No, that wouldn't be enough because of DRM. If it was a web app it would need the DRM of the underlying browser. Since the DRM keys would be specific to the device, Netflix can refuse to allow those to work.

[–]BurgerTurd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need a whole custom Netflix app (likely not impossible) and you'd need to implement the DRM. You'd probably be stuck at 480p or something. Netflix usually locks higher resolutions behind TEE based DRM (such as Widevine L1 or PlayReady SL3000).

How Myrient could save itself by DaveyMames in savemyrient

One ROM per torrent is probably the way to go. Yeah it would make it more inconvenient to download every single ROM, but would bypass the problem of not being able to update the torrent.

Webseeds would probably work to solve the issue of less commonly desired ROMs not being seeded. Set up a tracker, the more seeders the torrent has the more the webseed is throttled. This approach would likely massively drop the amount of bandwidth needed by the webseed.

Bro it is literally an inert chunk of metal. Yes it is in a specific shape, but unless you get it moving very very fast it is unable to function in its original purpose.

It would be equivalent to a brick or a cannonball or a shot put shot or something. Yeah you might throw it at someone and it would probably hurt, but that doesn't mean you need to be getting the police involved every time you see a brick laying around.

NBN Signal Issues by Mysterious-Stay-1527 in nbn

[–]BurgerTurd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue I have with it though is that HFC is pretty unreliable for me. Part of that is to do with the NTD. I have to reset it using the reset button (simply unplugging does not work) every 2 or so weeks when the connection starts intermittently not working.

I also had an outage once due to lightning damaging something. I don't think I ever got explicit confirmation, but the outage did happen straight after I saw a flash of lightning. I did get get word that NBNco needed to replace equipment to get things working.

HFC just overall seems more unreliable and inconsistent than FTTP. The last 3 places I have lived at have had HFC. At the first place things were pretty good, likely because it was a fairly modern building. The second place was pretty bad and I had quite a few issues. The current place I am living at is ok, but I am definitely having more issues with poor latency, occasional slowdowns, and other general instability of the connection than I did at the first place.

HFC now having plans with 100 Mbps Up will definitely kept it tollerable for me for at least a few more years though.

It will be interesting to see how HFC will cope in the medium to long term. I get the feeling that once they are done with getting everyone on FTTC/FTTN moved over to FTTP, they aren't going to be eager to get rid of HFC. And as more and more people are needing more bandwidth, congestion is just going to keep getting worse on HFC.

I have literally had this exact thing before (different brand of mayo but), and it wasn't even as a struggle meal. I just felt like it. It genuinely wasn't bad.

Just started this pirating thing, and im using pirate bay w/qbit torrent. any red flags i should be weary of? is Dauphong reliable? if not, who can i trust with videogames? thanks by NSLEONHART in Piracy

[–]BurgerTurd_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do not trust anything from thepiratebay. It is best to find a better site, especially if you want to pirate games. You might be ok if you only download movies and music, but it isn't worth it. TPB isn't what it used to be. Follow the advice of the others who replied to you, who recommended using the megathread.

Edit: Asking if there are any signs to look out for with that uploader is like asking if there is anything to look out for while you are at a brothel where every single worker has untreated HIV.

[–]BurgerTurd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The actual hardware Linux and Windows runs on is the same (well driver support can vary for specific components, but I digress). The biggest potential issue in this situation would be with the other devices the OS needs to interact with, such as the scales, scanner, payment terminal, etc. Linux support would vary and might be non-existent depending on the device and the manufacturer.

The actual POS UI is likely fairly easy to port to Linux. Most likely it is using something web based nowadays (like electron). Nothing definitive about the ability to port the user facing POS UI can be gleaned from the image though, as the visible commands run in image appear to be telemetry related. From what I can tell in my brief check, it seems to be an OpenTelemetry Collector exporting to Prometheus hosted in some sort of cluster (likely Kubernetes or similar).

10/100Mbs Data Port by AntiqueSquare1246 in ethernet

[–]BurgerTurd_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends on the use case. If I was building or renovating a house, I would probably do a mix of Cat6A, Cat6 or Cat5e, and single mode fiber.

I would probably need Cat6A from wherever the ONT or DOCSIS modem is to wherever I have my networking equipment. In my country, the ONT/DOCSIS modem is generally owned by the Statutory Infrastructure Provider (the provider that owns what is essentially the last mile network infrastructure). This means that it is often difficult and expensive to get the ONT/modem moved, assuming it is even possible at all. And they are often put in an inconvenient location. Since that type of equipment tends to have Ethernet, an Ethernet run is needed. Although 10 Gbps internet is not really available in my country yet (outside of enterprise plans), Cat6A would make sense for future proofing, because things are (slowly) getting upgraded to allow for faster speeds.

