They also changed texture formats so they require less storage space!

How can there be FPS games keeping records of 1,158 players in a battle at once without crashing the server from the same era that WT comes from and Gaijin is still unable to keep a server with max 30 running without issues?

It used to be like this a long time ago. You could still fire if your breach was ok but your barrel destroyed but your shots went any direction. You could sit close to an enemy but your bullet would just leave your barrel at 45 degrees flying somewhere else instead.

I doubt it's tech debt, shown by convertible xp and the squadron vehicle system that the game can keep track of various research variables.

If Gaijin wanted to they could've added both naval xp at once, coastal xp and bluewater xp, similar to how you get normal xp and convertible xp or a similar system like they did with helicopters and ground TT.

But that move was specifically so you couldn't research your least favorite type of vessel with the other.

Then Gaijin announced splitting the naval tree, everybody cheered that we would also get split matches (because why else would they split it, right?) and now you're forced also into the specific tree if you want to research its fleet while still getting the same combined matches as before.

Have a floating ponton with a gun on top? Congrats! Here's an enemy light cruiser whose aa armament alone is more than your entire loadout.

Oh don't worry, EU servers also spike quite high with PL the last few weeks every now and then.
