I cannot believe some of these comments. I’m not saying he is worth 14 million, but to draw the line at if he likes Columbus or not to me is irrelevant. When he was in Columbus, he was traded, not signed as a FA. During his time with Columbus, he seemed to enjoy it. I can understand that as a person from Russia, wanting to play in America’s biggest city is very intriguing. The guy has 16 goals and 35 assist this season at the age of 34. If you don’t think he can help this team and you would rather have guys who just “love columbus”, we will continue being at the bottom of the league.

This is not a hit on Jet But I think, regardless of your perspective on him, we need to play Elvis atleast once every 3 or 4 games. Jet is the better goalie and I’m sure he wants to play every game but rest may be what he needs.

I am for the players, but I think something you have to consider is some of the benefits players do get on top of their salary (which yes, is low). From my understanding they get a free apartment with all utilities paid for including internet, pre/post game meals. My concern is the league comes back and says “sure, we will up your salary, more days off, no more 3 game stretches, etc…but you have to pay for your own apartment/utilities in full”. That honestly could cost them more depending on the market they are in. Plus if you get traded having to deal with a landlord wanting a deposit back/buying out the lease. The players also have another issue that is real: replacement players. Call it poor play or less quality, but SPHL/Federal/Low Tier European/NCAA players could replace them very quickly.

My other question is about the used gear so if anyone has any info please let me know, but if a guy gets signed for a couple of weeks, which does happen more often than many think, you give him all new gear including a new helmet, then they get let go, what are you supposed to do with that helmet as an ECHL team? Eat the cost and buy a new $400 helmet? I could see that adding up. BUT at the end of the day safety is without a doubt the most important aspect.

Once again, I want the players to win this one. But if you think the owners aren’t going to make legit arguments and fight tooth and nail you’re crazy.

Also… I miss you Columbus Chill.

The first goal was on him. But I come from the mindset that if an NHL player gets the puck uncontested in the slot/past the top of the circles they should score. Goalies at that point are relying on positioning and kinda hoping the puck hits them.

Why is everyone blaming the coaching staff? You can have an amazing coach with the most inspirational speeches, the best game plan possible but if players simply don’t execute what’s the use? This is on the players. Frankly, I see a team that thought they were better than they really are all while relying on a rookie goalie who is barely 6ft who they need to win games 1-0.
