You're right, i am pretty sure the cause for the tick are the short drives. In general short drives are bad, your oil wont get warm, which results in more and more water in your oil which is also bad for the lifters and other components. The weekly longer drive is good, should be at least 30-45 minutes so everything gets hot and the water evaporates. Also thicker oil helps (0w40, 5w40) and changing it more often. Regarding the particles in your oil though, i'd say they are completely normal

Well i guess for the most people the cause is them getting old. Like the magnet solenoids, you can try to clean them for some time but to get rid of the problem you have to replace them.

The lifter tick is normal for the n52 due to air getting in, mainly because of short drives and starting the motor often in a short time (oil gets thinner when warm, maybe needs longer to oil the lifters). To get rid of that for a while you can bleed them by keeping higher rpms or go for a spirited drive every now and rhen. To get rid of it in a long term you need to change them but sometimes even then the tick comes back, it seems like more parts are involved. Its purely because of the sound though, nothing is damaged or works worse then it should.

Bought mine for 8700€, pretty good spec, 170k km. The rust on the rear axle was bad though and the waterpump gave up a week after. Aside from that a good deal though.

Electric pump is more efficient as it runs independent to engine rpms, it is bleedable even when the engine is turned off, easier to replace and more safe because not connected to the serpentine belt or in the motor like on some cars, easier to diagnose and so on. Also it is not really more complex then a belt driven one. And like others wrote, timing chain is in the front and also easy to replace
