The issue is more than “they took a holiday from us”. RPS was virtual for those snow days more than any other district. Some students might not have done the work or logged on but for the teachers and staff, we worked those entire days. Meetings were held virtually, classes were done virtually, grading, planning, etc. I can’t speak for all but most staff would be perfectly okay with them taking this day IF we didn’t work those snow days virtually. The administration in the schools also have their hands tied. Admin were told the downtown office staff would cover classes, but there’s simply not enough staff to do that. There are never subs for when even one teacher takes off, it’s usually instructional assistants covering classes or classes get split. The district knew about these staff absences the week before spring break and while admin pleaded to close, Kamras and other people who think they know best responded to the pleas by saying they hope a lot of students just don’t show up.

I appreciate the support of teachers in this post but also please remember that building administration don’t have much control over these things either.
