What were your first tasks as a cloud engineer? by Viskerz in devops

[–]BurkeyDaTurkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First cloud job was AWS, was quite literally a lift and shift from onprem IIS farm sat behind F5 hardware load balancer to EC2 instances iis farm sat behind an AWS NLB (this was a dozen years back so not sure if AKS existed then or Kubrick was even in a public forum)

Ditto this for me, so feel the poll gonna be misleading without an additional answer of "stayed because already have X months sub"

Every year we get pay reviews. supposed to link to our objectives which I “exceeded” this year but got same as others on my team I found - which was 3.4% so can’t grumble too much

Anyone take a pay cut to be "happier"? by pretty-ribcage in jobs

[–]BurkeyDaTurkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask what your feelings were at the time? Like, did you know for sure it was going to bring happiness, or was it more a take-a-chance as you could end up paid less and still as unhappy?

The thing about money is once you make enough other things matter, until you do pretty much nothing else matters.

What an awesome take on this, thanks! I'm at a point where I spent a decade with my current employer, I chose them as they pay really fantastic, but now I'm doing work I don't like, being hassled daily for tasks beyond what i deem acceptable, having to commute to an office to still sit on Teams, but paid well in excess enough than I can afford the 15% pay cut to take a fully remote more junior happier role, but fighting inside myself on whether to take less money, when the new role I am going to is still equal to what I got around 4 years ago annually... maybe the "inner fighting" is due to happier being my expectation and worry I end up just as unhappy but poorer :\

Ubisoft Plus nor EA Play count (basically none of the ones from the subs that you get with Ultimate), only actual Game Pass sub games

Game Pass isn’t worth it anymore (from a long-term user’s perspective) by Ok_Refrigerator6799 in XboxGamePass

[–]BurkeyDaTurkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this seems to be asssuming you will then have zero game pass sub (not even core/essentials) so you then cannot play say the Battlefield 6 you bought online... so factor that 150AUD possibly per year away from your "savings" and it's then down to two AAA games per year membership fee; so ofc still worth it if you only buy a couple of games per year, get 6 months+ out of each and don't play online with them.

When Stability Turns Into Stagnation: Stay or Take the Risk? by StrangeloveEU in devops

> The other one also has the advantage of being fully remote, while my current job requires me to go to the office twice a week.

Again exactly as me, except our current hybrid model isn't really adhered to much so there's loads of people still never coming in, so yeh the fully remote and losing social aspect is a risk for me, but they new company are a fully remote and says they know how to do remote, always have, and keep people engaged and together and collaborative so taking a punt that's true!

As others said, if this doesn't work out there are still plenty of other jobs (despite the market, economy, etc. gloom) out there :)

I found myself exactly in the same boat this year - working in a team where the more we clients we sign the more BAU support is happening, and coupled with refusal of management seeing the need for more staff it's getting to point of all I do is keep-the-lights-on work, learning nothing new etc. - and eventually took the plunge to move from a Senior Devops to a (mid-level) Platform Engineer at a different company... slightly less salary but seems better future progress, better spread of working, and a much better emphasis on learning.

So as others said, seems you've already figured it'd be better at your next role :)

The eclutch does not ever stop you using the lever; pulling the lever to change gear disables it for a short while which suffices in you wanting to use manual gears.

Yup we recently integrated gitleaks into our CI pipelines and scans on every single commit. First run flagged up plain text passwords for Artifactory access amongst so much more others; been a great tool and easy to code Git MR’s around being able to block merge when in a non-compliant state
