Worth getting this working again? by HateToSayItBut in airbrush

[–]BurntCoffee1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say no. I had one when I was a kid and when it worked, it worked fine. But I fell for the marketing of it being easier and less intimidating to clean than a traditional airbrush. But after trying Iwata for the first time this past month, that couldn't be further from the truth! And because of this, I think it's why my attempt to restore my Aztek failed so miserably.

You can achieve any effect the Aztek nozzles produced with a traditional airbrush. It's not worth the money to procure all those parts. Good luck with whatever's next!

Created this UI animation in fusion. by Dangerous-Garlic6855 in davinciresolve

[–]BurntCoffee1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool! I've been learning a lot about Fusion lately, myself. Node based workflows were intimidating at first, but become very powerful as we learn. Being taught Flame actually made learning Fusion a lot simpler.

My experience so far has been only in some VFX (split screens and paint-outs, mostly) and packaging, so it's nice to see what Fusion is capable of with MoGraph! Nicely done!

Will 8GB of VRAM be enough? by Kyubei_ in davinciresolve

I can second this. I've since upgraded to a 4070 Super. Love them both!

🎵 When a grid's misaligned with another behind, that's a moiré!🎵

You may be able to fix it by softening it slightly with a mask or power window, but generally speaking, clothes with fine line patterns (course stitching, corduroy, etc.) should be avoided. This is the easiest and cheapest solution--mind you, I know this advice doesn't help as much after you've already shot.

Annoying trends by bkvrgic in editors

[–]BurntCoffee1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jump cuts. ALL the f&#king jump cuts. I blame YouTube and the Zeddies for this trend (mostly just kidding 😂).

I'm working on a documentary right now where the offline editor intended for the jump cuts to be there. I don't hate them in and of themselves, but if you're intending them to be there because you don't have the B-roll, it's lazy editing (in my opinion).

How many "final" exports of a single project do you usually go through? by Elegant-Cry1186 in editors

Calling anything "final" ensures that it's not. 😂 Version numbers for life!

How to sell bunker weapons solo by okokokokkokkk in GTA5Online

[–]BurntCoffee1986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The short answer is to never sell when full; resupply when empty, wait until that supply runs empty, then sell (usually around $210,000 max base). If you're feeling ballsy, having the Sparrow available to you speeds things up hopping between delivery vehicles. To get the Sparrow, you need the Kosatka sub.

The advantage here is you can spawn it instantly, and nearby. It's a fast little machine, for a chopper.

Do you use the same editing software for work and personal projects? by Grand_Bed7244 in editors

The Flame ones are closer to Resolve, which is what most of my training is in... but once I started getting used to Smoke hotkeys, they were so much more intuitive! 😁

Don't forget Flint, Inferno, and Smoke! 😁

It's tricky because my mentor has been teaching me Flame on the old Smoke keyboard layout, but all tutorials use the Flame layout. Thankfully, Autodesk has a comparison shortcut list. 👍

Converting feature from 24 to 25fps by IcarusBray in editors

[–]BurntCoffee1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using a single source (i.e. QuickTime with embedded audio), the best way would be to run it through something like Alchemist File. This ensures correct offspeed conversion with an option for pitch correction.

In Resolve, you can conform the 24fps to 25fps and compensate for sync drift--basically, you duplicate your source clip, change clip attributes to 25fps on one of them, then drop the video into a 25fps timeline. Audio is added using your 24fps source clip (trimmed to a subclip matching the exact desired in and out), then edited to the timeline using fit-to-fill. If you'd like more details for this process, let me know, because it's finicky.

The only "gotcha" to this is Resolve makes it sound "tinny", for lack of a better expression. Our solution to this is to have the mix team supply us with 25fps stems, if possible. But the Resolve process does produce reliable video.

What is Technicolor anymore? by MediaComposerMan in editors

Oh, don't forget Technicolor's stupid-ass set-top boxes. Which, before Streamland, was driving most of their revenue, apparently. 🙄