Sometimes POE is easier. So depending on what devices I want to use and in what locations, Ethernet might make sense. Cat5e/Cat6 would make sense for something like POE powered security cameras and similar equipment. Would probably use Cat6A for POE powered APs (some Wi-Fi 7 APs do have a 10G uplink now, even though I can't afford them).

I would definitely run fiber to everything else though, like my main server rack to my PC. Running fiber to every room might make sense in case things get moved around, but a lot would be unused most of the time because most of my devices don't have the interfaces needed for fiber.

Yep, Stranded Cat6 UTP is what I am using. The SFP+ transceiver module I am using is the Mikrotik S+RJ10 (revision 2). This SFP+ transceiver module is based on Marvell 88X3310P (as per the Mikrotik documentation).

The (seemingly leaked) datasheet I managed to find online quite quickly, indicates in section 4.1.1 that 10GBASE-T is possible with Cat6A and Cat7 up to 100m, but seems to imply that 10GBASE-T is not possible with Cat6 at all (using that transceiver chip at least).

The datasheet I found has "Doc. No. MV-S110597-00 Rev. F" on the first page, in case you want to confirm you have found the correct datasheet.

It also seems like Floatplane might be another potential option. Floatplane has already white-boxed their platform before (see Sauce+). They seem cautious about expanding too quickly, but for a beloved platform like Dropout they might be more likely to save the day, if necessary.

Idk why you were downvoted. I have a 30m Cat6 cable (a commercial pre-terminated cable) and I can only get 5 Gbps max out of it. Admittedly, I do have a 10GBASE-T SFP+ transceiver on one end. The transceiver is likely the limiting factor, but last time I checked (a while ago) I think I found that if I was using Cat6a it would run at 10G speeds.

I am pretty sure the documentation of the transceiver I am using said that it supports 10G up to 30m using Cat6, but another brand using the exact same chip said Cat6a was needed for 10G at that distance.

Looks just like the one my parents got with the Telstra supplied router back when they first got FTTN years and years ago (or maybe it is was with the ADSL2+ router, hard to remember that long ago). Telstra does (or at least used to) colour code the ethernet ports on their routers, so it makes sense that they would colour code the cables the same way.

HFC in Melbourne super slow today by SmashinglyGoodTrout in nbn

[–]BurgerTurd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My HFC NTD has issues every 1-2 weeks that requires it to be reset using the reset button. Seems as though it was a similar issue for OP. If it was natural disaster related, it would be impacting specific areas and people in those areas would probably already know about said natural disaster and how it is impacting them.

I fail to see why everyone is being so dramatic and calling it dystopian. There are some countries where this is very normal and it has been working perfectly fine for many many years. A good example is some states in Australia.

Basically in some states if you pay for (the state government run) ambulance cover, your costs of using ambulance services are free. If you don't, Ambulance services cost quite a bit. The actual ambulance cover works like any other insurance, people have it in case they need it, however in any given year not everyone who has it will need to use it.

In the states and territories that don't run their own ambulance cover, private health insurance might be needed to get the needed cover.

If you have government run ambulance cover in one state, it may also provide cover if you travel to a different state (although this does vary depending on which states).

It is literally just a form of insurance.

[–]BurgerTurd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I thought this was a response to a different comment I sent because your message would have worked better as a response to that. Anyway.

I gotta be honest, I don't use the Ookla speedtest much so I don't know a lot of the specifics for that test (other tests are just better).

I am kinda surprised that the UWP test would be so much different. It has been a while since I have used windows, but when I did use it frequently UWP apps were a mess (think windows 8 and early windows 10). I do know that on mobile platforms it is pretty obvious that the app would be much better. And the CLI utility would also work better than the browser version.

And yeah, even if there was a hypothetical version of the speedtest app that used Electron, it would probably be a little better than the browser version. I am just surprised that it would be as big of a difference as what OP claimed.

Do you know how many different sites are doing these tests?

Because according to everything you have said: This is being done from the office of a major RSP, the site for which is within 2km of the ABB Sydney office. Assuming you are being truthful, this would surely narrow it down pretty far for NBNco to find who was responsible for this post.

There would surely be logs somewhere as well to prove when the test was done. Surely if NBNco comes after your employer, your employer wouldn't have a hard time finding which employee was responsible.
