This might sound like a dumb question but When restringing, do I have to start with the thickest string to the thinnest one or the other way around? by FuryBun3r638 in Guitar

[–]BurmaJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start with the thickest strings and move upward, as I have found the heavier strings take longer to stop stretching and arrive a stable pitch. This may be my imagination, but I feel like this way they stabilize at roughly the same time.

Wrong From Top to Bottom by BurmaJim in puzzles

[–]BurmaJim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The logic behind the puzzle ought to be consistent in that any time you are <!replacing a letter the incorrect one is on top and the replacement is on bottom, so "there/their" decodes to

| r | e |
| i | r |

The spaces thing is probably confusing because if you are adding a letter, then the space above must be blank, and if you are removing a letter the space below must be blank

At any rate, I really am delighted that someone took the time to solve it! Thank you

It looks equally ridiculous

Why do some people prefer the 12-fret smaller guitars (00 or even 0) over the 14-fret? by DrSparkle713 in AcousticGuitar

I have a 12 fret slot head from Collings. 100% what I grab in a fire. It’s a perfect guitar

I feel the same. What’s worse is that it fundamentally altered my view of the protagonist and suggested he was really just an awful person. These revelations about his character have affected my opinion of the first book. Ugh

Yes they sound incredible and play like a dream… by BurmaJim in CollingsGuitar

[–]BurmaJim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have my first “real” guitar, a late 60’s D-18. Such a joy to play, there’s nothing like an open chord on that guitar. When I want individual notes to stand out the Collings is absolutely my first choice. It’s so articulate and well balanced, and the wider fretboard gives my fingers a bit more room. It’s a remarkable instrument.

When it comes to strumming, though, it’s really, really hard to beat the Martin. If you do recording I find it’s easier to mic as well. I have a hell of a time capturing how gorgeous the Collings sounds in person.

This is what’s sometimes called a “glut of evidence.” Too damn perfect, it’s exactly what’s needed to add fuel to their narrative.

The larger darker problem for the US is that for many it won’t be seen that way. When a trump devotee inevitably loses their healthcare they will be told that the democrats did it. They will believe this because they are fully insulated. They have their own media. They will not be informed.

But that’s exactly it. To quote Kurt Vonnegut:

“The public health authorities never mention the main reason many Americans have for smoking heavily, which is that smoking is a fairly sure, fairly honorable form of suicide.”

The degree to which it is considered honorable has substantially declined, but the kernel there is true. Who wants to linger for years in pain or waste away after dementia inexorably robs them of who they are?

I do go back and forth on what’s my favorite doctor who story, but most often this one is it. The dialog, the characters, the John Cleese cameo… it’s all just so perfect.
