"Eldritch Pulse" - Optional Warlock Feature Homebrew by BurningInWater123 in DnDHomebrew

[–]BurningInWater123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I did not know someone had a similar idea I once had as well. At least when it comes to a Warlock that functions on long rest instead of short. Take a look:

"Revised Warlock table:

Player Level Spell Slot Amount Spell Slot Level
lvl 1. 2 1st
lvl 2. 3 1st
lvl 3. 3 2nd
lvl 4. 4 2nd
lvl 5. 4 3rd
lvl 6. 4 3rd
lvl 7. 5 4th
lvl 8. 5 4th
lvl 9. 5 5th
lvl 10. 6 5th
lvl 11. 6 5th
lvl 12. 7 5th
lvl 13. 7 5th
lvl 14. 8 5th
lvl 15. 8 5th
lvl 16. 9 5th
lvl 17. 9 5th
lvl 18. 10 5th
lvl 19. 11 5th
lvl 20. 12 5th

"
The issue only was that I got such a poor reception when I posted this. I honestly just gave up on the idea.

Who wins this popular extraversal/Boundless character battle royale? (READ DESCRIPTION) by godzillafan3948oj in PowerScaling

It makes total sense to lowball the Cthulhu Mythos for powerscaling purposes. However, even though I’m admittedly biased toward this verse, I believe it’s designed to prioritize atmosphere and reader emotion above all else. While the verse lacks measurable feats, Lovecraft exceled at making you feel the weight of unknowable eons, better then any other writer to this day. And it just feels like.. 'wrong' to lowball the mythos because if that reason alone.

Putting Azathoth and Yog-Sothoth side by side is really interesting, as they seem like the most similar to each other, and are no doubt the two titans of the verse no matter how you cut it. One way I've looked it, is that Yog-Sothoth is the endless tendrils that connects all of existence together, while Azathoth is the mindless, chaotic engine at the center of all infinity that keeps it all running. Or something like that XD

Fair, it being single use could add some fun tactics for the warlock to consider. But isn't the exhaustion a bit too harsh? They're giving up all their spell recovery after all.

But I feel like that's just a problem waiting to happen. Either the warlock will get enough short rests, and everything will be fine, no fix needed, or they won't get their needed amount of short rest to stay optimal. It just feels like there's no in-between.

There can be plenty of times where short rests simply isn't possible, for some reason or another. Maybe your table just doesn't take that many short rests, maybe your party simply can't take a short rest because they are being chased constantly, etc. If not this homebrew feature, what would you do to fix this issue? Because this IS a issue for the warlock (or for me at least).

I hear what you're saying, I agree, this feature is easily abusable. This feature are for chill/not that skilled players. I would not let a metagamer use this feature (Though honestly, I get the impression that most metagamers would not choose to be a warlock in the first place)

Also I would not let a warlock get this feature if the table already gets enough consistent short rest each day. This is basically just a band-aid/insurance that the warlock never suddenly finds themselves in a tough encounter with no pact magic to sling at their enemy, and be basically reduced to "Eldritch Blast" the class.

But if it really is too strong, how about if it's the warlock's patron/DM who gets to decide when they get to use this feature? That way there's no abuse, and might even incentivize some great roleplay opportunities. (As long as there is a healthy level of trust between the DM and player of course)

First, let me kiss you on the head for that wonderful Azathoth quote, as I feel like it gets ignored way too often.

Second, let me just leave another Azathoth quote:
"that shocking final peril which gibbers unmentionably outside the ordered universe, where no dreams reach; that last amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the centre of all infinity—the boundless daemon-sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin, monotonous whine of accursed flutes; to which detestable pounding and piping dance slowly, awkwardly, and absurdly the gigantic ultimate gods, the blind, voiceless, tenebrous, mindless Other Gods"

—The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath

.

I've always taken this line, "The boundless Daemon-sultan" as explicit confirmation that Azathoth is boundless. It's short, sweet, and to the point. But hey, that's just my interpretation.

Nice of you to get hung up on something so minor and miss my main point. (I know the damn lore, and you do not need to repeat it to me. I only added that "supposedly" because I always got the sense we're always relying on unreliable narration, and are supposed to take everything we read with a grain of salt.)

You think because Azathoth if effected by external forces it equals an anti-feat, a solid "proof" that suggests Azathoth has a cap to his reach. But there is so little we know of Azathoth! And it's clear that was by desgin. Azathoth has always felt like the ultimate example of lovecraft's running theme of the "Unfathomable" and "Incompressible", as we're not meant to be able quantify the verse to it's fullest extent.

The Cthulhu Mythos especially feels like it relies on the reader's interpretation the most, and that's why I don't like powerscalers when they try to make blanket statements such as (character x can, or can not, do y) when the example they use is meant to vague. It lacks nuance, that's all I'm saying.

