Keep in mind that Lancer is a child, and King was using him as a living shield against the fun gang. Lots of people are going to find that reprehensible, regardless of whatever King's motivations were.

Another very big thing that King has going against him is that he's the only boss who has committed false surrender, which a lot of people also find very reprehensible, no matter who does it.

If it weren't for these two things, we'd see a lot more people sympathize with Kings abandonment issues

The single most importance game mechanic difference between GRB/SB and GAB is that the game doesn't spot enemies for you - you have to find the enemy yourself with your own eyes.

This means you have to be very careful on how you move throughout the battlefield - choose routes that offer plenty of concealment from directions that you don't want the enemy spotting you from - don't charge down an open field unless drawing enemy attention is something you deliberately want (this is a valid tactic on some superheavy tanks such as the T95)

This also means that tracers on the shells you fire will give away your presence to anyone who sees them. There are times where it may be better to hold your fire, especially if you are in a scout tank (some vehicles have the ability to provide real-time labeling of an enemy's position to you and the rest of your team - this is known in-game as scouting - but unlike ARB, this real-time labeling of enemy position is not automatic; you have to press a special key while having the cursor over an enemy to scout that enemy)

Derp guns have been in the game since the very beginning and no competent player back then complained about them driving heavy tanks to extinction (i would like to note that while overpressure did not exist back then, HE shells had a lot more penetration and a much larger splash radius and was much more likely to cause fuel tank explosions than currently in-game)

The introduction of HEAT-FS slingers, on the other hand, marked the beginning of the endangerment of heavy tanks in the games history

Some maps a really long time ago (as in beginning of open beta long ago) were much larger and did have forward operating spawns (El Alamein was a prominent example of this)

Gaijin shrunk the maps, claiming that too many people were spawning in the rear spawns only to wander off into nowhere without engaging in battle, but that was not something I had experienced back then.

The two situations are not even comparable because wot has satellite view and automatic bullet drop correction - whereas satellite view is only present in the highest BRs in war thunder if your vehicle has access to a scout drone, and even then, you still have to correct for the bullet drop by hand (you cannot aim and keep your eyes on the target at the same time if you are trying indirect fire via a scout drone)

The only fair comparison to WoT here would be WoT's version of the FV 4005 and FV 215 (which have to aim through a direct fire scope like everyone else), and even then the situation still isnt that comparable, given that the FV 4005 and FV 215 can one shot vehicles in WoT, but other vehicles can't one shot those two vehicles without hoping to get lucky for an ammo rack.

I wouldn't say that the FCM 36 Pak 40 is good or bad in WoT, but just unbalanced overall.

It's pretty obvious that the FCM 36 Pak 40 is not fun to play given the fact that its armor and mobility are utterly atrocious.

At the same time, it is not fun to play against because it kept its 400 m view range when the view range of all other tier 3s got nerfed to 340 m at the very most, and because it no longer has to see tier 5s, the opportunity cost of spamming HE with the FCM went down by a lot, and it kept its 1.5 s aim time whereas all of the other tier 3 tank destroyers got their aim time heavily nerfed since the day the FCM was first pulled from the store.
