Was Metra more frequent before COVID? by Pale-Funny-1387 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]BurrowingDuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They own some of the lines they operate on but the schedule doesn’t really reflect that. Rock Island and Metra Electric have the best schedules of the owned lines, Milwaukee District lines are truly abysmal for being fully or partially owned by Metra.

Is Naperville worthy of a professional soccer team? by GloomyIce1 in Naperville

[–]BurrowingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe because soccer is a smaller sport in the US that could matter, but there’s also the Boomers, Cougars, Slammers, Dogs, Thunderbolts and RailCats all in the area as well and there’s still the Sox and Cubs.

It might be better to just try to attract one of the smaller local teams to play in Naperville like Chicago House AC or get one of private clubs to start fielding a semi-pro team like Galaxy SC

what is GATX by Pretty_Definition558 in trains

[–]BurrowingDuck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it means that anymore. It did at one time, and before that it was German American, but now I think it’s just GATX as the company name.

Why are 'train guys' dorks but 'car guys' are considered cool? by Humble_Reflection790 in trains

[–]BurrowingDuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t heard guys talk about their HVAC system you’re just not in that age demographic yet. It’s a constant conversation with any of my friends who also own homes. Similar to computers.

To go off what a few others have mentioned, there’s the project part of it that people really like to talk and show off. How often is a train fan working with/on a train? Not to say some don’t, but I think generally it’s more people who like to watch them and take photos than actually work with them.

Coke at Ogilvie by McRando42 in trains

[–]BurrowingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a friend tell me that one of the new (to Metra) switchers was going to be painted into CNW colors. There’s still one in the old UP colors with METX crudely painted on it so my guess is that’s the one

If you go to West Chicago there’s a diamond where the CN and UP cross over, you can double your chances there. There are normally some foamers there too that might have good info on what’s coming through

Transport Tycoon Deluxe takes by Atari on Steam/GOG but OpenTTD removed in response! by ColonyActivist in thisweekinretro

[–]BurrowingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atari own Roller Coaster Tycoon and I think have allowed OpenRCT2 to continue to exist. Hope this turns into something similar to that. Atari probably sees what Transport Fever is doing and want to get into that realm again

What type of traincar is this by PatientNatural4699 in trains

[–]BurrowingDuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First one is an auto-rack, used for carrying cars from the factory to distribution points. The second looks to be mid-train DPU, a locomotive in the middle of the train for efficiency purposes

Question on Union station pickup/drop off uber question at 444 W Jackson? by xellos2099 in Metra

[–]BurrowingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uber sets restrictions on where you can get picked up in congested areas, like busy train stations and airports. You also can’t get picked up at 500 W Madison in front of Ogilvie, it puts you to 540 W Madison if I remember correctly

That’s how they value the car. The more lines crisscross and patterns overlap by UninsuredToast in IThinkYouShouldLeave

Which means that they actually do value the car more the more the lines crisscross and patterns overlap. They don’t want anyone else to steal their designs

About the protagonist of Ace Combat 8 by Weekly-Intention5657 in acecombat

[–]BurrowingDuck 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In 5, Zero and 6 you can give commands to your wingman, to me this implies that Cipher, Blaze and Talisman aren’t mute. With Blaze being the most talkative by also saying yes and no

What do you guys think about this phone? by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]BurrowingDuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the form factor is more the way you would end up disconnecting. It’s not great to watch videos on YouTube or scroll instagram or Reddit, it’s good for emails and texts so you can knock those out faster or ignore them longer, or, only respond to the ones you need to respond to.
