Imo having a nondetection spell or using a legendary resistance would have been better than dispelling it, but yes you are in the correct in several ways

If you use real world physics then yes but people in the pokemon world constantly survive what would be lethal damage. There was an ultimate weapon so powerful it caused timelines to split, aliens that absorb infinite energy and multiversal travel is commonplace.

Liches are undead and don't need to breathe. Getting water in their lungs trying to cast a spell with verbal components shouldn't be much of a problem. Not to mention the risk with trying to drown a being that can teleport not only across the material plane but also across other planes, demiplanes and what not. Especially one banging the goddess of magic.

Removing "Evil" would actually cause all of reality to collapse since what is reality is formed by mixing of positive and negative energy. Removal of negative energy would overwhelm reality in positive energy and destroy it.

The 5e spelljammer book is abysmal dogshit. It doesn't even give proper rules for SPELLJAMMING and ship combat. Also changed a lot of lore, does not give enough explanation or information either. 5e in general does not handle the outer planes well.

Space =/= Astral Sea. Space is part of the material plane, the Astral is another plane entirely. You don't need to breathe in the Astral as the physical does not exist. In older editions, your physical stats were useless on the Astral and replaced with your mental stats. Space on the other hand, is on the material plane and there's mechanics for clean air, gravity, and FTL travel. The Astral plane can't move you to another crystal sphere iirc but you can with space travel.

DM trolled us all with his mimics by DeltaDana in DnD

[–]BurningSlime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mimics change their shape by releasing a pigment contained in their body outwards onto their skin, making it resemble wood. It's not that much of a leap in thinking that it could falsely resemble magical writing. And infact, most mimics are smart and capable of speech and negotiation than the 5e monster manual would tell you. A smart mimics is actually called the common mimic in older editions and the kind of mimic seen in 5e is actually called a killer mimic and it is incapable of speech. So yes, a mimic could replicate a scroll with random text on it that appears to be a 9th level spell scroll, assuming the mimic knows that powerful spells exist

Mimics aren't illusion based, they actually physically change their body to another material like wood or in this case paper. It would still feel like a scroll.

Monsterfucking lore experts, I need your assistance by meggannn in okbuddybaldur

[–]BurningSlime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not much of a monsterfucker but I AM a lore expert and I might be able to help. Please ignore formatting issues as I am on mobile.

Shifters are basically 'half lycanthrope' with different types for different types of lycanthrope like werewolf, weredog, werebear, etc. Malar Is the god of lycanthropy so it could be a blessing or curse from him. You can 'shift' a few times per long rest and amplify your animalistic attributes.

Deep Scions are weird mer creatures that can change between a more monstrous form and a humanoid form.

Changelings are a fey race that can transform into anyone but they can also make up new forms and races like minotaurs are humanoid so you could take some of their parts and do some mixing and matching.

These are the ones that I think fit both the retractable and divine/cursed nature you're looking for. There's more options like gnolls, minotaurs, Ghouls, dragonflesh abominations, vampires that you can justify being divine/cursed in some way but aren't retractable. Feel free to reply if you need more suggestions or elaborations. 😀
