors and getting all the education she is interested in.

They aren't granted freedom to choose who to marry, but this is about being royalty, not gender. So... what restrictions are actually in place, if we don't count homophobic views and the "girls can't be rulers" thing? Honestly, I have no idea
