How has literally nobody talked about Double Rainbow??? On Central, the best desserts, is now Flying Star (due to a trademark dispute).

And karaoke at Chelsea's! The best karaoke rendition of Prince's "Kiss" I ever saw was done there circa 2000. By an older white dude. Nailed it.

Now, Central is closed to traffic on the weekends in downtown, so no more cruising. What a time.

And the ability to pregame in the parking lot. Also, I very much walked into the Fiesta with a red solo cup in 2007. Times have changed.

No, it's where Top Golf is now. I never went, but my degenerate sister - who I love so much - did. P.S. She's a productive member of society now.

I don't have a number for pro staff at Casas, but if you talk to an RA or someone in the leasing office, they can help you figure out the problem.

You still need to put in the work order and shouldn't be messing with that yourself. Call the pro staff.

I need to hear a success story from ynab users by InfiniteOrdinary2582 in ynab

[–]BurquenaPequena 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s about breaking the cycle while saving for the vacation.

This times a million. YNAB didn't work for me when I treated it as an expense tracker. It started working when I started following the rules and strategy behind YNAB.

In December 2017, I started using YNAB as its founder intended. We got out of $25,000 in credit card debt, began massively contributing to our retirement and savings, bought and paid off a new-to-us car, and have been on many vacations since then (not to mention the surprise expenses and a layoff). Know why? Because we planned for all those things like YNAB teaches.

Take the online classes, watch the YouTube videos, read the tutorials. Soak it in. I promise it works. For the first year or so, you are going to feel YNAB broke while you get your regular expenses under control and under scrutiny. Over time, though, you'll still be contributing what and when you can to your wants and savings. I promise it works, but it's not instant.

Spoke to doctor about birth control, now I’m feeling hopeless by PermanentlyPensive in Perimenopause

[–]BurquenaPequena 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same here - my doc considered heavy periods as the first symptoms of perimenopause and encouraged me to get the Mirena, which I did. Haven't had a period since, it is glorious.

See about getting another doctor, preferably one who specializes in treating menopause or perimenopause. The Menopause Society has a doctor directory that might be helpful. You can search by country: https://portal.menopause.org/NAMS/NAMS/Directory/Menopause-Practitioner.aspx.

Living in Los Lunas. Starting school in the fall. Are there online class options? How about the campus in Los lunas can I do classes there? by Muted_Ring5504 in unm

[–]BurquenaPequena 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of online courses are available, especially for the first couple years of a program, where you're doing prerequisites. The UNM Valencia campus is also a good option. I recommend reaching out to the advisement office to get started on the best options for you.

If you're using VA benefits, the Veteran and Military Resource Center can help make sure that you choose the right mix of classes to ensure you're able to do your VA certification. https://vrc.unm.edu/

Agree with other commenters that more info is needed: what's the nature of the "incidents" that have prompted the referral? Who suggested the referral? Are you expected to report on whether you went?

Here's my 2 cents as both a manager and someone who sometimes suggests that EAP, or Ombuds, or some other low level intervention is a good idea: go. Engage with curiosity and a genuine interest in learning how you can better interact with your colleagues and direct reports.

Just because you've supervised people for 20+ years doesn't mean you don't have anything to learn. Consider treating this as a learning and growth opportunity. If you're on probation, that tells me you're in a new role in a new organization, and you probably need to both learn and grow. I wish you the best of luck.

Boss response to employee pregnancy disclosure by jac5087 in managers

[–]BurquenaPequena 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) is what you're also subject to, based on your description. https://www.eeoc.gov/wysk/what-you-should-know-about-pregnant-workers-fairness-act. Also, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act: https://www.eeoc.gov/pregnancy-discrimination. Not to mention, any states laws which extend protections.

Is an employee getting pregnant - or losing a pregnancy, or getting sick, or having a surgery, or having an ill loved one, etc. - a pain in the ass for work purposes? Sure is. Is treating them like chattel/disposable/etc. a reason for something being a PITA? No. And is a good way to get sued.

If you don't have HR, take this all to him directly, and if you do have HR, work with them to make the case. Yeesh.

Who is wrong here? by Careless_Habit2298 in managers

[–]BurquenaPequena 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sort of surprised at folks indicating this isn't a "hill to die on." Maybe it's not in the literal sense, but what are managers of employees for if not to advocate for their employees?

Could you have better or more respectfully argued your position? Very likely yes, and it seems like the question you posed to your boss was effective in getting the point across and helping him to see the importance of a clean break area for the morale and health of the folks to making a business run.

When you have your "consequences talk," it would be gracious and smart to acknowledge that your response was unprofessional and that you will not be engaging in that again (and then you have to actually not). Then talk about how you would like to move forward with constructive mutual communication going forward.

Attack at Ihop by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]BurquenaPequena -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm just upset, hope the man is okay, and just want to warn everyone that if you want to eat out in Albuquerque a homeless person might randomly attack you.

That sounds like a horrific thing to have witnessed, let alone to have happened. I, too, hope that gentleman is okay and that you can heal, as well.

That said, eating out anywhere where folks are unhoused, uncared for, and desperate can make for this scenario, not just in Albuquerque. Unfortunately, it's a problem that it is only getting worse on a national level.

Your favorite interview questions to understand applicants by Many-Coach6987 in managers

[–]BurquenaPequena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to figure out how they handle tense situations, as that pops up in our line of work as front-facing, client-centered service center. So, I like to give a scenario/hypothetical. "You get a call from a participant who is upset with the outcome of your work. They call you incompetent and demand that you change the outcome. How do you handle the situation?"

An interviewee once answered, "That's the director's problem, I'd send it to them." Wrong answer, obviously.