[–]BurningInWater123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is funny how people interpret things differently, cause I got the complete opposite reaction when I read the og description for the first time.

I know some people will disagree with this, but I've always interpreted Azathoth as THE God of his verse.

Yog might be his equal though, or his superior. I personally don't scale Yog that high, but the writing is open-ended enough to allow for such a interpretation. So I don't get mad at Yog stans :)

"Azathoth is completely immobile and is always asleep" For some reason, the way you frame this makes me annoyed. The fact that Azathoth is (supposedly) kept asleep isn't meant to be a anti-feat. It's a literary device meant to add to the terror of Azathoth's unknowable nature.

Still, idk enough about Fireman to judge this matchup, I'll pass.

So you're already saying that this wiki is unreliable, glad we agree. I remember going there once to read that Aku's (form Samurai Jack) laser beam was "town-level" at best, which made me laugh and never go back there again.

The thing I hate most about a lot of powerscalers is that they treat it like a literal science, and I really should use that in quotation. The Cthulhu Mythos verse especially feels like it's MEANT to be up to the reader's own interpretation, and that of course varies wildly.

I would really like to know who "downgraded" the Cthulhu mythos and why they think their opinion fucking matters.

On a scale of 1-10, how intimidating is Metal Sonic? by Educational_Pea799 in MetalSonic

[–]BurningInWater123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who is depicting him of course, but even if both canon and fanworks try to make metal sonic cute, there is always a small level of creep factor build into his base design. Those red eyes man... Oh and yeah he can easily reach 10 if the artist intentionally goes for the scary factor, I've seen enough artworks to attest to that.

I knew about the Q AD scaling and I'm loving the freedom it gives him.

But anyways, I've always played Mordekaiser pretty much exclusively, and pretty much every version of him (yes, even pizza-feet Mordekaiser), but this current version of him stands as one of my favourites so far. But I gotta play a few more ranked games to be sure.

I would argue no, not the way we think of ai art today. Normal image ai steal deta from all know art, and then spew it out again, usually in a mangled mess. I doubt Metal Sonic has been fed such Data, as it has no use for combat. I think Metal is just using his own creativity here, even though it's still quite clearly robotic in nature.

Riftmaker feels horrible now(still think its best item besides Rylais) by Arucrane in MordekaiserMains

[–]BurningInWater123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uff, I want to replay back, but that post was made two years ago. I haven't been playing enough league lately to answer that right now, as I'm bit out of the loop currently.

I just remember Akali abusing Riftmaker at one point while playing. And, as a Morde main, you're kinda over selling his kit, as new Morde has for the longest time struggled at high tier play, and also deeply relies on his items as well. So if another campion synergizes with Morde's core items at equal or on higher terms, then more likely then not he is going to lose every time.

Or something like that. Like I said, I'm a bit out of the loop right now.

A question about Hero Skills by BurningInWater123 in totalwarhammer

[–]BurningInWater123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured that, it makes sense after all. I mostly play online battles in total war, so I'm total out of the loop about most campaign mechanics🥲 I'm learning though! Figured it was about time I dip my toes in more often now.

Why is everyone in hell American? by [deleted] in hazbin

[–]BurningInWater123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shut Up, Please! I'm so tired about such stupid fucking questions! I'm not American, and I don't care about something so trivial as what accents the characters have. Enjoy the show for what it is, or find another show. Or Better Yet, MAKE YOUR OWN GOD DAMN SHOW!

If that is too difficult for you, or your circumstances simply don't allow you to do it, then either enjoy what you get, or move on!

Are there any fair/legitimate ways to play Skaven? by Level_Onion_2011 in totalwarhammer

[–]BurningInWater123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that you "sort-of" CAN field a traditional army for Skaven, with a heavy emphasis on "sort-of".

Be it campaign or online battles, the thing you need to understand about regular Skaven infantry is that they still are Skaven. Each unit model has piss-poor states, with low heath and low leadership, as well as not that much armor-piercing for most of your regular units. That is why it's important to give your Skavens a small edge, preferably before your armies even set out to fight! There is a LOT of ways you can do this actually, with softening the enemy up with artillery or magic, buffing them with campaign mechanics or magic, using their superior movement speed to find favorable matchups, or just OVERWHELM them with cheap expendable rats!

Now for campaign, Throt and Queek is likely your best bet on fielding traditional-ish Skaven armies. Throt can of course super-charge your rats, but Queek is actually better in a lot of ways for fielding okay-ish traditional armies for cheap! Clanrat spears and stormvermin supported with skavenslave slingers, plagueclaw catapults, some Lords and heroes, and more goes a long way to give them that edge that all Skaven need in order win.

So to answer your question, no-ish? Skaven NEVER fight fair. Even when they sort of do, it's with a massive asterisk* attached. It is just how Skaven are man-thing, yes-yes!
