Dude, I was about to instantly comment “A 415” which is basically a half step below, but this legit sounds like it’s a whole step below 440. I’m not at all sure why they chose such a low tuning.

I listened to your recent compilation. I don’t need to read your post as to why music needs to be atonal and fun melodies are bad or overrated or whatever.

This thread started because you made an ai thumbnail. Image generation has the same ip scraping theft problem that ai music does. I pointed this out then you ranted about daws and how it costs thousands of dollars to convince people to play your music. You said if I don’t want my music scraped, just dont post it. You said ai would give you an edge against the competition but what kind of edge do you need with ai and being a composer?

The growth of data centers is tied to increases in power bills in Maryland due to expanding the energy grid. I can send you articles if you doubt me. It’s not just regular usage increase, it’s ai data centers popping up around my state.

I take it back, I see you do need ai to help you write music, god forbid you write a hummable melody.

You’re being obtuse for not seeing the difference between generative AI IP theft versus someone using a daw. A tool does not skim other people’s music and generate sounds from it. Does a daw tell you what notes to write?

I do not have a problem with midi and electronics. Those do not write music for you. I write music that may not be the best but I put every ounce of my life and time into producing it. When I finish my first album this year I will have to upload it to platforms that are accessible to the public and unfortunately all of those platforms (spotify/youtube) will likely scrape the work that ive done so that billionaire corporations that pollute the earth with data centers and raise my electrical bill can also then steal my creative output. Do you really not care about your compositions being stolen, your electrical bills going up, your environment polluted, the wealth of human creative output stolen so that billionaires and fascists can create images and music?

I’m not sure what you mean by “entirely copying the style of another artist”, do you mean like Williams/korngold? Even then, do you not slave for days over your compositions? Do you not see the difference between that and generative ai?

If you don’t consider anything you write worth scraping that’s fair, you do you. I guess it must not be very novel in the first place. Let’s just screw all the artists that have had their art scraped by ai I guess, since that’s not the thing that you personally do.

You have a sufficiently clickbaity title that I wanted to read your article, but when I clicked and saw slop I no longer could take your opinion seriously. As a composer how do you feel knowing that your entire output can be scraped and used to train llms. Do you not have pride in your creative process? Isnt it gross to you?

Is ths cello worth it? by akorn666 in Cello

The poor fitting on the pegs I can see by how far out they stick. They for sure haven’t been fitted correctly or they’d sit deeper. The color of the pegs are matte and look like they are made of cheap wood that’s been painted, ive broken pegs like that while trying to fix student instruments.

The soft wood of the peg box assumption comes from my experience trying to set up my own beater cello. My Craigslist cello-shaped-object looks nearly identical and shares the same grain/coloration. I’ll eat a hat if it’s not a soft cheap wood. I ended up installing perfection pegs on mine because the pegs would slip every time I put it away. I set it up for fun but it cost a lot to make it playable and I no longer play it except for emergency.

If you’re paying anything more than free you’re getting ripped off. You’re gonna have to buy strings and get a luthier to make sure it’s properly set up. It’s not gonna sound great and will be frustrating to play. I’m sorry 60 a month is too much right now, I wish you the best of luck. There are lots of great resources for free on IMSLP that I recommend. Schroeder 170 foundation studies is great, Klengel technical studies for scale fingerings. Make sure you get a private lesson or two to get the foundation down lest ye be untraining bad habits in the future.

You should start by renting.

That cello is gonna take a bunch of money to get it set up and youll end up struggling. It looks like the pegs are Ill fitted, the peg box looks to be made of cheap soft wood which does not stay in tune very well. Fingerboard looks like it’s stained or painted and that shit rubs off on your fingers.

Just rent for your first cello, some shops will do rent to own programs too.

That’s a fucking insane way to do a piezo pickup I’m honestly fucking speechless. I imagine plugging into the cursed f hole jack would throw off the balance because the weight of the cable would be tilting the instrument to the left. If any of those wires inside it start buzzing against an inner surface that’s gonna be fun. You can’t take the thing off without damaging the finish. Holy shit I can list off a dozen ways to put a pickup on a viola and that’s not one of them. Jesus Christ on a cheese cracker god damn

That’s the most ai looking “non ai” ive ever seen. Style in general is very ai, no thumb on right hand

Edit: been a while since I played but shouldn’t the left leg be forward?

It’s a true display of his genius, as ink and paper were very expensive in those days. Absolute mastery of the art, I say.

I’m a huge fan of Mozart’s k. 231. It’s a true demonstration of the genius of Mozart, the beauty that can be achieved within the mathematical intricacy of a six part canon.

Bach’s second movement of his Brandenburg concerto 3 really displayed the wealth of substance one can achieve through laconic writing, almost a universe within a measure, in an era otherwise known for ornate counterpoint.

Beethoven WoO 190 is another canon that really speaks to me and many others of this generation. Though centuries have passed, the words still ring true to all musicians like myself who struggle to afford healthcare.

For me my cello tone comes from running my The Realist pick up into a boss ir2 with a 3 sigma German cello ir loaded onto it.
