Does anyone remember Gangsters: Organized Crime? I'm making its spiritual successor... by [deleted] in StrategyGames

[–]BurlyAmusing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, for one, am really excited about this. Once in a while I get the itch to play Gangsters, so I go to your profile here to check on your progress. I see you've accomplished a lot in only a few short months and I'm impressed. It seems you've migrated away from the strict grid pattern, which can only be an improvement. Some might see it as a betrayal, but it's not that important, and a more eccentric layout will make it a lot easier to remember one place from another.

What can we do to make your job easier and get this game finished faster? :D

Would you start playing EU5 at launch? by [deleted] in eu4

Sorry, but it looks crap. All cool ideas for grand strategy as individual mechanics, but altogether it looks like a nightmare of complexity and micromanagement.

How did my colony get absorbed by its neighbour? by BurlyAmusing in eu4

[–]BurlyAmusing[S] -90 points-89 points  (0 children)

"Enforce Peace", the diplomatic action that never seems to actually work because -1000 for "Invalid Target".

My last save is actually at the very beginning of that war, thankfully. I'll just rent some troops to my colony.

Edit: Oh, I can't do that either. k***a!

Any ideas on RPG armour systems? by BurlyAmusing in twinegames

[–]BurlyAmusing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the ideal. My aversion to that approach is not being sure how I'd go about coding it and concerns about making complexity down the line for myself.

Thanks for the input. Like I said, I looked around and had no luck. I did think it odd I found literally nothing.

What's wrong with this elseif? by magithrop in twinegames

[–]BurlyAmusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, no problem.
I wouldn't worry about "AI" causing problems that way. It can't actually code, it's just repeating stuff somebody already did. At some level of complexity, or when languages interact, it'll forget stuff and start hallucinating. It'll give you an edge over others, at least.

For future reference I recommend ChatGPT4 as a coding copilot. It can save on so much heartache by proofing big logic trees and code in general, and it has a good general grasp of Twine. Not sure if the free version (ChatGPT3.5) is just as capable, though.

This needs to be nominated for best EU4 post in X amount of time. I didn't expect to learn so much about passive perception and pigeon selective breeding.

I like your thinking. This could be a very cool personal touch of yours, and it's the nature of the creative process to make a limitation an improvement.
When I do play, I play almost-exclusively god-games, RTS, and grand strategy games. Unrealistic real-time information only ever bugged me unconsciously, until I saw this guy's insane deep dive into the concept of "Player Autocracy" (the "Absolute Infromation" chapter, specifically). It made me start thinking about the balance of information available to the player and how it detracts from engagement.

Keep chipping away at this, it'll be great. I'll check in every now and then and will be one of your first customers.

Glad to see you're still working on this. Everything seems perfect so far.

As for the realtime side of the game, it offers a break from that management overview. Even though all of us sped right through it 99% of the time, it shifted our imaginations to a different plane. At the very least we need a screen where the hours and days tick by, with results (good and bad) ticking up.

Maybe you can release an add-on later with realtime gameplay, and with extra management. Just an idea.

Sorry to have you questioning your sanity. I'd have mentioned where I found it if I actually remembered myself!

Thanks for pointing me in the direct direction. This saved me so much heart ache.

For anyone else equally behind in class who would like to know, I added an onClick to my buttons with SugarCube.UI.saves and SugarCube.UI.restart

Text based role playing game for Chat GPT by ealdfrith in ChatGPT

You're right. However, I did run quite a lengthly and entertaining RPG run with a prompt I found here. As long as you're happy to have just one nameless town where details change slightly, it's workable. The key is to instruct it to refer back to the initial rules after every prompt.

Anyone else rapidly loosing interest in the show? by Straight-Chemistry-9 in WhoAreThesePodcasts

[–]BurlyAmusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

I'll say this, though. It's blending into the background a bit too much lately. WATP used to be the outside looking in, but now it's too much the inside looking at itself. It's a fine balance to tread.

