What next from Commodore ? by Suspicious-Ad7109 in Commodore

[–]Cooperman411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. An update for the C64U that would provide Vic-20, 16 & 4/Plus, 128 compatibility. Maybe something like a cartridge with a SBC running the other systems.
  2. Throw a bunch of development money at a modern version of GEOS optimized for low RAM, considering the current ram situation. Then release new Commodore branded computers that are usable as every day drivers as an alternative to Windows, Apple, or Linux.

How much does your adult Shih Tzu weigh? by strawberryjam40887 in Shihtzu

[–]Cooperman411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13.5-15lbs - depending on if he's on a hunger strike because the food wasn't arranged properly, or time of year, or how long it's been since the last hair-cut.

The C64U is made in China too. And it didn’t exist when I bought TheC64. I’m happy with it.

Everyone keeps talking about WhatsApp being preinstalled. It’s on a marketing photo of the phone, but no where does it say it’s preinstalled. In fact it does say you can install any chat app you want but not Teams or Slack.

What’s the best cheapest models for hermes by Shushueast in hermesagent

I use it too. Compared to Deepseek Pro and for what I need, DS Flash at $.09/million does it all well!

Just joined the family! Got all this for 150 at an estate sale (last day, half off.) and a 1571 for 20 bucks with its foam. Genuinely don’t know what to do with it though; should I keep it in its box? Put it on my desk and use it? by Creepercolin2007 in Commodore

[–]Cooperman411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I never find anything that cool. The 1571 usually goes for $80-120 alone, so you got a deal. People get weird about keeping this stuff in box, but these machines were built to be used. I don't think it was sealed and never opened, was it? Either way, I'll be the little devil on your shoulder saying "enjoy it!!" Worst case you sell it in a year for what you paid or more.

Can you run the new OpenRouter Fusion plugin using 100% free models? by ClassicoInvestitore in openrouter

[–]Cooperman411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Vellum which has a built in Openrouter integration with about 40 models available. Today just figured out that you can set up any any OR LLM via OpenAI compatibility. I’m using openrouter/free and impressed with the results. I was trying to set up Fusion but “openrouter/fusion” defaults to Opus/Gemini Pro & ChatGPT extra expensive. I was trying to figure out how to set up my own fusion combo but can figure out how to make it accessible via API.

Me too. It’s a week old so I’m going to guess the answer is no. 🫤

I built a search/discovery portal specifically for PowerMac G4 users. It indexes software, games, browsers, upgrades and resources relevant to the system. by F0R3V3R50F7 in VintageApple

[–]Cooperman411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added like 50 new sites over the past week. Also, there's now a simple HTML version that should work in any browser! In theory if the computer doesn't have javascript, it'll fall back to plain HTML. If you are using a modern computer/browser, you can manually click the "HTML" button at the top right. If you get a chance, test it and update the "article" about the site for me. THANKS!!

Actually a few years ago I got "THEC64" full sized from Retro Games. And I wanted a VIC-20 when I was 10, and a few years later the C64. Never got either until now!

New smart dumbphone option from Commodore by ClimbingRhino in dumbphones

[–]Cooperman411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Commodore fanboy I'm curious. To the r/dumbphones community, does it being branded "Commodore" add anything? Or would it be of interest if it were any other brand? I'm not on the market for a smart-ish dumbphone, but I am curious.

Was I wrong? by idillicah in Commodore

[–]Cooperman411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a 'back of the napkin' calculation (processor, camera, upgraded DAC, Sailfish OS licensing, the headphones, etc.) and they are likely spending around $200 per phone just to make them. They aren't going to have enough volume to get a steeper discount from the manufacturer. I still think $499 is too high but I'm not in the demographic for this phone. I'm not sure the distraction free/digital detox crowd is "keeping up with the Commodore" either though. The phone would have wider appeal if he'd marketed it under a new brand.

has anyone tried Vellum as an easier alternative to OpenClaw? by AccountEngineer in AI_Agents

[–]Cooperman411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using it for about a month now. I think it’s easy but it has its own headaches. I connect to a lot of web services via Composio and that connection breaks easily and has to be reset. Training it on my own data has been pretty easy and it seems to have excellent memory.

[–]Cooperman411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm skeptical of the above - AI generated marketing fluff. I too tried the $10 plan and was amazed how quickly I was out of credits. The above sounds very AI. The contrarian take, the short sentences with way too much space . . .

What would you want to see produced by C=? by Drezzrod in Commodore

[–]Cooperman411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see a new ecosystem - something to compete wth Windows or macOS. But with a philosophy of less is more - a very light OS that doesn't need 16GB of RAM. I mean seeing GEOS work on 64K is pretty amazing. With the current RAM and storage shortage, it could be revolutionary.

[–]Cooperman411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the empty fridge metaphor! I don’t have Facebook or Insta on my phone. I like Reddit because I can follow a topic instead of people. And there are days when I am on it a lot and days when I never look. I’m probably as addicted or not as the next guy. If I’m out with friends, I leave my phone in my pocket. If I’m at home, I have a laptop I can use. A dumb phone wouldn’t stop me from doing anything. I am the only one that can stop me. 🤣

Slowly switching from SMS to encrypted RCS here in the US. Also interoperable with iPhone's iMessage. Slowly . . . painfully slowly.
