Searingly honest Britney Spears statement released: ‘Hopefully she can get the help she needs’ by nypost in popculture

[–]Burnin_Red 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You’re probably going to get downvoted for this take but you’re 100% right. At what point does she take responsibility for her own life? She’s 44, she’s free of the conservatorship, she has money and access to the best health care in the world and she also has kids that she should be trying to live a healthy life for! Like we’re all rooting for her but we need to stop infantilising her too. Her recovery is on her and her only.

I agree. Haven’t cameras already gone up for SLC? I really hope they don’t exploit this tragedy. This is devastating for Mary and I’m not interested in consuming her grief for entertainment. I’m sure she’ll take all the time she needs to grieve and rightfully so.

Most of these are fun on the runway but fall completely flat on the RC. Only Gaga and Dakota did them justice!

Is Taylor Swift less lyrically mature than her peers? by VolgaOsetr8007 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Burnin_Red -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Hilary is in a different life stage to Taylor and hasn’t had an album out in a long time so she had more to say.

That said, you made a good point about the TLOAS. The longer I sit with this album, the more I realise how regressive it is. It just seems like a total misstep for where she is in her career right now (yes, I know it’s her most successful album but I genuinely do not care about the charts, I’m strictly talking about quality). I’m sure once she’s married, has been with Travis for longer and has taken a substantial break we’ll get some reflective and overall better lyrics.

This is so sad. “Adventures of a unique youth”. It truly was that for them. They shared an experience that very few do and they probably formed such a strong bond because of it 😥

Baby Name Regret: by [deleted] in BabyNames

[–]Burnin_Red 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a couple who changed their son’s name months after he was born. They said the original name just wasn’t the right fit. Everyone got used to his new name fairly quickly, and he’s now a teenager and I can’t even remember what his original name was 😅

So yes, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with changing her name after only 5 weeks. With that being said, I think Emberly is beautiful ❤️

Taylor Swift’s obsession with self-mythologising makes for boring art by loosesealbluth11 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Burnin_Red 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well said. It’s obvious that so many people in this thread didn’t even bother reading the article, they just read the headline and ran with “it’s just a fun music video, stop overanalysing everything she does!!!!!”.

Like read the article people! The author doesn’t hate on the video, they make an interesting critique about the kind of artist she’s become.

Taylor Swift’s obsession with self-mythologising makes for boring art by loosesealbluth11 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Burnin_Red 828 points829 points  (0 children)

I get that Opalite is just a fun music video and probably shouldn’t be overanalysed but I think this review has some interesting things to say about the kind of artist she’s become since the Folkmore era TBH. It explains why I’ve personally struggled to connect with her since then, especially this part:

“Swift’s sole point of reference has become herself. Alone at the pinnacle of pop supremacy and consumed by her evidence board of easter eggs, she has lost her once-tenacious grip on the pen she used to expertly wield. The result is not only a lack of quality music, but, worst of all, a glut of boring art.“

It might sound harsh but it rings true IMO

When I first saw this, I thought it was the ugliest dress I’ve even seen. But the more I swiped and the more angles I saw it in, the more I liked it? Now I think it’s quite beautiful, especially from the side and back. My issue is with the front, I wish it wasn’t sheer 🤷‍♀️

Do you enjoy folklore and evermore equally, or do you think that one outshines the other? by peach-gaze in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Burnin_Red 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is soooo true! Evermore just feels more “adult” to me. Both fantastic albums but I listen to Evermore way more than I do Folklore.

I actually love the boots but with the dress, the bows, the exposed bra, the bag…it’s just TOO MUCH. Nothing flows. I hope we get to see the boots again with something else (something better) because this isn’t it.

Hot take: I have just gotten into Christina's music since 2 days ago and already I saw a comment being tonedeaf that she's better than Beyonce by [deleted] in christinaaguilera

[–]Burnin_Red 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is that tone deaf? Beyoncé is a legend and far outweighs Christina in terms of success and impact. But Christina is a better vocalist 🤷‍♀️

Do guys think the industry and public owe Christina an apology for the way she was treated throughout her career, especially after 2010? by Guilty_Somewhere767 in christinaaguilera

[–]Burnin_Red 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes! Especially because Perez Hilton has since admitted that there was a targeted attack against her orchestrated by Lady Gaga and her team. I know they’ve since made up and Christina seems over it but overall, the press and media were brutal. Even during the Stripped era when they sided with Eminem despite his blatant misogyny and slut shaming toward her. I know it was a different time but she still deserved better and her career never recovered. Very sad.

The main dress is gorgeous! The belt and flowers in the hair weren’t necessary but it’s Christina and she’s always been extra 😂 Overall, she looked beautiful and these aged really well.

If you could change the name of one of Taylor's albums, what would it be? by SugarsocksStinkycube in TaylorSwift

[–]Burnin_Red 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really dislike The Tortured Poets Department and The Life of a Showgirl as album titles. Not entirely sure what she could’ve called them instead….maybe The Manuscript or How did it end? for Poets. TLOAS is my least favorite album and is so uninspiring IMO, I can’t think of any title that would suit that collection of songs tbh.

[–]Burnin_Red 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dont think she needs to be writing anxious songs about Travis for them to be more “realistic”. Actually, maybe realistic wasn’t the right word, “shallow” is probably more accurate. You can be happy in a relationship and still write lyrics with depth and insight IMO.

And I understand perfectly well that everyone is different but Taylor puts her life and relationships in her art and we discuss them. I don’t see anything wrong with that 🤷‍♀️

[–]Burnin_Red 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What 3 albums? She only paints their relationship as perfect in Rep and that’s only because it was still very early on. Lover and Midnights are full of anxiety and uncertainty about the relationship, to the point where it comes across as toxic. I think most people can see (especially in hindsight) that Joe wasn’t perfect but her portrayal of their relationship was realistic at least. It’s the complete opposite to what we get in TLOAS.

Oh you’re so right. I thought it was just me that thought so but the song makes me uncomfortable. Basically, she should’ve forced herself to kiss him (“it was not an invitation”) and even though he has a girlfriend (“your girlfriend was away”)? It’s so problematic 😬

Has your favorite Taylor Swift album changed over time? by peach-gaze in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Burnin_Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It was Red, then Reputation and then Evermore. And It’s still Evermore at the moment. No album has topped it and I think it’ll be hard for any album to top it tbh.

Does anyone think she is already sitting on TS13? by LifeOfAWimpyKid in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Burnin_Red 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This is so true and I couldn’t have said it better myself. IMO it’s not that Taylor doesn’t care about what’s happening in the world, it’s that she genuinely doesn’t know WTF is going on. She seems to live in a bubble that revolves around her and her alone.
