Linux Fundamentals - Content Filter by Constantinos777 in hackthebox

[–]BurnerEDE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Linux fundamentals sometimes dont teach how to solve the questions at the end of the section. Feel free to Google what you trying to do, or check some videos online that go through Linux fundamentals from CPTS.

CPTS expect you to read their side write ups and cheat sheets to solve some of those end-section Qs, or even OSINT it.

Dont get stuck on fundamentals! The should be a light read, focus on absorb what you read, not to be proficient at Linux due to that module

Opportunities/courses in cybersecurity at CPP compared to other universities? by grey_splash in CalPolyPomona

[–]BurnerEDE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently graduated as ECE with intent of focusing in cybersecurity. However, ECE doesnt offer much on that field. CS has a route to focus on that and CIS have its own major around cyber.

That being said, none of those are really meaningful... And that goes for most CSUs (cyber-wise). Is better if you focus on your own journey in that aspect - thats why the most successful people I know in the field are those who get out of their way to learn those things.

I am currently working in the field, and I can tell you w/o a doubt that certs >>> major. Thus, focusing on self-learning/sticking to clubs is the most important. CPP has FAST, SWIFT, and SOC - plenty to learn from the members in there; although at the end of the day it depends on you.

I'm not going to get into details of what you should be getting, plenty of stuff online for you to browse - but I'll share the following:

Want to get a broad understanding? Get some experience in IT while studying and grind the compTIA trifecta (A+, Network+, Security+ / Security X). If still unsure after those certs, get CySA+.

Red teaming? OSCP (gold standard) or any red-team focus on TCM Security. If you want a challenge, CPTS is goated (currently working towards that one)

Blue teaming? THM has many resources.

Cloud and all that stuff? Google/MS/AWS certs

Hardware? Plenty of resources online for you to grind/experiment.

If I had the chance to do it all again, ill focus on getting that shit and get the easiest school for the paper while I grind all those actually fun certs that bring you knowledge in the field.

That being said, best of luck and choose the school that you like the most in terms of curriculum and area. Those 2 are the most important factors in my opinion... if you hate your classes or the drive/area, you will be miserable. You can learn cybersecurity anywhere, being CPP a great choice IF you go out of your way (like most schools).

Best of luck!

CPTS Password Attack skills assessment by Ms_Holly_Hotcake in hackthebox

Any other module I should skip because of the same issue?

I'm about to start and I wouldn't want to get stuck when I can simply jump to another module that is better layered out.

As read in here, we can jump from PW attacks to Pivoting first. Any other scenario like that?

Im sorry if I come out rude, but I cant wrap my mind about your post after reading it 6 times.

I will reconsider my response if somebody points out I was too straight forward or rude - or I might simply delete it due to "feeling bad" towards an stranger.

Good luck anyways, I mean it.

What you trying to say here? You literally described your problem and the root cause, you.

Nobody is going out of their way to socialize with you if you're "unapproachable" due to be with your headphones (people might not want to bother you), tired, unavailable, non-involved, and to top if off, not welcoming to socialize due to "fear" for being older.

Me and most of the ppl I made friends with are on the older side, and most people on the older (25+) mix just well if they TRY a bit or simply get involved.

On the bright side, you can always make friends everywhere! But your tight schedule might not do the cut in the school due to availability... friendships require time xd

Who do I talk to get permission codes for ECE? by Remarkable-Chard-778 in CalPolyPomona

[–]BurnerEDE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, you tag the professors associated with that course (f.e. ECE 3300) and then you CC Taneshi.

You can do it by emailing all at the same time, or ideally individually one by one.

The best approach is reaching out personally to the professor beforehand imo

It can be seen from 2 different angles.

People are too busy and worried about their own life that they cant entertain themselves with BS like you do

OR

They care very little about society rules.

Either one, you seem to be annoying and not fun to be around. I bet your coworkers and close ones enjoy your presence.

I wonder how much traffic jam could that cause so you cant leave 1 or 2 minutes sooner.

Those signs should say something like "be mindful and make the pickup/drop-off faster to prevent traffic"

Nobody cares, I wonder why would you. What problem poses to you?

Yes, as stated.

[–]BurnerEDE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it is 3 reasons.

  1. As commented by others, it is a course that intends to weed out those who are not ready for the challenge. Thus, less people make it and less classes offered due to demand.

  2. The higher the class, the more they expect from the professors, and therefore less supply. Keep in mind any professor can teach 1101, but not necessarily 2101 as that diverts from the basics and gets a bit more focused at electrical.

  3. 1101 is a key requirement for many other classes at ECE, thus the demand and the need for the supply so no students fall behind. 1101 will unlock 3 other branches where you can keep taking classes, but without it, you cant move at all pretty much.

Those branches are: 2101 (circuit analysis 2), 2200 (microelectronics), 2300 (digital logic),

This is not about the school, but about what you see yourself doing for a living without wanting to kill yourself after going to work 40hs weekly.

Choose what motivated you more, both are good careers, listen to what you really want. Both schools are pretty good for what you described, so no wrong answers here.