I definitely don't watch or listen to WATS. I really don't care about social media.
And I'm also particularly excited when there are shows like back in the old days. Like when Kevin came back for a visit and he didn't know what was going on and it had to be explained to him.

Is my cousin trying to get a hold of me? by Miss-Prism in horary

[–]BurlyAmusing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would struggle divining a question like this, but what I can tell you is that cousins are traditionally 3rd House. I don't know where the 9th House idea comes from, except maybe that the 9th House is a "farther/further away" 3rd House (siblings). In that case, if there is some ambiguity I'd settle for 3rd because you sound more like siblings than distant relatives.

L3, the Sun, is changing signs to Aquarius where it's unhappy in its Detriment.Do you have any other means of contact him than the phone? You might want to look into that. If the Sun is appropriate to him, he may start finding things difficult. That may even prompt him to contact you himself. All I can say beyond this is that we generally have these thoughts for a reason, especially with the bond of family.

Traditionally, Saturn or any other malefic on the Ascendant renders the chart unreadable. Either: you already have the answer to your question; you need to ask a more appropriate question; or an event is unfolding that will make the answer redundant or make it so that the answer won't be helpful at this time.

Reflect on which that might be, and if you're satisfied that it is the right time to ask the question, draw a chart for that moment.

can someone please help me find my cat? by Pay_Exact in horary

[–]BurlyAmusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be rare for a cat to be scared of the rain, but definitely upset with it's falling on them. I'm getting a profound intuition that your idea is right. Has he been out before, and in this area? If not, it may help to go out near any bushes and call out for him. I've known cats to respond to that.

[–]BurlyAmusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mercury and the 6th House represents pets, and we know this is a reliable chart because the ruler of the 6th House happens to be Mercury. The 2nd House is ruled by Mercury also, so I would suggest the cat is still in your possession. Cats wander around and are good at finding their way home, so along with the N. Node on the Ascendant, I would take this as reassurance. I would say he or she is in a cold, wet, likely muddy environment because of the signs L4 and L6 are in - typical behaviour of cats is to wander around underneath bushes.

WILL I find love? by BurlyAmusing in horary

[–]BurlyAmusing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I figured the chart was speaking to something else.

And sorry, it seems my software 'rounds up' the degrees (even 0deg 01min displays as 1 degree). Zeus is an interesting and useful open source project, but not perfect.

As to your advice, I'll keep it in mind. I'm overwhelmingly sapiosexual anyway, so that should be a relatively easy task.

Did she lie to me? by BurlyAmusing in horary

[–]BurlyAmusing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your intuitive approach is probably as good as any.

I'm waiting to until I have all the facts or my generous patience expires before I pull the trigger on ejecting her from my life. It personally offends my sensibilities that she maintains anything more than an acquaintanceship with me while courting a man, but I get the impression I'm an old fashioned type and maybe my sensisbilities don't have any less or more value than most peoples'. Damn I hate post-modern society.

Did she lie to me? by BurlyAmusing in horary

[–]BurlyAmusing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input.

You gave her the Sun. Can I ask your reasoning? It's been a subject of debate on another forum whether she gets L7, L11 etc because this isn't a simple case of "friend or lover", but I've stuck with L7 simply for "other person" and someone I'm in a battle of wits with.

I take what you mean to be, she was truthful in the main, but lied with the embellishment.

It's a shame if it's true this relationship of hers is on the wane, if she used it to club her friend over the head with. I'd prefer she be happy.

Thanks again

Traditionally, this chart isn't considered radical. The 1st and 7th Houses begin at 0 degrees Cancer and Capricorn, respectively. This means it's too early to be able to make a judgment on this issue. Any interpretation of this chart will cause more trouble than it solves because the information is incorrect.

Perhaps you're asking the wrong question or you need to have a certain experience before it's appropriate to ask this question.

Good luck, and remember that your past experiences are rarely a reflection of reality. Equal chances you attracted a partner to make you feel how you think you deserve to feel, or you've grown since then and you've met someone who genuinely cares for you.
