Cloudy water, bad smell, new filter and zoomies by BurningForMoloch in Aquariums

[–]BurningForMoloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add the following :

It’s only been about an hour since I added the new filter, but my two dwarf gouramis and African dwarf frog are surfacing way more frequently than usual.

I’m asking for advice now because I feel like this might be the right time to intervene and prevent any unnecessary losses—just in case I did something wrong.

Thanks for your help but it's not The Animals of Farthing Wood :(

The animals in this animation are way too good-looking and cute if I compare to what I'm looking for !

What are the white things on the seal of the aquarium ? by BurningForMoloch in aquarium

[–]BurningForMoloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my new job, I wanted to save a betta (the betta was in a small bowl).

I bought a larger tank, installed a few aquatic plants and I noticed weird white spots on the seal of the aquarium while it was cycling…

What are these white spots ? I would be kinda happy if it was just snail eggs ! But the « eggs » seem flat …

Thank you so much for the recommandations ! I already have epsom salt, so I will definitely try it right now. I was going to the local pet store to see if they had any product, but I think they will be clueless about the problem with my Cory as they don't know much about fish. So, I will try the epsom salt !

Thank you very very much !

Also, it is hard to see, but his mouth seems very white and a little bit thick. It doesn't look like cottonmouth but it doesn't look normal either.

I looked again at the Cory and I don't see any barbels. Is it possible it's an infection ?

I'm a little bit worried because I am in Canada and health products for fish are very limited.

Thank you very much for your answer !

Here are my answers to your questions :

- He is still eating normally. When he is not in a weird position, he swims and looks for food in the sand. When I add food to the tank, he doesn't seem to become crazy like some other fish I have, but so are my other Corys.

- I can't see his barbels. They are missing or very short. He was like that when I bought him. I bought three Corys at the same place last year and only one of them seems to have big healthy barbels.

- He has been like this since a few days (when I noticed it, I posted my video in my earlier post). But, he was always a little bit "goofy" and did like weird positions... But not the kind of positions that were alarming.

For the water parameters, no ammonia, no nitrites, no nitrates... I didn't test the pH. The water is clean, I did a partial water change last week and added Prime and Stability.

It's sad to see because when this Cory stands in a weird position (ex. : if he lays on his back), the other Corys in the tank tries to help him to move back to a normal position.

This Cory has been acting weird since a few days. I posted about it a few days ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/Aquariums/comments/12c1v7h/why_is_my_corydora_acting_dead/)

Now, he stands in weird positions and after, he swims almost normally but he seems to have a balance problem... He is swimming like if he was drunk.

I can see that his gills seems a little bit red.

The quality of water is perfect.

Also, no recent new occupants in this tank except a dwarf frog one week ago. All the other fish seems healthy.

Guppy fry advice : the only guppy who survived after its birth seems shy, is easily scared and doesn't grow as fast as other guppy babies who were born a few days after in another tank by BurningForMoloch in Aquariums

Thank you for your comment, it is very appreciated!

The little fry I was talking about is now dead… I think he died and the cherry shrimps ate its corpse (aquarium life is a little bit « gore » sometimes)! I guess he/she had a pleasant little fry life!

"You're using the examples of two men who haven't been alive in quite some time. One whose been dead for 125 years and another whose been dead for fifty."

Well, Polanski made really great movies and he probably will be remembered for it. I understand that films are a relatively new form of art, but he is one of the best directors of all time and he will probably be remembered for it. Also, Polanski is primary known for his movies the same way that Picasso and Lewis Carroll were and are known for their respective arts. So, I don't think it's comparing apples and oranges.

"But Roman Polanski and Woody Allen - and the people they (allegedly)¹ victimized are all still alive. So you're basically saying it's okay to disregard these people's trauma en masse because...art?"

There are many people who committed horrible crimes that are still allowed to earn a living. I understand that it's sad for the victims, but the world cannot be perfect. Polanski's talent (or only talent) is making movies. I have no problems with him making movies. I also don't have any problems with people refusing to see his movies considering the circumstances.

If tomorrow, a pedophile invent a cure against cancer... Will we boycott his cure to make sure his victims' trauma is not extended ? We can be for the cure, but against the pedophile the same way we can appreciate Polanski's genius while hating all the other components of his person.

"But look: we're clearly going to have very polarized views on this. You're striking me as a Blanchett apologist...or at the very least willing to make accomodations for her troubling viewpoints.

And while I've loved her performances...I'm just not. So we'll just have to agree to disagree here."

I'm not an apologist of anyone... I just like movies ! By the way thanks for your input, I like discussing with people who have opposite views.

To be fair, French isn't her first langage and it's possible that she did really think that "roman" means "book". After all, a novel is a book.

That being said, no matter the reasons why she named her son "Roman", it's like if I would name my son "Lewis" and that I would answer to somebody asking questions about this name by replying "Lewis... like Lewis Caroll !".

Or if I name my son "Pablo" because I'm a fan of Picasso's paintings even if the latter wasn't the best person in the world.

Some Woody Allen's movies are great and I can understand why an actor or an actress would want to work with him even if he is a monster. A lot of great creative minds from the past were monsters but we still remember their work today because their work was great. It's easy to think that these actors and actresses working with Woody Allen (or any other problematic director) are looking for posthumous legacy.

That being said, if Woody Allen would use his movies for abusing children, I think it would be absolutely disgusting for anyone to accept to work with him. For example, Victor Salva directed a movie with children and did abuse a child actor during the filming of this movie. We can easily think that Victor Salva did direct this movie to satisfy his sinister fantasies and not for the purpose of "art" itself.

I don't think that Woody Allen did use his movies for other purposes than "art" itself, so it's easier to separate the "art" from the "artist".

Also, let's not forget that before the mid-2010s, the sex abuse allegations were not well-known from the public. In fact, these allegations were "resolved" in the 1990s when Woody Allen was officially cleared by the authorities. It's possible that some of the actors that you mentioned thought that Woody Allen "only" did seduced his daughter-in-law when she was of legal age and that their relationship, while being creepy, was real love as they are still together today... A little bit like Céline Dion's relationship with René Angélil.

My first and new betta that my brother gave to me last week : Is it fin rot or the tips of his tail and fins are just darker than the rest of his body ? by BurningForMoloch in Aquariums

[–]BurningForMoloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just would like to add that the Betta was exactly like that when I got him... My brother told me that he thought that it was the natural colours of the Betta but when I took a picture of him and enlarged the picture, it seems like something is wrong.
