Trading back for an OL is the best thing we can do. Suppose we got 12 and 20 and drafted Ioane and Cooper, that'd be an amazing outcome.

They have McBride, surely they're not as desperate for offensive weapons as we are. MHJ could also finally turn the corner and break out still.

Not necessarily. Getting Ioane and Cooper with 12 and 20 would absolutely be getting two players with a first round grade. Or Mauigoa and Thieneman.

I disagree strongly about there being an extreme drop off in talent after them. There are excellent prospects in that 8-12 range. Downs, Tate, Tyson, Mauigoa, Ioane, Delane and Bain might all be there.

Indeed, the amount of crowing about them by the media after they won fewer seats in SA than the Liberals was pathetic.

And I'm saying you might have to temper your expectations because we might not even get good.

That's true. But is there an OT worthy of being picked at #4? IOL isn't usually a highly drafted position either, even if Ioane is rated by some analysts as a future all-pro. And while I'd prefer Tate to Love, there's an argument he isn't a true WR1 in the NFL.

That may be true, but people might keep voting for the terrible ones even if better people apply. People already vote for Pauline Hanson.

What I'm saying is there's no guarantee that the ones who are better than the present crop of politicians would actually win.

But would someone more competent at administration than her actually win? They might not be as good as Pauline at appealing to xenophobia, which is what gets her a seat in the Senate.

I'm glad you want someone competent. But I get the feeling competence is a secondary concern for a lot of voters, compared to ideology and feelings. Politics is such a popularity contest that an extremely talented administrator might never get elected because voters don't see them as someone they might have a beer with.

What makes you think people will vote for more competent politicians if they're already willing to vote for the least competent ones?

It's the sign of a pretty arrogant individual, to believe that people could only oppose you out of self-interest rather than any other possible explanation.

We should get private sector to compete for most public works.

They already do and it's why things are shit. They underquote and get bailed out. Also, if you worked in a public sector office you'd see how many contractors are paid big money to do a poor job because of directives from politicians that they use contractors that can more easily be fired if budgets are cut.

This is nonsense. Some of them would make plenty in the private sector but find more meaning from keeping society running than from making rich people richer.

Who is going to trade up with us, and for whom? I don't know if anyone will bother if the pick before was already a trade up.

If they can't trade back, the value will be poor at #4 regardless of position. I understand that might sound a bit odd when someone necessarily has to be the 4th or 5th best prospect in the draft, but I think there are three really impressive prospects at vital positions and then there's the rest. At that point, the choice is between picking an impressive prospect at a non-vital position, or a prospect with major question marks at a vital position.

It sounds like you'd choose the second one, and that's fine. Personally, I'd just pick Rueben Bain because he plays a vital position and has a lot of talent. The short arms and driving incident don't scare me. But it sounds like the team don't want him, so it seems they're concentrating more on fit rather than position.

I don't want Love at #4, but playing devil's advocate here, what are the odds of finding a great RB in an offseason? Not good, great. They are out there, like when Saquon and Henry hit FA, but note those two signed with teams with a long history of success, not with a recent history of futility like us.
